That's how he ended up in Hateno staring down a soon to be demolished disaster. While there wasn't anywhere available to rent, the leader of the construction crew in charge of knocking it down, Bolson, assured Kaladin that the house was the next best thing. For fifty thousand rupees.
"Are you sure there isn't a way I could rent it? It'd only be for a few weeks. Please?" Kaladin asked.
"You know what kid? I think I like you. I remember being your age and wanting things I couldn't afford. I'll let you buy it from me for a thousand rupees, and twenty-five trees worth of wood. I'll need a lot to fix this place up." Bolson said while appraising the building.
Kaladin agreed, and managed to fell a small forest within a few hours. It was hard work, but with the help of his magic pockets and Syl, Kaladin had the required wood. The rupees were harder, but he'd found enough in chests, along with gems that a few traders were willing to buy, and gave it all to Bolson.
Bolson and his crew started work on the house. He said to come back in a few days. According to Bolson, while the base was intact, it needed a "massive overhaul" inside to be liveable. Kaladin peeked inside before he left, and it really didn't look that bad. Guess he wasn't meant for construction work.
He trekked up to a region in the north that everyone called Eldin. A few miles past a stable at the base of the area's massive mountain, Kaladin was roasting in his own skin. He'd never experienced heat like that before. And he really didn't want to start. So he decided to deal with the Eldin beast later. Surely it wasn't giving the Gorons any trouble that was as life threatening.
Instead Kaladin walked to Rito village. It was cold and far, but he stuck to the road and eventually made it there.
The chicken people had startled Kaladin for a moment. Hyrule sure had a lot of animal-like races. It turned out that they talked like normal, and walked on two feet. He spoke to some and everyone directed Kaladin to the top platform of the town. The town elder, named Kaneli, resided there. He had to walk the whole way since his stormlight had run out again. At the top platform he walked into the scene of an owl-like person sitting on a chair.
"Oh, you're a Hylian. I wonder if you're related to that one great hero, Link?" Kaneli asked.
Kaneli didn't know who Kaladin was, and didn't seem to be expecting Link either. He was tired of explaining himself so he said,"Uh…Sure. Impa sent me to help you regain control of your divine beast."
"It's been terrorizing us for weeks."
"That's awful, has it hurt anyone?"
Kaneli leaned in and said,"No, but it flies in circles and looks menacing. I swear it's going to swoop down and kill us all some day."
Kaladin held in a sigh. He was starting to notice a pattern. Everybody needed help on this random errand or that. If everybody really was so helpless, and determined to rely on the hero, maybe Link had left of his own accord, and was hiding out somewhere. Except that didn't explain his own appearance on Hyrule. It didn't matter though, since he was stuck anyway. Leave it to his rotten luck to send him here when the perpendiculars were closed off. Though he was willing to admit that as far as places to get stranded indefinitely went, Hyrule was pretty good.
"Okay then. Is there any way I can help with that?"
"You could go talk to Teba, our people's greatest warrior. He and Harth tried to enter the beast but it didn't go well. Teba doesn't understand that only champions can enter divine beasts, and I fear he plans to face Vah Medoh alone. I'm not sure where to find him though. His wife, Saki might know where he's at. They live next door."
Kaladin thanked him, and went next door. None of the Rito had doors, so Kaladin waved at Saki from outside, and she gestured for him to enter.
"You must be Kaladin. Forgive me, but I overheard you talking to the village elder. You're searching for my husband, yes?"
Kaladin nodded.
"He's at the flight range, where our warriors train. It's a straight shot from Ravali's landing, so named in honor of our champion all those years ago."
After exchanging some more pleasantries, Kaladin walked down to trade a few more spirit orbs for stormlight. He'd actually completed quite a few shrines after visiting Kakariko village, but he didn't want to waste stormlight. It was so hard to get here on Hyrule. He tried to fly over to the practice range, after getting directions from a nearby Rito, but he got too cold, and came back. In the tailor's shop he begrudgingly purchased some warmer clothing. And began the walk back up the stairs.
