Kaladin walked back up a flight or two of stairs to the landing. It was a perfect launch point to get to the other side of the Rito canyon, like Saki had said.

As he was about to take off, Zelda's voice popped into his head. "You're standing on a new landing in Rito village, right?"

Kaladin affirmed, and sat down for a long scholarly talk on wood grain in Hyrule or Rito construction processes. One time she'd given him a lecture on trees, so he wouldn't have been surprised. Zelda was wonderful, but she had the ability to get excited about pretty much anything.

Instead she surprised him by saying,"The landing wasn't there when I last visited the Rito. And that symbol on the ground looks sort of like Ravali. I wonder if this was his people's way of commemorating him."

"One of the Rito mentioned Ravali, and did say that the landing was named after him. Who was he?"

"He was the Rito's champion. I've never met a more conceited person. He was always giving Link a hard time about something, though Link bore it in his quiet, commanding way. I didn't particularly like him."

"I'll bet."

"But despite that, I think he was the perfect person for the job. He had a right to brag when it came to his piloting skills. And I doubt he would have helped if he hadn't thought something of the champions that had already been chosen. I get the sense that his challenging, stuck up attitude was his way of taking care of the team. It's too bad, really, his death."

"Seems like it's even more of a shame that the Rito don't really talk about him. The Zora practically worship Mipha."

"If I know anything about the Gerudo, I'm sure that they do worship their champion."

"Since we're on the topic of champions" he trailed off, trying to figure out how to ask his question. Finally, he just went for it, and said,"What was Link like?"

There was a moment of silence.

"He was wonderful. With a sword. He was appointed my protector, and I despised him. Link was so calm and quiet, and his fate as the hero was already laid out. He could do what needed to be done. I couldn't. My powers laid dormant until…Anyway, he was badly injured in the battle for fort Hateno. My powers activated in time to defeat the last of the guardians attacking us, but it was too late for Link. That's why I thought he was in the shrine of resurrection. He was supposed to be healed by then. Instead, you were there. I worry about Link, but your presence has been refreshing. I'm sure you'll complete Link's final quest with honor."

"Zelda, thank you for sticking with me these last few days. I know it couldn't have been easy, but I wouldn't have made it off of the plateau without your help. I hope that Link will turn up but until he does, I'm glad that I can help your land. It's nice to feel needed again."

He had wanted to tell her more, about his own struggles on Roshar, but he could tell that the connection was cut even before he opened his mouth and said,"Zelda?"
