Before Kaladin tackled Ganon, he decided to visit Heshu. He had no idea if he'd be able to after the coming battle. So he teleported to woodland stable and started up a meandering trail.
Just outside of the lost forest, there was a sheikah tower. Kaladin flew up to the top, dodging small magic balls of electricity along the way. They were fired by some weird monsters who had a creepy laugh. Up top, he activated the tower, and turned to lash himself towards the forest. Instead he was met with a wall. That sort of looked like a skull. Syl didn't bother commenting, but was as shaken as him. Kaladin shivered, but climbed down the tower the hard way. He couldn't help but wonder who had caused the rock to appear there. It certainly wasn't natural.
The two walked along the path below into the forest. It started raining. As soon as they entered the forest proper something changed. And it didn't feel particularly good.
"What is this place?" Kaladin said while turning around to examine the area. A thick mist shrouded everything. A torch stood in the open.
Syl said,"Who knows? Hey, it's easier to see by the torch. It must burn off the mist. I wonder who lit it?"
Kaladin and Syl walked over and stared at the way that the torch seemed to lean one direction without any wind. Kaladin looked at Syl and they silently agreed to explore. Syl gestured and the two walked northeast. Five minutes later, they were back at the same torch.
"Something isn't right," Syl said. She was sitting on his shoulder now, thinking.
"I bet we just got lost." Kaladin looked around, and he could see more trees to the northwest. He gestured and said,"The main forest is that way."
Kaladin and Syl walked the way Kaladin had pointed, but soon ended up at the torch, again.
"Maybe we need to be more logical about this. Why don't we follow the flame?"
"That makes a weird amount of sense. I guess that's Hyrule for you."
Kaladin and Syl followed the torches' flame until they came to a ruined wall. Two smaller, portable torches leaned up against it, and a standing torch was nearby.
"So I guess I'll just take one and light it?" Syl shrugged, and Kaladin lit it. The fire did seem to lean one way. To the south. Directions were funny in the lost woods. Hopefully a hundred years wouldn't have passed while he was inside, like in a story he'd heard once.
Kaladin and Syl filled the torch. Syl hovered close to his shoulder. The place was starting to get to him too. There were occasional noises that didn't sound entirely human.
"I think some of these trees have faces," Syl said, while scooting closer.
Kaladin said,"They're only trees." Except one of the trees with a face seemed to contort its eye hole for a moment. "That one winked, didn't it?"
Syl nodded.
Kaladin brought the torch closer and saw something in its mouth. "And it has a treasure chest in its mouth."
Kaladin leaned forward to investigate, and Syl said something that was lost on the wind. He turned back, but there was nothing other than Syl. Opening the chest while holding a torch was challenging, but Kaladin managed. Inside was a gold rupee. He held it up to Syl, who sighed with relief. He would've teased her, but both of them were shaking. The quicker they left the forest, the better.
"I wonder who hid that there. I bet they couldn't find it later," Kaladin said.
"Maybe that was the point. Maybe it was cursed," Syl's smile gave away that she was joking, but Kaladin replaced the rupee anyway. He wasn't superstitious, but Hyrule seemed like the right kind of place for a few hideous curses on buried treasure. Better safe than sorry.
