Author's Note: This story and characters aren't mine. I thought it would be fun if I did a retelling. I did find another retelling, but in my opinion, it was two short, and I was left wanting more, kinda like the game itself. So I'll start with this, and, depending on my mood, I'll make a series of Hat Kid and her friends just chilling afterwards, but for now, let's start this retelling.

Dear Diary,

I can't believe my luck. As you probably know, I was travelling the universe, collecting the scattered Time Pieces across the worlds. All so I could get home. But honestly, it's worth it. I have gotten all 40 Time Pieces, and now, all that's left is to head home.

The day started out normally. I woke up to that really annoying alarm (I should really get it changed), getting my hat, and I went to say hi to Rumbi while deciding to go check how far I am. According to the map, I was only five light-years away. That is great. I only have little time left before heading home. I was feeling confident.

Unfortunately, no good thing lasts forever. I heard a knock on the glass door. I went to check there, only to find… a weird looking man. For one, he is incredibly big, about twice my size. He had an apron and blue chef's uniform, a weird beard, no hair, and a weird accent.

"What's this, flying boats," he said, "All boats need to pay toll in Mafia Town, even in space. Mafia come in to collect."

I have no idea what this guy wanted, or why he is speaking in the first person, but I just got every Time piece and I don't have the patience right now. Plus, I didn't have a lot of money. He tried to open the door, but I quickly closed it before he could open it, locking the door.

It seemed like that would be the end, but then this guy made the stupidest decision, and punched the glass door, breaking it. The vacuum of space sucked me and him out of the ship, and sent hurtling to the planet below.

If that was not enough, the force was enough to open the lock to the vault. The vault that keeps all of the Time Pieces. It opened up, and all the Time Pieces came flying out of the vault, all falling to different places on the planet.

Dang it, I was this close.

You may think that this is it for me, but thankfully, I always land on my feet. I landed in a dark and messy alleyway. That, and I landed on a soft surface. There, I saw… the weirdest town ever.

It was brightly lit, and sunny, but it was very poorly made. There were buildings on hills that looked off, construction places, graffiti everywhere, and now, multiple of those same bald headed guys that knocked me off.

"Oh dear, where am I," I asked.

I decided to wander around to get a grasp on my surroundings. Now, a good thing about being so small is that you are more agile. So, I was able to jump, climb, and run through many areas. So, getting around was no problem. There was one problem. Everyone in this town is so mean. One of them tricked me into playing a game of patty-cake before pushing me off the ledge, and another made me trip when I was walking around.

Later, I was face to face with one of those Mafia guys (That's what they call themselves, so might as well). But, before he could try to attack me, another Mafia fell on him. Then, someone landed triumphantly on them. She was a red hooded girl with a blond moustache (weird I know), and a red cape.

She looked at me, but then ran.

"Hey, wait," I said, as I decided to follow her.

She was just as agile and quick as me, but unlike me, she seemed to know the place inside and out. Every time I got close, she would just run. Eventually, she stopped at a rope that went all the way up a bell tower, and called me.

"Hey you, down there, don't think I didn't see you stalking me," she said, "Us kids should stick together, not stalk one another. I mean, Mafia Town can be a really dangerous place. So what do you say, want to join my little rebellion?"

'So this place was called Mafia Town,' I thought to myself, 'Sounds very friendly.'

A lot of people feel like they were mean, so of course they're part of the freaking mafia. Uh, mafia of what exactly… Eh, I'll figure it out soon enough I guess. But I'm to busy right now to join a rebellion.

"Oh, by the way, did you have anything to do with the junk falling from the sky," she asked.

I looked at her. Junk that fell from the sky. That must be the Time Pieces. I nodded yes.

"Yeah, yikes, looks like you have a lot of cleaning up to do," she said.

'Ugh, don't remind me,' I thought to myself.

"Tell you what, come up here, and I'll tell you where one of your junk landed," she said.

"Really," I asked, "Ok."

I went up to the bell tower with a platform lift by a crane.

"Follow me, rebel squad," she said.

'Not a rebel,' I thought

I followed her nonetheless through the bright albeit messed up Mafia Town. We ended up stopping near a broken bridge.

"Hey, I think one of your junk pieces fell and smashed into the market's fountain. Messed it up real good," she said, "When going over there, just avoid making eye contact with the Mafia and you'll be fine. Good luck, fellow rebel!"

"Thanks," I said.

Although that may seem half-hearted, I haven't had human interactions for a while. I don't talk as much as I write. After bidding farewell, she went away to… somewhere, I don't know.

I headed over to the fountain, jumping over the bridge, and reaching the fountain.

Unfortunately, one of the Mafia members had already grabbed it. I decided to reason with him.

"Hey sir, you have my Time Piece, can I have it back," I asked.

"So that's what sparkly object is called, Time Piece," he said, "Sorry kid, but Mafia find it first. This will make a great gift to the boss."

"No, give it back," I said, as I tried to grab it. However, he blocked me with an umbrella. He laughed in my face, while looking at the Time Piece happily.

"I said, give…it…back," I exclaimed, as I grabbed his umbrella, and pointed it at him.

He started running away, as I tried to hit it at him. I eventually caught up with him, and he… I don't know what actually happened, but he dropped the Time Piece.

"Yeah, that's right, down with the Mafia," I exclaimed, just for fun as I held my umbrella in victory.

I then grabbed the Time Piece. A handy thing about it is that they can teleport you anywhere. I headed to the spaceship, where it was shut down due to no Time pieces (you know, in retrospect, that's a dumb feature). I put the Time Piece into the ship's vault, and it started up again, not too much that it has fuel to fly, but enough to access the ship's teleporter in the Kitchen to head back into Mafia Town.

Thank god, cause something tells me that won't be the last time I need to visit that place.

Author's Note: I hope you enjoy this new fanfic. I will mainly tell the main game's story (with the DLC included) but just with a few changes to the story. See you then.
