Chapter 1: Feeling Lucky and in love
A few days after new years
After spending a few days, including Christmas, in Paris, Grissom and Hank headed to Vegas with Sara so he could spend the next week, when she wasn't working, with her, and to visit with the team, which had been long overdue.
Now it was the morning of the day where they had to say goodbye again, and he was finishing up making breakfast when he felt her arms wrap around him from behind.
He smiled as he folded the omelet with his spatula. "Morning, dear."
She kissed his bare shoulder and whispered against his skin. "Morning babe, I was hoping to wake up in your arms."
He slid the spatula under the omelet so he could put it on a plate before putting the plate on a breakfast tray, then he turned the stove off and turned around so he could cup his wife's cheek. "I'm sorry, honey, but I wanted to make you breakfast."
She smiled with love in her eyes. "That's sweet."
They leaned toward each other so they could share a sweet kiss before pulling back, then she sighed.
He looked concerned as he asked. "You ok?"
She nodded while bringing him into her arms so she could hug him, needing to be close to him right now. "Yeah, I was just getting use to this the last two weeks."
He sighed in return while he ran his hand up and down her back. "I know, me too." There was a slight pause as they enjoyed the closeness before he said her name softly. "Sara..."
But she cuts him off, knowing what he was going to say next. "It's ok Griss, we already talked about this on Christmas, we'll be fine."
Through the years of hearing her say the word 'fine' when most of the time she really wasn't, made him more alert, so he pulls back, and this time cups her cheek while looking into her eyes so he could 'read' her as he asked. "You sure, because we can keep..."
She cuts him off again with a smile. "Yes, I'm sure." She does one more sigh. "I was just having a moment."
Once again, like on Christmas Day, he didn't see any doubts in her eyes, so he nodded with a smile as he ran his thumb up and down her cheek. "Ok, but you know, if..."
She movers her finger to his lips to silence him as she leaned closer. "I know we can talk about it, but right now, I don't want to do much talking. I just want to spend whatever time we have left in our own world in each other's arms."
Whatever he was going to say next was cut off when her lips connected with his, which their kisses quickly became more passionate as her hand slid up and down his back, getting closer to the waistband of his boxers each time her hand went down.
A few moments later, when they needed air, he whispered. "If your hand goes any lower, I might not make it to the bed."
As much as she wanted him right then and there, she knew it wouldn't be good for him, and she didn't want him with a hurt back or limping before getting on a plane, so she reluctantly pulled back from him and lead him to the bedroom, where normally they would go slow and savior each second, but that wasn't the case this time.
They shared one more passionate kiss before she pulled back from him, got off of him and cuddled to his side, both breathing hard.
He had enough energy left to kiss her forehead and lay back down while wrapping his arm around her shoulders.
"Well, that was..."
He trailed off as he was still trying to catch his breath while she smiled shyly, knowing she was the one in control in that heated moment and she couldn't slow them down, even if she wanted too.
"Sorry."
He chuckled before kissing her head before replying again. "Oh, I'm not complaining one bit, it was just different than usual." He then cupped her cheek and moved back so they could look into each other's eyes as he finished with a smile. "And not in a bad way, either."
She smiled with a nod while he leaned forward to give her a kiss, but before their lips could connect, they hear a dog whining and scratching at the door.
They do end up kissing, but more softly than they had planned before pulling back, then he turned his head towards the closed door. "We'll be out in a minute Hank."
He turns his head to look at her and they both sigh while she wrapped her arms around his neck. "Time to get back into the real world, huh?"
Grissom gives her a look of love and comfort. "I'm afraid so, so while I let Hank out in the back yard, you can take your shower then I'll take mine before we go out and get breakfast to go. Then I think we should head to the park so Hank can run around for a bit before we go to the airport."
"Sounds like a plan." Then she shyly smiled again. "And I'm sorry about breakfast, what you did was sweet. I guess I just wasn't in the mood for food."
He smirked. "Clearly not." As her embarrassment deepened, he looked at her with love in his eyes. "Honey, you have nothing to be embarrassed about." He then finished with a little pride in his tone. "I mean I should take it as a good sign that my wife still wants me, right?"
Sara's look becomes serious as she cups his cheek. "And that won't ever change."
She then brings him down while she moves up so they could meet in the middle and share a kiss, which started to turn passionate, but they both sighed, knowing they couldn't finish what they start, especially the way they would want this time around, so they pulled back, gave each other comforting/apologetic looks before he reluctantly moved from her so she can get out of bed, which once Sara did, she heads for her robe that she had discarded on the floor earlier, puts it on and ties it while turning to her husband, who had been watching her with a smile on his face as his head was on the palm of his hand.
She smiled shyly as she moved some hair behind her ear."What?"
He shakes his head with a wider smile and sparkle in his eyes. "Only that you are so beautiful. I can't help but admire my wife while thinking how lucky I am. I know while we said we are ok with our current situation, I know it also hasn't been easy, especially on you when you have to get through a hard case and want me near." He then sighed before finishing. "I just hope you know how much I love you, want to be there for you on those days, and how much I want this to work between us."
She walked to his side of the bed and cupped his cheek with love in her eyes. "I know all of that, and we will make this work because I'm not giving you...us, up without a fight. I know how it feels to be without you and I can't go through that again. If and/or when we feel we have to change our situation I have faith that we'll make the right decision."
Seeing the confidence and determination in her eyes made him feel that as well, so he nodded with a smile. "I do too. I love you."
"I love you too." She leans towards him so they could share a soft kiss, then after pulling back, she speaks again. "As much as I would love to crawl back in bed with you, we really do need to face the world, our dog is getting very impatient."
They could hear the continued scratching at the door and the whining, which was getting louder.
"Yes, dear." She moved towards her dresser to get some clothes while he gets out of bed, grabs his boxers and slips them on before heading towards the door, but stopped when he felt eyes on him, so he turned to see his wife looking at him with a smile, so he raised an eyebrow in question before she replied. "Now it's my turn to admire my husband while thinking how lucky I am."
He just chuckles and shakes his head while he turns back to the door and opens it, talking/apologizing to Hank while walking them towards the back door.
Sara stood there for a moment and sighed in content, no it hadn't been easy spending so much time apart from him, but sharing these moments with him were worth it, and right now, if all she got was moments here and there for the time being, then she'll take it because she rather have them sometimes than none at all, and she really did believe they'll be even stronger once they are together for good without the separations in between.
Later that afternoon
As much as they wished they could stop time, they couldn't, so a few hours past noon, they were at the airport, Grissom had just finished getting the tickets while Sara was tearfully saying goodbye to Hank.
Once Grissom stopped next to them and watched her, his heart was breaking for her, so he cleared his throat before asking. "Honey, you want to keep Hank with you?"
When this situation appeared in their lives, they both agreed that Hank would stay with him because he had the more flexible schedule that if he needed to make a quick trip home or the dog sitters, he could on his scheduled break time, plus he comes home every night, whereas sometimes Sara wouldn't see the inside of their home in two, and every so often, three days.
There was a short pause while Sara really thought about his offer, and even though it was very tempting, so she didn't have to come home to an empty apartment, especially on those hard cases, eventually though she shook her head with a sigh. "No, he should stay with you."
He replied softly. "Ok."
She turned her attention back to Hank, giving him a hug and speaking to him. "Ok, you have to go with daddy now, and I'll see you soon, hopefully in a few weeks, but we'll see. I love you, boy."
Hank gave her some 'kisses' while wagging his tail lightly, because while happy for the attention, he felt something was going on since it wasn't the first time for this scene, plus he could sense the sadness in his both of his 'parents'.
Sara finally stands up and gets right into her husband's arms. "I love you too, Griss. I'm going to miss you."
He kissed the side if her head and whispered in return. "And I love and will miss you. Be safe out in the field and I'll call when we land."
"Ok."
They pull back in each other's arms, and after a short pause, they shared a kiss, which was a pretty passionate one, considering where they were, but was still mindful that they were in public.
Doing something like this still felt new to them, and not just because they were private people in general but a lot of that still had to do with the fact that they kept their relationship secret for two years, even though it has been over a year since their relationship has been out in the open.
After they finally pulled back, they kept their eyes closed and placed their foreheads together, whispering they love each other one more time, then after pulling back, he cupped her cheek with a smile and she smiled in return, reassuring each other everything will be ok.
A few minutes later, he removed his hand with a sigh, both knowing it was time for him to leave, but they did share one more kiss before he turned with Hank and started walking them towards the gate, where they had a big dog carrier waiting so they could board the plane and head back to Paris.
AN: Thanks for reading, and please review. Once again, sorry for the wait, but real life has a way of getting in the way. Like I said up top, I'm not planning this story to be long, but a third story in this universe is possible. Hope you are ready for this one, enjoy the rest of your weekend/week.
