This is an idea written out after I read till chapter 70, it should play in the far future.
The characters might be misinterpreted, most likely Nanao because i honestly have a hard time guessing what's really going on in his mind. This is purely written out to be a NanaxNanao/Naonana fanfic, because I don't want Nana to give up on Nanao, -no matter what- and I still feel touched of her determination to do anything she possibly can to make things right again. So this story is mostly centered around them and i kind of want to develop their relationship into something more further on.
I just have this few fantasies i want to get out of my head, So this might just be a fanfic for the other few Naonana shippers out there.
I'm not that much of a writer though and english is not my native language, so some things may sound weird. Anyway if you can, have fun~
Chapter 1
In repetetive intervals a rain drop would leak through from the ceiling. It was moist and the air in her cell had an musty odor to it, a slight shift of her weak limbs jangled some rusty but sturdy chains. Outside the small windows layered with grids, light would occasionally fall inside and then disappear again due to passing flashlights of soldiers heading out of the facility and search the empty streets at night looking out for any leftover rebels that may have failed to escape.
That's right. The world was in panic, that these so called monsters the enemies of humanity roam free again. She could feel her body grow heavier and more worn by the days that went by but her reassurance grew. Till now there was no commotion and the frustrated dialogues of these men hunting the talented gave her the confirmation that everything has gone well. The councils decisions of what to do with her now are still being debated. After all it was her who brought this breakout into success, drawing the opposite factions attention to herself. Outsmarting them by carrying out two plans simultaneously where the smarter surer one where the army had their nose on was destined to fail, while the other too obvious one succeeded. But there was a price to pay for it to succeed and that would be for her to stay behind. She didn't regret it and she wouldn't, there are things she needed to pay amends to and she had yet to create an opportunity for it to happen. And now that opportunity has come.
With her back against the concrete wall behind her and her arms pulled up by chains she sat on the ground while the days gnawed at her physical limits. Not that this is her first time being imprisoned, not being able to move much but the armys intentions towards her must have changed, since her prison conditions worsened. The cell she was kept in was but a basement and not air-conditioned. Being exposed to the cold each night creeping under her thin layered clothes and being left to starve. The hard ground that started hurting parts on her body where her weight put pressure on, since the chains forced her to be in one place. All conditions that made it clear to her, they won't be planning on keeping her alive for long. And then there was this solitude again, it almost made her go mad before when she experienced it in solitary. It was worse though when she had the awful desire to do something for the Talented… since being wrongly accused and how they suffered gravely in this camp where she couldn't do anything at first. It's kind of comical that she grew to feel so responsible for them, when at the beginning she mercyless hunted them down on behalf of the army.
Her father came to her mind. That's right… Tsuruoka disposed of him because he was fighting for them as well… now that everything is done that could be done she finally has time to think about these things and about her brother she barely knew and then never met again. She never managed to ask Tachibana what he found out about him in the end.
Yet again she realized how much Tsuruoka robbed her off and he continues doing it to Nakajima and will do so after with new innocents. She regrets not being able to find an opening to pull him out of his clutches. She grit her teeth remembering his lifeless eyes, his forced fake expressions and she couldn't help but let the guilt wash all over her again. She can't shake the thought that Tsuruoka caused a casualty again to make it happen. It wasn't right, his face before was kind while he seemed a bit deserted. And at times he had this reserved smile, while lightly scratching his cheek modestly. It wasn't much of an expression he seemed to feel comfortable about doing, but it was a genuine one. Her perception of him was never different, not now, not back then. Yet… she still attempted to kill him. How to approach him? Apologize deeply? Sure, but then what? He probably doesn't even care anymore, he would never ask to be saved.
Being able to save all of the other Talented was the most she could do. Weeks had passed since she assisted them in fleeing, they made contact with an organisation outside, which rebelled against the governments way of doing things. She made sure that Tachibana would take care of anything else that would follow after they left the camp. And Kyouya… knowing his memory issues he will forget about her eventually. She always marveled about this weird connection they had with eachother, but well… not that it matters anymore she thought as weariness slowly caused her eyelids to close.
Without realizing how much time went by her senses awoke slightly when she heard footsteps walking down the stairs slowly. Someone must be coming for her, have they finally reached a conclusion on how to deal with her? The lights were turned on outside the cell, she tried to open her eyes and lift her heavy head but her vision was blurry. She could make out a figure in uniform stopping in front of the bars. Silently it just stared at her for a moment. The persons hand reached for the bars. She tried to muster her strength „W…Who…". The figures head turned to the side then and searched it's pockets. „..Nakajima..san?" She deduced since it's build would fit him. She could hear a clicking sound while her awareness slowly drifted away again with her vision going black. The positions the chains kept her in caused the gravity to draw her upper torso and head to swing forward. Bluntly the underside of a palm stopped the fall and pushed her forehead up again. Too feeble to register what is happening she gasps, then he stretches her head back.
„Here" he verbalizes and lightly squeezes her mouth open, he seemingly tries to give her something. Unexpectedly some viscous liquid runs down her chin, dropping on the floor making him sigh in irritation. The atmosphere around her starts to feel a little limited as if he came down to her level. Then he adjusts her head, „You know Nana-chan, you couldn't be any luckier…" She notices now he makes her swallow some kind of suspension. It tasted like a type of nutrition with a light fruity flavor, probably a cheap meal substitute, it wasn't that good but good enough for someone who was on the verge of starving.
But why? Aren't they gonna get rid of her soon? Suddenly her arms felt really heavy when he opened up the lock to the chains that immobilized them. Her torso sank slowly though thanks to him securing her with a hold on her forearm. He was really close by and she remembered he still had the meal substitute. Like a dying mendicant her shaking hands started scanning him for the sachet on reflex. Impatient he catches her lubberly hands cause they were just uselessly roaming around on his uniform and then places the sachet in them „ It's Here." He distances himself and faces away from her.
„When you're done i need you to come with me." He demands but given her exhausted state as soon as she was done drinking it, she falls curled to the side. It feels weird to being able to change her posture after all these days. He glances over his shoulder and walks towards her.
„Huh… guess the time here did quite a number on you…" He grabs her arm and pulled her up. With a smirk he whispers into her ear.
„Congratulation Nana-chan… you escaped the death penalty." Her eyes jumped slightly, then she quivered trying to reach for his collar meeting his eyes drained.
„Why?.."
„I.. betrayed.. the army plenty.."
I proof no use for them, she continued the sentence in her head. Why would they want to keep me alive?!.. They should already know that torture won't make her give away where the talented are now. The thought of Tsuruoka being ahead of her again horrified her. What is he planning?! Not killing her off more or less means to her that he has some kind of plan where he wants her to play a role in. Did he got hold of talented who can rewrite memories so she can function as his puppet again? Or does he has a way to threaten her into doing it? She can't have that, she doesn't want to pursue innocent people again.
„Why…" despair gathered in her eyes but she squints to make it disappear, she can't afford to show weakness but this endless circle of tragedies just wears her out. Dejected she tries to stand on her own feet but it was no use, she was just swaying. Nanao shifts his arm to behind her back. His hand moved over her bangs, he chuckled coldly with an absent minded expression
„There, there… no need to be that discouraged yet…"
She knew he did that out of spite rather than comfort. The way of how his body has temperature instead of being rigid cold reminds her of how she once nearly took that from him. But despite him looking lifeless, he's warm, he's alive, she claws the fabric of his clothes. She may walk towards her doom but this is also a second chance to draw him out of this well of hatred and most likely guilt as well.
Now that it has come to this-
