Cat Fans

Rudolph carefully glanced around before kneeling down and reaching into his sack. Earlier, he'd managed to catch a few extra fish while getting some supplies for House Wolffort. He had the perfect recipient for one of them: a stray cat that had been hanging around the encampment the past few days.

"Here you go, little guy," he said, plopping the fish down in front of it. "You better eat up, got it?"

The cat sniffed at the fish for a few seconds, then mewed happily and started eating. Rudolph couldn't help grinning as he watched the cat dig in. That was actually kind of cute... Though he doubted anyone would believe him if he said that.

"So, you like cats, huh."

Rudolph jumped and cursed under his breath. So much for no one believing he liked cats... There was Anna behind him, one eyebrow raised and the tiniest hint of a smile on her face.

"Yeah, I do! So what?" he replied defensively.

"There's nothing wrong with that," Anna said, shrugging. After several long seconds of silence, she added a very matter-of-fact, "It's kind of cute."

"Cute," Rudolph repeated flatly.

She nodded once, and Rudolph felt his face heat up. He awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck and glanced away, absently scratching the cat behind the ears when it proceeded to rub on his leg and cry for more fish.

Well, if Anna thought it was cute, maybe this was a good thing.
