Aelita's diary, part 1

Dear Diary,

I never thought I'd write (or rather type) a diary on my laptop, but with everything that's been going on lately, it's for the best.

My name is Aelita. I'm not going to beat around the bush. X.A.N.A. is back. We destroyed him, though.

X.A.N.A. is a virus, an artificial intelligence wanting to dominate the world. At first, he was stuck on the Lyoko's virtual world, but he was able to free himself and flees to the net. The internet if you prefer. After many journeys and battles, my friends and I defeated and destroyed him. Or so we thought.

I should tell you about them, dear diary, but that's not the primary reason you were created. Briefly, there's Jeremy. He's... He's my boyfriend. Then there's Odd, Ulrich, Yumi and... William. Although William has been freed from X.A.N.A.'s grasp (it's a long story!), Ulrich is suspicious of him. Jeremy seems to avoid him. Yumi barely speaks to him and Odd, well, he's humorous as always. Odd is a jokester by nature.

I think it is unfair to treat him this way. Yes, William caused us a lot of trouble, but he was controlled by X.A.N.A. Jeremy doesn't want him to be part of the Lyoko Warriors again. I am trying to change his mind, without success.

Anyway, the reason you exist, dear diary, is to help me better understand what is happening to me. You see, since X.A.N.A. came back, strange things have been occurring to me. I think I see things, like visions but only for a moment, like a flash. I get headaches a lot and I've fainted in gym class!

Yumi suggested I write a diary. She is so kind. I can always confide in her. Anyway, here we go, dear diary. You, me, and telling the past. Well, I have to get back to class. I'll see you later.

Dear Diary,

I started seeing blurry during my math class. I asked Mrs. Meyer to go to the nurse's office, without saying exactly why, and on the way my eyesight returned to normal. Other than that, no other incidents occurred. Jeremy was worried about me, but I reassured him with a lame excuse. I hate to lie to him, but I don't want to worry him until I know exactly what is happening to me.

Anyway, I have to tell you everything from the beginning. One Friday (I'm sure it was a Friday), the college computer system went crazy. I study at Kadic College, by the way. Jeremy thought it was a simple hacker, but when Odd and William told him they saw the X.A.N.A. sigil appearing, in a flash, on computer screens, he had to know for sure.

We then went back to the old disused factory as soon as we were in the clear. Ulrich didn't want William to come but he was so insistent that Jeremy ordered Ulrich to leave him alone. He didn't want those two to start a fight. Since Ulrich and William are already rivals in love for Yumi... But shhh! Keep that to yourself, dear diary.

To get to the factory, we use a secret passage in the sewers that leads us directly to a bridge and right in front of the factory. There is a manhole in Kadic College's big park. We take it all the time to get to the factory.

When we have entered the factory, on the main floor, we go down a little further using ropes that hang from the ceiling, then Jeremy calls the elevator (a freight elevator). To use it, we have to enter a security code. Thanks to the elevator, we can go to the factory's secret lower floors.

To explain it simply: the ground floor = the main floor. Basement 1 = the lab with the scanners' control on a computer interface and with other functions. Basement 2 = the scanner room that we use to virtualize on Lyoko. Basement 3 = the supercomputer room.

We take the elevator and go to the supercomputer room. Jeremy then asks who want the honor of turning it back on, since we turned it off with the (presumed) destruction of X.A.N.A. No one said a word, although I think William had meant to say something, so Jeremy raised the lever. We watched as the hatch opened and the supercomputer slowly came out, before it completely popped out, turned on and "came to life."

Then we took the elevator back to the lab. Jeremy, back in his element, sat in a large chair, resembling a dentist's chair, and began typing on the computer interface.

This interface consists of four flat-screen monitors and a keyboard. There is the main screen, which is very large, and the other three are smaller. They "surround" the main screen, with one on the left, one on the right, and one above it. The computer interface also has a CD and DVD player.

Soon, the holomap appeared. It is a digital map in a globe shape. It displays the different Lyoko's Sectors, namely the Forest, the Desert, the Ice, the Mountain and Sector 5, where the virtual world's Heart is located.

Jeremy looks at the holomap steadily as he continues to type. Ulrich asks him if he notices anything suspicious. For the moment, nothing, but then a familiar sound is heard from the interface. A Tower is activated in the Desert sector! Jeremy is confused. The Super Scan should have detected it long before now. No matter. The Lyoko Warriors have to get back to work, virtualize on Lyoko, and it's up to me to deactivate the Tower.
An activated Tower means one thing: X.A.N.A. is back. We were stunned. How could he survive? Then his "attack" at Kadic College is very strange. Usually, X.A.N.A. targets us and tries to eliminate us. But here, nothing. No people possessed by X.A.N.A., no electrical objects trying to attack us... Nothing!

Well, it's getting late. I have to do my homework and go to bed soon. More tomorrow, dear diary!
