IMPORTANT! Hello! I'm back! It's been such a long time since I've had the motivation to write anything. For those of you who still follow me and are still waiting for me to finish my other works...I AM SO SORRY! I literally have no excuses! I promise to figure out what to do with those stories and I am so thankful none of you have burned me at the stake! Anyway, this is my first Harry Potter fanfic story I'm writing and I'm honestly posting this first chapter to get some feedback. I actually want to finish this story and have decided that the best solution for me is to write most of this 7 part story out and then when I'm at least halfway done, I'll start posting. Unfortunately, I don't expect to start posting book one of this series until late this year. But please, if you like this first chapter let me know. If you don't like it, please let me know why and what I could possibly do to fix any issues you might have with it.
September 1st, 1991 Platform 9 ¾
"Are you ready Princesa?" A tall man of 5'9" asked, looking down at his niece.
This was the girls first year at Hogwarts, one of the most, if not the most, prestigious school in all of Wizarding Europe. It was her first time so far away from home, a sea away. However, as nervous as she was, she was also excited. She felt that this might be her chance of freedom, her one chance to live a happy life, at least until she finished school. But that was something to worry about at a later date.
Looking up at my favorite Uncle, I smiled.
"Yes, Tío I'm ready. What house do you think I'll get into?" I asked as we walked towards the train.
"Princesa, it doesn't matter what house so long as you are happy." My Uncle said warmly.
"Yes, I guess that's true, but mama said I have to get into the best house." I said with a sigh.
At that point we had gotten to a part of the train that was less crowded.
"Princesa." My Uncle said as he bent down to my eye level. "Do not worry about your parents, especially when you are away at school. You are safe, so do what makes you happy. Just don't get into too much trouble." My Uncle said, smirking at that last part.
"Gracias Tío, but I never get caught. I'm too smart for that" I said proudly.
" Sure you don't." He said sarcastically " It's time for you to go. Take care, have fun and owl me as soon as you are settled. Te amo, Princesa." My Uncle said as I got onto the train.
"Te amo, tio." I said, giving him a goodbye hug.
*break*
Looking for a compartment seemed to be more difficult than I thought. Mostly everywhere was full. I went to turn around and ran right into someone.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't see where I was going." I said a bit apologetically.
"Not a problem-"
"We were escaping-"
"From a prank we just pulled."
They were twins, identical twins. I just stared at them. They had to be a year or two older than me.
" Are you a first year student?" One of them asked.
"Yes, I'm Natalia. Who might you two be?" I asked
" Fred Weasley at your service" The one said in a mock bow.
"And I am George Weasley." The other one said, bowing like his brother.
" It's nice to meet you both." I said with a mock curtsy.
They grinned at that.
"Is there any chance that you two know where I can find a compartment." I asked looking back the way I came.
"Sure-"
"That's easy."
"Towards the back of the train" They said in unison.
"Be careful of the Slytherins though." The one I believe was Fred had said.
" The Slytherins? Why? What's wrong with the Slytherins?" I asked curiously.
" Simple house rivalry." The other one, George, had said.
" Okay, thank you." I said as I turned to head towards the back of the train. It took a bit till I finally found a near empty compartment. Inside sat a boy about my age. I knocked on the door and opened it.
"Sorry to bother you, may I join you?" I asked with a nervous smile.
" Sure." He said.
" My name is Natalia Maria Viviana Gonzalez." I said with a smile.
" Harry Potter." He said with a half smile.
"It's nice to meet you. Are you a first year too?" I asked.
" Yes." He said.
" That's great, so am I!" I said excitedly.
Right when I was about to ask him another question, the door to the compartment slammed open.
"Sorry. Everywhere else is full. Mind if I sit here?" A red head kid had asked.
Harry looked at me and I shrugged.
"Sure." Harry said.
"Thanks. My name is Ron by the way, Ron weasley." He said as he sat next to Harry.
" My name is Natalia. Are you by chance related to Fred and George Weasley?" I asked curiously.
" Yea, they're my older brothers. How do you know them?" Ron asked, curiously.
"I ran into them earlier. They seemed pretty nice." I said.
" They're alright." Ron grumbled out, looking towards Harry.
"Who are you?" Ron asked to Harry.
"Oh sorry, I'm Harry, Harry Potter."
At that answer, Ron's eyes nearly came out.
"Blimey! You're Harry Potter aren't you!" Ron all but yelled.
"Yea." Harry said sheepishly.
"What's so exciting about Harry's name?" I asked, completely confused.
" What do you mean? He defeated He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named as a baby!" Ron explained.
I looked over at Harry who was blushing a tad bit.
" Sorry, I don't know who or what you are talking about. I've lived all my life in Spain." I said, shrugging my shoulders.
Ron looked at me mouth agape. It was at that moment that a girl walked in asking if we had seen a toad. It turned out that a boy named Neville had lost it and she was helping him look for it. After introducing ourselves she ended up sitting with us for the remainder of the train ride. Her name was Hermione, and while I didn't know what to think of her or the other two, I could tell the boys found her a bit odd.
Once we were off the train we were directed to the boats that would take us to the school by a man that was taller than anyone I had ever seen. Right away I could tell he must be half giant. Next to me I could hear Harry explaining to Ron that the half giant's name was Hagrid and apparently he worked at the school as a groundskeeper. If my mama knew this she would have a heart attack.
"Harry, how do you know so much about the groundskeeper?" I asked as we got into the boats.
" He told me I was a wizard and took me to get my supplies for school." Harry said, a little hesitant.
" Is that a normal thing to occur for Hogwarts students?" I asked, even more curious about this boy.
"Why are you so nosy?" Ron asked quite rudely from is spot next to Harry.
" Seeing as you've forgotten Weasley, I'll remind you. I am not from here. I was born in Spain. Therefore, I have no idea the customs or traditions of Hogwarts. At Beauxbatons it is a high privilege and honor for a Professor to personally deliver your acceptance letter." I said, glaring at him.
Ron just glared back.
"Do they really do that?" Harry asked, looking a bit surprised.
"Yes, though my letter was respectfully turned down since I was coming here." I said, smiling.
"Why did you come here?" Ron remarked snidely.
"Now who's being nosy." I said glaring at him.
After that we didn't talk for the remainder of the ride. It wasn't long before we arrived at the school. It was breathtaking. It was more magnificent than I had remembered. As we climbed out the boats we were taken through the school and up a grand staircase. At the top stood a woman of regal posture and a stern look on her face. She introduced herself as Professor McGonagall and explained the four houses we'd be sorted into. Afterwards she had us wait to enter the great hall. The minute she left a boy with platinum blond hair sauntered over to Harry and Ron.
"The names Malfoy, Draco Malfoy." The boy said with a smug look on his face as he introduced himself to Harry.
From there I knew I did not like him. He reminded me of this boy from home who I despised. Ron started to snicker which of course made the blonde boy angry.
"Think my name is funny, do you? No need to ask yours. Red hair and hand me down rob, you must be a Weasley." Malfoy said, sneering.
Before Ron could respond I stepped in between them.
" And what's so good about being a Malfoy? Besides the hair, I don't see anything worth noting." I said with a smirk.
Malfoy glared daggers at me but before anything else could be said Professor McGonagall returned and walked us into the great hall. The great hall was magnificent. There had to be over a thousand candles alight over our heads. As we got to the front of the steps Professor McGonagall pulled out a roll of parchment and started calling names up to be sorted. Harry, Hermione and Ron got sorted into Gryffindor and that arrogant boy was sorted into Slytherin. Soon it would be my turn.
"Natalia Maria Viviana Gonzalez." McGonagall called out.
I walked up with my head held high and sat on the stool where Professor McGonagall placed the hat on my head.
"Ah, another tricky one." It said, sounding a bit amused.
"Lots of talent, yes, courage with a bit of mischief and ambition beyond comparison. Yes, it's all coming together and I know exactly where to put you… better be SLYTHERIN!" The hat pronounced.
Getting up and feeling internally dejected from not being sorted with the group of potential friends I had met on the train, I walked over to the cheering Slytherins with a smile plastered on my face. I sat down next to a pug faced girl and across from that arrogant Malfoy boy. He was smirking like he just won a grand prize.
"What are you smirking at Malfoy?" I asked glaring at him.
"Nothing, just thinking about how this is going to be a great year." He said in a smug voice.
I rolled my eyes at him and turned when I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was the pug faced girl.
"Who are you?" She asked with a demanding tone.
Was Slytherin full of spoiled stuck up rich kids? I could tell she was going to be a handful.
"Doesn't proper etiquette say that you are supposed to introduce yourself first before asking for my name or is that not how things are done in England's Wizarding society anymore?" I said with a grin.
It was funny to watch as the girl's face grew hot with anger and then simmered down enough for her to bite out a response.
"How would you know anything about proper etiquette?" She said, glaring.
I smirked.
"If you refuse to use proper etiquette then allow me. My name is Natalia Maria Viviana Gonzalez, daughter of Hector Julio Enrique Gonzalez. The Heiress to Gonzalez's Potions World Wide." I said, smirking.
Everyone within earshot just stared at me in shock, except for Malfoy who looked at me stone faced.
" How do we know what you say is true?" The pugged faced girl asked.
" Common sense but if you don't have any then that's not my problem." I said turning away from her to start eating.
After that little conversation I was left alone to eat in peace. The headmaster had informed us of a few rules before we were sent to our dorms. The forbidden forest was forbidden, which was obvious, and a corridor on the third floor was off limits. That last part piqued my interest and I made sure to take note of it for later.
Following the prefects down to the dungeons, I realized that winter here was going to be the absolute worst. Whoever decided to put one of the houses in the dungeons and under the black lake must have hated warmth and sunlight. However, as we entered the common room, I could see that the place looked quite comfy. There were many couches and a huge fireplace. As annoying as winter was going to be, for once in my life I truly felt at home. Following the directions the Prefects gave us and after a few minutes, I finally found my room. There were four girls in each room and unfortunately for me, one of my roommates was that pug faced girl from earlier.
Before either one of us could say anything, a girl with long blonde hair and bright blue eyes approached me.
"Hi, my name is Daphne Greengrass and that over there sleeping is Millicent Bulstrode." She said, pointing to the only bed with its curtains drawn.
" It's nice to meet you. My name is Natalia Maria Viviana Gonzalez but my closest friends call me Lia." I said smiling.
" Right, rumor has it that you're the heiress to the infamous Gonzalez Potions World Wide." She said with a curious look.
I froze for a bit. Most people tended to warm up to me solely for the purpose of getting closer to my family. They only cared about my last name. I only mentioned my family to the pug faced girl because of her blatant rudeness.
" And if it's true?" I asked, with a stoic face.
" Then maybe you can put Draco in his place. All summer long he talked non stop about his potion lessons with his godfather, how his godfather is going to be our potions professor and that he'll get top marks for sure. You have no idea how annoying it was. I swear he just loves to hear his voice." Daphne ranted.
"So you don't care that my family is super wealthy and practically descendants of royalty?" I asked, a bit skeptical.
" Not really, no. While my family may not be descendents of royalty, we are still descendants of nobility. Most purebloods around the world are descendants of either royalty or nobility. Besides, me and all my friends are rich so what's the difference if I have one more rich friend." She said smiling.
I was a bit surprised. Growing up, I never really had any friends. At a certain age everything just became facades and kept up appearances. My so-called friends were forced to get close to me for my family's wealth and power. This, however, was refreshing. I hope what she said is true.
"I'm happy to hear that." I said smiling.
So what do you think? Horrible? Yea, I agree. Seriously, it's almost 3:30am and I feel like at least the last half of this chapter is horrible. I guess that's what happens when you force yourself to write even though you're exhausted. I swear, I am going to proofread and go over the story a million times until I like it enough to post it. This is only a rough draft.
