He had to see her, watching Jackson and Emma die was hard, and it made him understand that life for him wasn't short, but life for Beth was, and while he was being hesitant to want to start anything with her and continuing to tell her things wouldn't work, it was due to his own fears of being hurt. He already loved Beth more than he had ever loved anyone and he wasn't sure if he could stand to lose her later on down the track, but now he couldn't wait another moment to tell her that he loved her.

Knocking on her door, he was relieved when she opened it, he knew she was angry and upset she couldn't be a part of what had just happened but he couldn't put her through that. "I assume your vampire business meant getting Emma out of jail, where is she?" Was the first thing she asked after opening the door to him. He knew he had to be honest and just tell her outright, "She's dead", he swallowed before he said anything else, "She was a liability to our community".

"Vampires dispensing vampire justice", she scoffed making it known how she felt about that, shaking her head a little. "There have to be rules Beth", he simply responded to her, "And Jackson?", she asked, wondering what had happened to him. She knew how in love those two were, and how broken he would have to have been. Mick looked down to the right for a moment before looking back at her, "He didn't want to live without her".

Her heart broke thinking they were just executed, she had been around them, had talked to them, gotten to know them, and now they didn't exist anymore, "So they were both just executed?", she asked as she shook her head in disgust.

Sighing softly as he looked down to the left, and just shook his head. He might not necessarily like the rules, but he couldn't see a way around it if he was honest. If it was a human, they would be in prison, but a vampire like Emma couldn't be locked up in a human prison, and they didn't have a thing such as a vampire prison because most likely they would escape at some stage.

Bet turned, letting out a soft sigh and walked further into the apartment, Mick following her in, standing behind her, "I know that this isn't easy for you to understand", he wanted to take her into his arms, but he allowed her to keep her space, showing her respect, and she sighed again, turning back around to face him, feeling the weight on her shoulders, already hating herself for what she was about to say.

"Look, you've been saying for months now that things can't work between us", Mick was confused, why was she going there, but he listened for now, "that we live in different words", she shook her head, "and I didn't want to hear you, but maybe you're right". If he had a beating heart, it would have shattered into pieces now, he stood stoic, but he gazed up, and then back towards her, but not directly at her, his eyes already beginning to brim with tears at what he knew these words meant, "You can't come back to my world", her own eyes tearing up, she couldn't believe she was doing this, "and I'm not ready to join yours".

Shaking his head, he couldn't believe this, he didn't want to believe it", "Wait, you think that that's what this is about? Do you think I'm gonna want to turn you?" She answered as honestly as she could "wouldn't you? Eventually?" He couldn't answer that because he knew that while he couldn't ever imagine a time when he was forced to do it because it meant Beth was dying, he also couldn't imagine his future without her, but he knew he couldn't be selfish enough to ask her to make that kind of sacrifice.

"And what happens when I start to get old?", she continued on, her face showing her emotions, she had thought about this a lot since she had last spoken to Mick, he tried to speak but no words came out and could feel his whole soul just come crashing down on him, she sniffled a little as she went on, "maybe then I'd want it too". His expressions were killing her because she could see how much it was hurting him as well, "I don't ever want to have to make that decision", she whispered softly, shaking her head.

"Emma and Jackson made me realise that you were right". This was not happening he kept saying over and over in his mind. He had come here to tell her she was right, and that he wanted to give this a proper chance to grow into something, right when he was ready, she was pushing him away, "I don't..", she stopped and sniffled again, "think I can do this anymore".

Looking into her eyes, he stood there for a moment, trying to think of how he could turn this around but then he saw the resolve in her eyes and he needed to get out of there, he couldn't let her watch him break down, and so he turned around and began to walk out of the door, stopping for a moment at the door frame hoping she would stop him, but continuing on when she didn't.

Walking a little down the hallway, all he could do was press his forehead against the wall, his throat felt like he had a lump stuck in it, and his eyes closed as he tried to make sense of what had just happened, Beth just standing there for a moment, willing him to come back so she could take back what she had just said, but when it seemed he wasn't, she walked towards to door, and closed it.

Sighing heavily as he heard the door close, he thought to himself how had spent the last fifty-five years trying to close the door on forever, but as Beth closed the door, he realised that he couldn't anymore. He thought he had experienced love before with Ray's wife when he was still a human, but his feelings for Beth were nothing as he had ever felt before, and he knew he couldn't close the door on Beth.

Beth fell apart the moment she closed the door, leaning against the wall frame, her hand on the frame, forehead leaning on her arm, very much in a similar fashion to how Mick was positioned outside, her tears streaming down her face now, her body visibly shaking as she tried to control her emotions but couldn't.

Mick had spent too much time pushing her away. He was afraid of getting hurt because he knew in his heart that Beth was the one for him, and he was so in love with her and he was hiding it behind irrational reasons like it wouldn't work between a vampire and a human. Truth was, he didn't know how it could work in the long run, or if they would stay together, or if Beth would want to be turned one day, but he knew he couldn't hold back anymore. He couldn't hide behind those reasons because the feeling of not ever seeing Beth again now was too much for him to handle.
"πΌ'π£π π ππππ‘ π‘βπ πππ π‘ ππππ‘π¦ πππ£π π¦ππππ , π‘ππ¦πππ π‘π ππππ π π‘βπ ππππ ππ πππππ£ππ, ππ’π‘ πΌ πππ'π πππ¦ππππ. πΌ πππ'π ππππ π π‘βπ ππππ ππ π©πππ"
Hoping the door wasn't locked he made his decision and moved back towards the door, opening it up, and walking in to see Beth standing with her back to him, leaning on the wood frame, he could hear her crying, her little sniffle as he moved a little closer and be began to speak, saying to her what he wanted to when she first told him she thought he was right. "Want to know what Emma and Jackson made me realize?".

He stopped for a moment, thinking through every word, "That you were right!", He emphasised the word, you, wanting her to know she was right and he was wrong, "You were right all along. This". He stopped and sighed softly, once again emphasising the next word "isn't about being a vampire or a human! This is about us! How we feel about each one another. Right here! Right now!".

This was the last chance though, he needed to fight for her but he also wanted to respect her as well, and if she wanted him to leave, he would but he knew he just needed to make her understand he was ready to put all of himself into this with her. He didn't expect her to say what she said next, it confused him a little, "The night that we first met", She shook her head, and started again realising they had met twice, "met again, whatever, what was I wearing?" Her words were soft, her voice trembling a little, and she heard the confession as he answered her question, "blue jeans, white striped shirt, cream jacket".

Beth's heart sped up as she turned around finally to face Mick, the tear streaks still visible on her cheeks, and under her eyes, "What about my shoes?", she asked knowing she had taken them off to walk barefoot in the fountain to get her photo. "You were barefoot", he responded very easily, a small smile crossing his lips as he recalled, his mind taking him back to that night as though it had occurred just yesterday, and he saw it vividly in his head, she shook her head in awe at that, "How can you remember that?"

His next words took her breath away, it was the first time she had heard those words from him, and it renewed her own belief in them, "Because I love you Beth", he whispered, and before he could react, she was in his arms and kissing him, his body relaxing as he kissed her back, his hand moving to her cheek as he cradled her in his arms, and kicked the door closed with his foot.
Letting out a soft moan, her eyes closed as he deepened the kiss and she pressed her body closer to him, "I love you too Mick", she responded as she pulled away for a moment, her eyes opening to gaze back into his eyes. Beth wasn't sure what the future would hold for them, but she knew that her heart and head were in agreement for once, and she knew she couldn't push Mick away now.
While he would be alive for the rest of forever, she was living on borrowed time and she had to figure out what she wanted and what Mick wanted. She wasn't sure if she could ask him to turn her, she wasn't sure if he would want to, but she also wasn't sure if she could make him watch her live to old age and then die, leaving him alone forever. She knew of his history, and couldn't bare the thought of leaving him alone.
"Penny for your thoughts?", he asked her softly as he took her hand and walked her over to the couch where they both sat, his eyes intense as they searched hers, hoping for an answer in those beautiful eyes of hers. "It's nothing, really", she whispered, wiping her tears away from her face as she shook her head. Mick had wanted them to focus on each other, now, and not what was or should or shouldn't happen later down the track. Mick's fingers traced down her cheek, moving to push her hair back behind her ears, "If it's about the future, we'll just take it one day at a time okay.. We'll work it all out, let's just enjoy this and see if we can make it as a couple first".
Nodding her head, she leaned into him, she always wanted to know where things were going in life, in her working career, in her personal life, she knew with Josh, it would lead to marriage, before his death, so this was new, and daunting for her, to let fate take control and take a back seat for once and just let it ride out the way it is meant to. "I can do that", she whispered, gazing into his eyes as she let him comfort her and hold her in his arms. She had been attracted to him since that day she re-met him as an adult, and she could always sense there was an attraction on his side as well.
Finding out he is a vampire, and that he is the one that saved her all those years ago as a child when his ex-wife had kidnapped her, and knowing he was always lurking around in the background of her life, making sure she stayed safe was one of the things that made her fall for him, just knowing how kind and caring and selfless he truly was. If Josh had lived, she knew that would have come to an end at some point, her feelings for Mick were just far too strong and as much as it would have been more uncomplicated being with a human, that was not what her heart wanted.
Mick could sense she was getting tired, and he smiled softly seeing her eyes begin to close as she lay her head against his shoulder, "You should get some sleep Beth, it's been a long day", he whispered as he rubbed her back softly, "Stay with me?", she pleaded as her eyes opened and gazed intently into hers and he nodded his head. He didn't need to sleep, when he did, it was then that he slept in a freezer, but he didn't need to sleep the way humans needed it.
Standing up, he made sure the door was locked, and then walked back to the couch and pulled her up gently and lifted her into his arms, carrying her into the bedroom, a bedroom he had never been inside of before. Once in there, he set her down, so she could use the bathroom and change into her pyjamas. While part of him wanted to be able to take things further now, he knew he wanted to ease into this relationship, and take her on a proper date before he was intimate with her, but for now, he was happy to lay down by her side and watch over her as she slept.
Once she was in bed, he undressed, staying in just his boxers and then got in with her, covering the blankets over them as she snuggled into him, his fingers running up and down her arm as she kissed his chest, letting out a soft moan at the feel of her lips on his skin, "Thanks for staying Mick", she whispered softly, gazing up to look at him, "It's my pleasure Beth", he responded as he held her closer, watching as she slowly closed her eyes and fell asleep quickly, his soul feeling at peace knowing that he and Beth had a chance to figure out their way around this complicated romance.
It wasn't going to be easy, but he knew that it was worth it. He had never felt this way about anyone before in his entire lifetime, as a human and as a vampire. As he watched Beth's breathing even out to indicate she was indeed asleep, he smiled, thinking just how lucky he was to have her in his life.
Author's Notes:
I have been watching Moonlight over and over for around two years and have been role-playing as him, and have a wonderful writing partner who is my Beth. I ship Beth and Mick and so now I have a little experience role-playing him and watching him on the screen, I thought I'd try my first Moonlight fan fiction story. I decided to start with the scene that ended the series and play with what I think would have happened realistically after the door closed. I also love doing these types as I can add more of their thoughts and feelings into the writing as well, which I feel can make these even deeper. I hope you all enjoy this story if it does well and people would love to see more, I may be inclined to keep writing this one, and perhaps more of Moonlight and McBeth. I am not sure if McBeth is the right ship name, but feels right since her name is Beth and his name is Mick.
