With Your Eyes

Naruto nearly choked on his laughter at Sasuke's dry reply to his joke. The two men were the most popular morning show DJs in Konoha. Naruto spoke into the microphone "We'll be playing the latest hit by Karin after the commercial break. Back in two minutes!"

Sasuke flicked the switch that muted their mics. "You're an idiot."

Naruto grinned at his partner. "Yeah, but you know you love it!"

The door to the booth slammed open and their producer, Sakura, burst into the room.

Sasuke opened his mouth to snap at her but noticed that the pink-haired woman was sheet white. "What's wrong?"

Sakura could only hold out a piece of paper in a violently shaking hand.

Sasuke took it from her and read it.

He could feel the blood draining from his face.

Naruto looked from Sakura to Sasuke. "What's happened?"

Sasuke swallowed. His normally mellow voice came out in a rasp. "Nuclear missiles have been fired."

Naruto's jaw dropped. "What?! Where? How many?"

Sasuke looked into the blue eyes of the man he loved most in the world. "North Korea started it. Russia fired theirs and the U.S. has responded." He shook his head. "It's all of them. It's…the end of the world."

Naruto sagged. "Oh God have mercy on us all…"

Sakura spoke her voice like shattered glass. "We have a legal obligation to tell our listeners."

Naruto and Sasuke didn't even look at each other. Naruto shoved Sakura out the door and locked it. Sasuke started playing the song they promised to play.

Naruto pulled a bottle of whiskey from under the desk, opened it and took a long swallow as Sakura beat her fists against the window. She was clearly screaming but they couldn't hear her through the sound-proof glass.

Through the window on the outer wall, in the far-off distance, they could see a bright light.

Sasuke took the bottle from Naruto's hand and took his own swallow. He put the bottle down on the desk and ran a hand through his hair. "How do I look?"

Naruto deliberately misunderstood the question. "With your eyes, my love. With your eyes."

The pair moved into one final embrace as they were covered by a tsunami of hellish light.
