"So, who's your boyfriend?"
Scott hated missing five years of Cassie's life. He missed watching his little girl grow up. The last time he saw her, she was obsessed with the Goosebumps books. Now, according to Scott's ex-wife, she was seeing someone. Scott was unable to get the name from Maggie.
"I don't have one," Cassie responded. He picked her up from school. Cassie moved in with her dad, Hope, Janet, and Hank.
"Your mom mentioned you were seeing someone," Scott said. "I'm not mad. I want to give him the old 'Hey, I'm an Avenger. Don't hurt my daughter because I'm friends with the Hulk.'"
Scott found that funnier than Cassie did. "Tough crowd," Scott joked.
"If you must know," Cassie started. "Her name is Nia."
Scott was surprised. "Nia," Scott said. "Oh, I remember Nia. She was your friend with the cop dad."
"Yeah," Cassie said.
"I remember the good old days," Scott said. "It was always Nia and Cassie. You two have always been two peas in a pod. How long have you two been together?"
"About a year," Cassie said. "I don't know why it took me so long to tell you. I wanted to tell you. I pictured how I'd tell you so many times during those five years. I never had a chance to tell you."
"How long have you known?" Scott asked.
"I think I've always known," Cassie responded. "It was small things. I realized I never looked at a guy the way I look at a girl. I didn't start using the term lesbian until during those five years. That's when I came out to everyone."
"Well, I love you, Peanut," Scott said. "Nothing could change that."
"I love you too," Cassie said. She gave him a faint smile.
"Still going to give her the 'I'm friends with the Hulk' speech," Scott responded.
