Hey everyone! What's up!?
So first off, if you haven't read IDW's Scrapnik Island, please do so, because from here, there will be spoilers!
And I highly recommend you do, because it was great!
My favorite parts was when Tails faced off Mecha Sonic by himself and although Mecha won, the little fox put up a good and brave fight, also looked pretty bada** in the gear he made right on the spot! I also loved at the end, during the final fight between Sonic and Mecha Sonic, Sonic went, "Cut the c***" and encouraged Mecha he was worth living and be given a chance.
Anyway, lets get on with this one shot, which takes place after that comic story!
(Sonic's POV)
Riding on top of the Tornado, I looked out at the vast sea underneath as the sun was shining brightly down, I let out a sigh as I looked besides me. Tails focused on flying and looking down at the control panel in first of him, which had a screen showing a map. All just blue in color, of course with us being above the ocean that made sense…
Until a small landmass showed up on the screen and Tails smiled.
"Scrapnik Island is just ahead, we should be able to see it with our eyes shortly." Tails told me above the roar of the Tornado's engine as I kept my eyes froward and sure enough the shape of the island came into view.
This brought back memories of when Tails and I first encountered the unknown island, it was dark and stormy, with lightning flashes every so often. We would have missed the island had it not been for the occasional light from the flashes and we would have continued flying had it not been for a lightning flash which sent us clashing down.
And well, lets just say Tails and I had quite an adventure ourselves on that tiny island in the middle of the sea. Long story short, I almost switched minds with a mechanical version of me, but of course everything turned out alright in the end and with the Tornado repaired, Tails and I flew back home.
However, we didn't forget about the island and the friends we made there and so Tails and I decided to take a trip back there when we had the time, bringing along something special for a friend…
Circling the island above, we made sure its residents knew we were here as we were greeted by happy waves as we waved back while a runway and landing spot was quickly cleared out for us. Once that was done, Tails gently brought down the biplane for a landing, coming to a stop and turning off the engine.
"Greetings Sonic and Tails, long time no see." One of the residents, a nice looking robot, came up with a smile. "What brings you two back again?"
"Hey Sigma, nice to see you too." Tails greeted. "Sonic and I weren't busy so we thought we would take the trip out here to see how you all are doing."
"Well, we are doing very good, even Mecha Knuckles and…" Sigma began, but was cut off by another robot, who appeared behind Sonic and Tails.
"Sonic, I never expected for you to be back…" A robotic voice sounded as Tails and I turned around to see the mechanical version of me standing there, taller than us. "Why have you and your friend returned?"
"As Tails just told Sigma, we're just taking a little trip, but also, we wanted to bring you something." I smiled at Mecha as he looked surprised.
"For me?" Mecha Sonic questioned back as Tails and I went back to the Tornado, getting something from the seat behind the cockpit seat, big, heavy bags, which only confused Mecha Sonic. "What are those?"
"Sigma told me during our first visit here that you wanted to plant your sunflower in real soil one day." I began. "Tails and I figured if you all can't leave, the next best thing would be to bring some from our home to you, I know it's not much and what you would want, but…"
"Thank you Sonic, I accept your gift." Mecha spoke in a happy tone, which made me smile as Tails got out some gardening tools we brought along too.
"Well than, you get your flower and then we can get started, you and I." I urged Mecha, nodding the robot went off to get his sunflower while Tails and I picked out a suitable place, with plenty of open sunlight for the flower to stay alive and grow well.
"You sure you don't want me to help you guys?" Tails asked me with some concern, more on the side that my pal was still a little afraid of leaving me alone with Mecha for some time, reminding me of our first unscheduled trip here.
"I'll be fine buddy, you just go catch up with everyone else, maybe see if anyone needs any repairs." I assured the little fox. "Mecha is a friend now, not an enemy." I reminded Tails as said robot came up, waving to us as I waved Mecha over.
With a little hesitation, Tails left, starting to go past Mecha, but stopped when Mecha spoke to the fox.
"I apologize for the last time we saw each other small fox, but you have my praise for putting up a fight against a superior foe." Mecha told Tails, which made the fox shake a little, remembering that time.
"Thanks…" Tails replied back and continued on his way, Mecha staying for a second, before continuing on and joining me by the spot we would plant the sunflower.
"Your friend still does not trust me." Mecha told me.
"Give him some time, from what Tails told me, it's not something you can easily forget." I told Mecha.
"I understand, but I'm better now, I look to the future, not the past." Mecha said with a genuine tone.
"I know." I replied in a firm voice. "Now, what are we waiting for, pop that thing open and lets get started." I pointed at the tight air sealed container Mecha kept the flower in.
While Mecha got the container open, I opened up the couple of bags of fresh soil Tails and I brought along, before I handed Mecha a shovel as we both began to dig into the hard surface of the island. It took some time and effort, but of course Mecha had the proper strength to do so, digging through the hard surface and opening up a big enough hole to accept the fresh soil.
Mecha then placing the flower down, before we took shovelfuls of the soil, burying the roots of the flower until it was all covered up as we patted down the soil to make it even. Once that was done, we put some fresh water before we took a step back to admire our work.
"Looks pretty nice, better than having it stuck in that container in a dark room right?" I asked Mecha.
"Agreed, my friend." Mecha replied. "Thank you again Sonic, I will always treasure this gift."
"You're welcome, it's what friends do for each other." I extended out a hand to Mecha for a shake as Mecha accepted it, gently grabbing on as we shook.
Mecha and I then decided to relax, sitting down and just chatting with each other about our lives, until the sun started to set over the horizon, the sky turning a bright orange. Enjoying the wonderful sunset, I heard Tails as he was calling out to me, looking back I could see my pal waving at me as I stood up, Mecha following me.
"Looks like you two enjoyed your time." Tails told me.
"We sure did, it was relaxing." I replied.
"Yes, it was." Mecha agreed.
"Well, ready to head back home, we got quite a trip back." Tails asked me.
"Ready, hopefully Eggman hasn't did anything while we were gone." I joked as the three of us made our way back to where the Tornado was parked, everyone there to say goodbye for now and wish us a safe trip back.
"Safe travels Sonic and Tails." Sigma told us as Tails sat down in the cockpit while I climbed up onto the wing of the biplane.
"Will you visit again?" Mecha asked me specifically.
"Definitely, I want to see how tall your flower grew when I come back." I chuckled. "Until next time Mecha." I gave the robot a salute, with Mecha returning it.
Tails then started up the Tornado's engine as the propeller spun to life, Tails holding the brakes for a few seconds so everyone had a chance to say their goodbyes for now. Once that was done, Tails released the brakes and the plane lifted up into the sky, everyone on Scrapnik Island still waving until the Tornado disappeared from sight.
"So…" Tails spoke to me as soon as the island was far behind us. "Nothing happened for me to worry about right?" Tails asked, a little nervousness in his voice.
"Don't worry buddy, Mecha didn't switch our minds like last time." I smiled at my nervous friend. "But if it makes you feel better, you can run some tests when we get back home." I joked as Tails rolled his eyes at me.
"Very funny Sonic…" Tails told me as I just chuckled softly before I just looked out at the peaceful atmosphere around us, enjoying it while it lasts.
And that's a wrap on this little one shot!
I hope you enjoyed it and again, if you haven't read the Scrapnik Island comic story, please do so! It's really good!
Until than, see everyone later!
