"This is the biggest piece of dogshit in the history of dogshit" I murmured to myself low enough to not be heard, quite easy given the rattling of the cuffs and the sound of metal boots hitting a metal floor.
"Enough dilly-dallying! Get your sorry bodies out of the gondola and move forward prisoners" I moved behind the rest of the future inmates not paying anyone much attention at all, both not wanting to call attention to myself and to have some more time to think.
"Look alive scum, the Warden himself wants to talk to all of you, make sure you know the rules here"
I grumbled something very unkind and got a soft shove on the back for my troubles, looking behind me I saw a guard with his hands extended forward his helmet meant that I couldn't really judge his expression but the hilted sword on his hip was motivating enough to push forward.
It didn't take long to reach the true entrance of the prison the gondola was just the way in and out of the port of the island, looking to either side of me I counted 13 men all dressed in dark red prison robes…though one guy wasn't wearing a shirt for a reason. We were surrounded by guards each one wearing a helmet and standing with their backs straight and arms behind their backs.
"Welcome to the Boiling Rock prisoners" A voice said walking up from the stone stairs that led deeper into the prison, it seemed odd at first that the prisoners entered the place from the roof but the prison was literally located in the middle of a volcanic island it seemed almost hidden from the rest of world. I took the chance to take the surroundings while I was still on the roof, the lake around the prison was steaming, and the rocks at the other side of the lake were reaching higher than the prison itself.
…I'm fucked.
"I'm sure you have heard plenty of things about this esteemed establishment, many horrible terrifying things, as with most rumors there's a kernel of truth in them" The man that I could only assume was the Warden finally walked to stand in front of us, he was one ugly bastard, probably on his 40's and with a nose big enough to make it hard to look him in the eye.
"However!" The man barked making most prisoners, me included, flinch from the volume, the Warden strolling in front of us and walking from the leftmost prisoner to the right "All these rumors don't have to become reality to you…Guard Jazo why don't you tell the prisoners what they have to do?"
From the uniform crowd of guards, one noticeably snapped his head in our direction, he was scrawnier than most guards and looked quite nervous.
"Whatever you tell them to Mister Warden Sir!" The young voice basically shouted getting some chuckles from the rest of the crowd.
"Exactly! See that, you criminal scum? That's some trademark Fire Nation intellect, if you're lucky some of that will rub on you on your stay here" The Warden said with a satisfied sigh, looking at each prisoner, luckily enough he just passed me by without any deeper inspection.
"With that out of the way, I can feel safe knowing that each one of you knows the potential dangers of disobedience" The Warden arrogantly said already turning around, interestingly enough he was walking to the gondola.
"Guards show the prisoners where they will be sleeping for a long, long time" He finished sinisterly before we were all directed down the stone stairs right into the Boiling Rock.
Yep, I'm fucked.
Hearing the metal door closing behind me I sighed as I was left in my cell, it was more spacious than I expected for something designed for just one person but on the other hand, it was also completely empty. If I hadn't heard one of the guards brag about the prison being made out of the best metal available I would have thought the walls were made out of bronze or copper just from the color alone. There was only one thing in the room a slab of metal bolted against the right wall with a single very thin white blanket, my bed apparently.
How was I supposed to go to the bathroom?
I sat down on one of the corners of the cell, the only light coming inside was from the gaps in the metal door, a tiny space on the top that would allow me to see the other cells and maybe some guards, nothing I hadn't seen in the walk here though.
"So…the Avatar world is a thing that exists" I said to myself with disbelief, not as much as when I had 'woken' up two hours ago. Waking up chained to the cold walls of a Fire Nation boat wasn't something I ever expected to experience and I had freaked out a lot.
I had half-thought it was a dream but I didn't really have those too often and all this was too real anyway, I got fucking isekaid into a max security prison who has that happen to them? What am I Subaru?
I punched the wall at my left with the side of my fist getting a loud bang, then I did it again, and again.
"Fuck! What kind of luck is this!?" I shouted in disbelief smacking the back of my head against the corner of the room before slumping depressedly.
"Hey what's with the ruckus!? Don't make me come in there!" A voice shouted but I barely paid attention, it sounded like a kid.
"I don't even remember all that much about the series, and barely anything at all about this place" I hissed to myself And unlike the tropes I have no new memories, no idea what this body is like, who it belonged to, what crimes I apparently committed to deserve a maximum security prison, I don't even know this body's name!
And my actual name would probably sound like gibberish to the people here, Avatar was based on Chinese culture right? Or was it Japanese? Either way, it was definitely Asian and I was very much not that.
Looking at my hands showed what I had already discovered dark skin which was actually quite close to the one I used to have before, I haven't gotten the chance to see my face, the water was steamy, and none of the metal was reflective enough.
The rest of my body though was…nice, not a temple of muscle or a perfectly toned physique but I wasn't fat and floppy either it felt strong in a weird way, I felt no aches and I had the feeling that I could probably lift something really heavy. The kind of strength you get working an arduous job, rather than the lifting weights kind.
"Does that mean that this body is from the Water Nation? I could easily see someone living in one of the poles having a body like this" It had been a long time since I had seen Avatar and my memories of the show were nowhere near enough to judge what Nation I looked like.
I stayed there thinking for what must have been a couple of hours, it was something of a bad habit of mine when I was in a bad mood but I also did my best to think back and remember as much as I could about the world of Avatar, being here was still a shock to the system but if I had to point my main talent it would be rolling with the punches and remain standing.
I thought about the eclipse that Aang and friends had used to attack the Fire Nation, which seemed like it could lead to an escape but I wasn't too sure. Going from fire throwing guards to regular guards was good of course but still a shit situation. There was the option of waiting for Sokka to arrive and take a ride on his plan to escape but I have no clue what the date is, he could be infiltrating the place tomorrow or in a year and I would have no clue. Actually, the eclipse would probably take me by surprise as much as the guards.
The soft hiss of steam hit my ears and it took me a second to realize that the metal door opened mechanically, sliding to the left and opening my cell a female guard was standing there looking at me.
"What kind of guard's outfit leaves the belly exposed?" I asked with genuine disbelief, I get wanting to look nice but leaving your stomach revealed seemed a little odd for a guard on a Max Security prison. The woman didn't seem to like my observation, growling before pointing outside my cell.
"Prisoner Tai Lung, it's time for supper get your ass to the Cafeteria" She spat out making me perk up, I was feeling a bit peckish but I kept my expectations low this was prison food we were talking about.
"Wait, what did you call me?" I asked getting up and slowly walking outside the cell, the woman's posture was quite aggressive.
"You're Tai Lung, right? I swear if an idiot got mixed up again I will be angry" She sighed with some confusion, I was confused as well, an image of an angry anthropomorphic snow leopard going through my mind for a second.
"Huh, so that's my name" I said to myself earning an elbow to the ribs from the suddenly irritated guard, it didn't hurt at all but I felt that saying that would get her to actually try to hurt me.
"You were playing a prank on me?... Just go eat, I swear new prisoners are always the worst" The clearly overly emotional woman said stomping off after pointing towards the moving crowd of inmates, what a nice woman.
Well now to see if prison food was as bad as rumors say.
It's somehow worse. the meal they served us tasted like someone boiled potatoes, gamey meat, and rice together without any spices, not even salt. It was a weird taste and even worse I got bored of it before I finished the bowl. The Cafeteria was big but surprisingly enough there weren't a lot of people here at least not as many as I expected. There must have been 30 inmates eating at the moment and judging by the size of the prison there were a LOT more prisoners than just that.
Thankfully that meant that I got to eat on a table that would normally be suited for 8 all alone, the others had different groups some chatting while others just scarfing down on the food as fast as they could.
"Hello there! You must be new here"
I gave a look to the man that had just decided to sit with me, he was tall but scrawny, or maybe toned? It was hard to tell at first glance but he was giving me a big smile.
"I got here in the morning, charming place" I joked getting a snort and a sly smirk, the man had a mustache that was surprisingly well groomed, and his skin was much paler than mine.
"Lovely. I just approached you here since I noticed you're my neighbor, for a particular sense of the word, your cell is right next to mine, my name's Ikem thought I should explain some things to you while I wait for the gruel to cool, they always served the first batch hotter than fire flakes" The man continued speaking at a fast pace which was mildly amusing.
"If you have any tips for the newbie I wouldn't mind"
Far be it for me to give up easy info when I'm currently stuck in this shithole with no idea of what's going outside.
"Well first things first…"
Ikem rambled on for a few minutes, some stuff made little sense to me but I think I managed to pick up the most important bits.
Mainly two things, don't talk about the war unless you're certain only people that think as you do are around, there are war prisoners from the Earth Kingdom here but there are also a lot of Fire Nation inmates, thieves, or even killers. just because they are in jail doesn't mean they have no national pride and things could get ugly.
Secondly, don't bend, the Boiling Rock has a zero tolerance policy about bending, to the point that even if you get attacked by another bender you will get punished if you use your own bending to protect yourself. Of course, a lot of people decided that being put in the cooler is worth not getting burned.
"Luckily for me, I'm no firebender" I claimed, at least as far as I knew I certainly don't feel different in that regard.
"What?" The man asked with complete disbelief "Huh I thought for sure you were one gulping down that almost boiling soup, I have seen a few firebenders drinking tea straight from the boiling kettle before" He said with a puzzled expression.
"Soup must not have been that hot for me, probably an old batch" I said with a shrug getting up with my bowl and wooden spoon to return to the kitchen. Looking around I noticed that the number of guards around the cafeteria was particularly heavy. It kept things easier to handle most likely.
There was a guard with a tray to leave used utensils and bowls in, the same way a guard walked into the cafeteria with a pot of food. That left the kitchens missing, I felt the impulse to curse whoever made such shitty soup which is probably why they didn't let the prisoners see them, I was already dreading eating it again.
Fuck do prisons have a way of lowering morale.
"Prisoners are not allowed to stay after they finish eating go back to your cell" A guard told me with a yawn though he visibly didn't give much of a shit at all about what I did, I simply nodded.
Taking a tiny risk I took the slightly scenic route, my cell was three floors up from the Cafeteria so I took the chance to walk around the halls, there were a lot more guards than expected, and every floor had around three patrolling around. That still meant that prisoners outnumbered the guard by a significant amount but fire and steel are great equalizers.
The prison looked surprisingly modern there were lots of tubes going up the ceiling and I remember how my door opened without anyone touching it, that did seem to be the Fire Nation's main trait, they seemed well on their way to an Industrial Revolution, I mean they had tanks and artificial lighting, but at the same time they still used catapults it was weird.
Finally reaching my cell, I noticed a guard hanging back looking at me and making sure that I went in, even if I went running where the hell would I go to? Even if I managed to avoid all the guards and reach the gondola system that still depends on the guards not pulling the lever that would force it to go back, and then I would probably be thrown into the boiling river or something.
Sighing I went inside my cell room and dropped on the hard steel 'bed' more like a thin slab of steel nailed against the wall with the help of some chains, not long after my head touched the metal my door closed with the same mechanical sound diminishing the light considerably.
"Okay this is bad, you have a new name and you're in prison, just have to keep your head down" I whispered to myself "Don't mess with anyone too dangerous or get in the middle of whatever Earth versus Fire nation mess going on here, should be easy enough"
…I really could use a nap right about now, I'm sure I will think of something to do when I wake up.
I'm so fucking bored, only two weeks but they have felt like two months, doing nothing but eating horrible food and staying in my cell bored out of my mind, well not exactly I have been doing some exercise push-ups, sit-ups, and squats, the helped pass the time and tire me up to sleep easier.
I did try to test if I was a bender but got no results from punching the air and thinking fiery thoughts and my attempts to see if I could bend the disgusting soup made me feel like a dumbass. I remember something like Chi being important in the series but I was not a particularly spiritual individual. Before this whole thing happened I had held the belief that there was no such a thing as life after death, not that I know for sure that I died. I just woke up on a Fire Nation ship one day.
Besides if this is supposedly my reincarnation after death then I sure as fuck had some horrible karma, the worst I had done was beat a guy up and it wasn't like he hadn't deserved it, maybe I had been too greedy? I didn't care enough about nature perhaps. Who knows? Definitely not me, I don't even know what crime I supposedly committed to deserve the most secure prison in Fire Nation history.
Thankfully, the Warden decided that today the prisoners got to go outside to the yard, I had only spoken to Ikem once after our first talk, he had talked some about his hometown and how it had the best spicy fried dumplings in the Fire Nation but he had also mentioned how Lockdown worked around the Boiling Rock. Prisoners get out when the Warden says so, that is it, could be weeks could be days, apparently one week the Warden was in a good mood and allowed prisoners to go to the yard every day.
According to Ikem the Warden liked to play with the prisoners' limited freedom making it seems like a privilege that they got to spend some time outside of their metal boxes, what an asshole.
Then again I'm not surprised most people that want jobs that put them in a position of unjust authority over their fellow men tended to be assholes. Like school principals with children or traffic policemen with tickets.
Feeling the natural sun after two weeks was amazing, luckily the sky was mostly clear of clouds which meant that I get to see the blue sky in all its glory, beautiful. I was surprised by the fact that the yard's floor was made of stone arranged with brown and white variations in the shape of the Fire Nation insignia, wouldn't an Earthbender be able to use something like this?
Looking for Ikem got a quick result he was easy to spot being quite tall, probably reaching 1,90 meters, there were a few prisoners that were near him in height but they were all considerably more muscular.
"Tai Lung! Good to see you, first time in the Yard right? Well savor the sun while you can we tend to get a few hours here" He explained with a smile, he seemed like the optimistic sort, surprised prison didn't crush that out of him.
"Here you gotta meet some of my friends here is Chit Sang, don't let the guards see you too often with him or you will get into trouble" He said with a smirk getting smacked on the back by a slightly shorter but considerably broader man.
"I resent that comment…but it's true" Chit Sang said shrugging his shoulders "Guards don't seem to like me much I think they are jealous of my looks" he said in a way that seemed completely serious.
"Makes sense" I said with a shrug, the rest of Ikem's friends introduced themselves they all looked like they were from the Fire Nation.
"So what can you tell me about the people around the yard" I asked with curiosity hand rubbing my face and feeling the steadily growing beard, depressingly I had no clue what was my current age but from the time I got to make use of the latrine and bath (surprisingly better than I expected in both accounts) and check my face in the mirror I couldn't be younger than 25 probably a bit older but not by much. Then again not everyone looks their age, could be someone young that matured early or someone that has aged gracefully.
"Want to know all the popular kids huh? Bring me back to my time at the Fire Capital School for Monstrous Children" Ikem said with a nostalgic sigh getting looks from the crowd. Noticing the stares the tall man coughed with a small blush.
"What can I say my cousin was an alumnus and they gave my family a great discount"
"Anyway enough about me, you wanted to know who to look at here right? Well, let's begin with who you don't want to cross, which are a lot of people actually" He stated with a shrug.
"Most people in the Boiling Rock don't care about much of anything outside of finishing their sentence, there are a lot of people here for life but there are also some Fire Nation robbers and the like that actually have a chance at a normal life after this place, you can consider them a nonfactor for the most part you don't mess with them too much and they won't even notice you exist" He started hooking an arm around my shoulders and whispering at me pointing at some of the prisoners.
"Then come the more dangerous guys, the soldiers that were too brutal even for the Fire Nation, those who have cheated on an Agni Kai or pirates that had the dim idea of trying to raid Fire Nation ships, you don't want to get mixed up with those they are likely to sell out their own mother let alone you"
It took me a moment to remember what an Agni Kai was, I recall that Azula and Zuko had one at the end of the series and that Zuko had one before then, maybe? It seemed culturally important at least.
"Has anyone ever challenged a guard to an Agni Kai?" I asked curiously it seemed inevitable.
"A few times, but the guards never accept. Not only does it go against the prison rules, but an Agni Kai is a duel for honor and there's no honor in beating a captured criminal in a duel so why risk it? Now don't let the guards hear you saying something like that or they will take it as a challenge" Ikem explained with a serious expression.
"Hey, doesn't really matter to me, not a firebender remember, at least I don't think so" I said with both my hands up in the air getting a dubious look from the friendly inmate.
"Sure, sure, since you aren't a firebender then I will have to explain this one to you purely to satisfy your curiosity, don't mess with old man Zhang" He said with a sarcastic tone.
"Who?"
Subtly pointing at a group in the yard on the far corner I was barely able to see who he was talking about standing together in a circle with the three men standing guard protectively against them, all looking suspiciously out towards the yard.
"They are all Earth Nation war prisoners, they normally like to separate the normal soldiers from the lieutenants so none of them worked in the same division before getting dropped here, the old man is their leader, a General apparently, he is a menace I once saw him kick a man ten feet up in the air there's a rumor that he's half ostrich horse!" Ikem shout-whispered making me look at him like he was an idiot.
Also what the fuck is an ostrich horse?
"He also hates anyone from the Fire Nation" Chit Sang commented while rubbing his ribs that seemed like a story waiting to be told.
"How long has he been here?" I asked the beginning of an idea forming in my head, it wasn't my original plan but two weeks of nothing but metal walls had eroded my patience a considerable amount.
"Which of them?" Ikem asked before shaking his head "No one has been here for too long the prison is new, just a couple years old, state of the art they call it, Zhang must have arrived three months ago apparently he got captured near one of the Fire Nation's colonies apparently it was a massacre but good luck getting him talking about that"
The comment shook some dust from some of my memories the Fire Nation had some cities in the Earth Kingdom or something of the sort trying to take a foothold in the continent most likely, it would make the campaigning much easier in a dozen different ways.
"That isn't important though, just don't mess with the old man, or talk to him, actually it would be best if you tried not to breathe the same air as h-WHERE ARE YOU GOING!?"
I turned back to wave Ikem's concerns away already walking in the direction of the Earth Kingdom general.
"Don't worry, just gotta ask him some questions" I casually said before continuing my march forward, the yard was very big, which meant that there was a lot of empty space between groups. I reached the group of Earth Nation soldiers in no time and almost instantly glared.
I felt a sliver of doubt about my plan when one of them nudged the rest of the group in my direction, one of the biggest men I had ever seen walking forward to meet me, the bald man was even taller than Ikem and had the physique of a powerlifter. He walked right in front of me and glared down at me with an intense look I was barely chest height with him.
"What you want" He growled out spiting to the side, his voice as deep as one would expect.
"One talk with the General please" I answered with a winning smile both my hands up in the air, I didn't think they were the truly violent kind, they weren't actual criminals at least, they were captured soldiers.
"Hhm…are you Fire Nation?" He asked with a musing tone, making me blink.
"My big friend, I can swear with the utmost sincerity that I have never stepped a foot on Fire Nation land, and none of my parents were Fire Nation" The same was true for the Earth Kingdom but I didn't think admitting that would be wise. Well technically speaking the parents of this body could be from either nation but I prefer to keep those thoughts off my mind they only helped to ruin my mood while in my cell.
"Well I suppose it's alright then, but no funny business" The giant of a man said after rubbing his chin and shrugging.
"I will make sure my business remains as unfunny as I can manage" I said keeping the smile as I was guided into the group most of the men stared with less suspicion now.
"Lao who is this?" An average looking but muscular man with a deep scar on the side of his head said, sitting on a flat rock that was elevated from the ground, most of the yard was flat but there were a couple of stones to sit on, which just made the whole earthbender thing more puzzling, they were literally sitting on what to them was a pile of ammunition.
My escort stopped in his tracks, humming for a while before looking at me.
"What was your name?" He asked, receiving a chorus of groans from the men and women around him.
"Spirits dammit Lao! You're supposed to check their rank before bringing them here, they could be Fire Nation spies, or just someone wanting trouble.
"Hello, my name is Tai Lung, and I have no rank never been part of the army, I just came here to talk with the General" I said, I thought about maybe lying but there was no way I could be convincing about it I had no clue how the Earth Kingdom's military was composed and if I get discovered then they would probably be pissed.
Even with my honesty I saw the soldiers tense, if they still had their weapons I'm sure they would be pointing me at them.
"Heh, let the boy pass, look at you all you're more wound up than a Buzzard Wasp over one young man!" A calm voice said I had been keeping an eye on him, he was thinner than the rest of his men and he was balding with grey hair. I could tell he wasn't frail though while not as big as the rest of the soldiers the man still had some muscle to him.
"But Sir what if-" The man that had scolded Lao tried to say but he was cut off with the one raised hand.
"I'm not senile yet, I would like to think that so many experience soldiers and myself could handle one curious young man?" He asked getting a reluctant nod.
"Now Tai Lung why don't you sit and we talk"
The soldiers shuffled slightly to give us some space I sat on the ground while he remained on the raised stone, which meant that I was looking up at him, this angle allowed me to see a couple of interesting things, like the dark red burn scar on the old man's neck as well as the tattoos running down both his forearms.
"So you came to talk with an old man like me, I doubt you're Fire Nation those tend to be more nervous around us, with good reason. Why don't you tell me what you're in for kid?" Zhang said flexing his back and causing loud cracking sounds.
I'm honestly surprised it had taken this long for someone to ask me what I did to earn a spot in the Boiling Rock, Ikem seemed perfectly happy to not touch the subject and I hadn't interacted with a lot of people besides that. As always I believed that mixing the truth with the lie or just omitting information was best.
"I have no clue, I just woke up chained to a Fire Nation vessel, I don't even remember being captured, just one day life is normal and the next I'm stuck here, and something tells me that guard won't think I'm innocent if I shout it at them" I ranted with genuine anger and resentment, everything I said was technically true, as were my emotions of the situation. I may refuse to turn into a sobbing mess at the cosmic injustice but that doesn't mean that I'm not furious even if I don't show it to other people.
Mom did always say that I bottled my emotions too much now that I think about it.
"That's just messed up" One of the men said the rest of the group nodding along.
"What else can you expect from the Fire Nation, they don't even bother with an excuse to put people in jail now!" The man with the scar on his face…Scarface said with a glare "How long before they are dragging our wives and children are dragged in chains into a dark hole"
"Well I'm not in any good mood about it, if I ever get a chance I will wrap my hands around that bastard Fire Lord's neck" I spat out feeling the violent energy in the air, it felt good to have someone to blame for this whole thing.
Fuck Ozai, me and all my friend hate that motherfucker!
"I can cheer to that!" Scarface said getting chuckles from all the soldiers.
"I'm really sorry to hear that kid" Zhang said with a sigh "What did you want to know?"
"Well if you have some tips to share with a new inmate then I would be all ears, I have stayed out of trouble so far but you never know when a guard could want trouble" I said with a serious expression, it hadn't happened to me yet but I had seen it happen a couple of times to other prisoners, mainly verbal harassment but I saw a dude get kicked in the balls for snarking the guards.
"Mhm, there's only so much you can do I'm afraid eventually a guard will want to test you"
"Test me?" I asked with some confusion though I did have an idea of what he meant.
"To see if you're an easy target, the same goes for other prisoners though the guards are actually quite active at stopping fights, if you do nothing while they harass you they will just do it more, but if you react too much they will taunt just to get you in trouble, the decks are stacked against you at any rate" Scarface explained making me groan, that sounded extremely annoying.
"So what? I'm supposed to punch them?"
"Yes" Multiple people said at once the giant Lao Ge adding a big smile and a thumbs up.
"It is a shame about the circumstances but a couple of days in solitary confinement is preferable to being one of the guards chewing toys" Zhang said with a tired sigh leaving things in a slightly somber mood. "Just don't take things too far, you're supposed to fight back not beat up the guard"
"I will make sure to not do anything rash" Not that I pictured that my chances going against a man in metal armor that could probably throw fire were good at all.
"There were some other things I wanted to ask, about the War with the Fire Nationa actually" I needed to know how things were outside, was Aang already out there fighting against Tyranny? The idea that Aang was still in the Iceberg was a very real source of anxiety for me. That could mean upwards of a year in this hellhole.
"Where I used to live we didn't get any information at all about the War, how are things going?" I finally asked knowing this could be a sore spot but I needed to know, my desire to know what was going on would have gotten to me eventually better to just bite the bullet and ask now.
"Mhm, from one of the villages are you? Well as of three months ago things were as normal, at least as far as war is concerned, the Fire Nation has established a few more colonies near up north but they have stayed well away from Omashu and haven't tried anything on Ba Sing Se since the Dragon of West run away so many years ago, I have heard some rumors of Fire Nation movements near Western Earth Kingdom but nothing substantial and they may be outdated at this point, besides General Fong can handle himself"
Now, where did that put me? Probably near the beginning of the series, there was one important question to ask, one that felt actually difficult to push out with its implications.
"What about the Avatar?" I asked sounding desperate even to my own years.
"If you're hoping for some miracle news then I'm sorry to disappoint, no one has seen the Avatar, they are still missing no one has seen them in almost 100 years"
Well…fuck, I'm before the beginning. This meant that I could be waiting YEARS before something as convenient as Sokka appearing with an escape plan to bust me out happened.
"I see" I breathe out with a hand on my forehead, I felt almost sick but I swallowed my anxiety and straightened my back looking Zhang in the eye.
"Thank you very much for the information General, it's appreciated"
"None of that boy, I can tell you have been through a lot and a friendly face can be priceless sometimes" The old earthbender put a friendly hand on my left shoulder, I could see some burn scars on his arm. It felt almost grandfatherly.
"Now how about you stay here for the time we have at the yard, I'm sure the boys and girls would enjoy having someone to tell their stories to, someone that hasn't already heard them 100 times" I shared the chuckle and settled back.
I was interested in what they would say, and it gave me the opportunity to ask them about earthbending later. With all due respect to Sokka, I would much rather be one of the people that can bend the elements than not. Punching the air angrily didn't get any fire and trying pushing and pulling motions with my soup didn't work at all. That left two elements left and the chances of being an airbender were so slim as to be fantasy.
To be honest I would prefer being an earthbender to anything else, though waterbending was alluring. At the end of the day the image of King Bumi and Toph throwing boulders around called to me more as well as the defensive uses of earth.
Thinking about Toph made me look around the yard and at the prison itself the high walls of metal that must have been five stories tall, there was potential to earthbending.
Now if only I had a clue on how to bend any element, something tells me that even if I'm capable of it then the whole thing would be harder than I was picturing.
Well, I do love a challenge, and nothing is quite as motivating as losing freedom.
I have returned, with a new fic . An Avatar the last airbender fic in which the MC experiences the ultimate isekai fantasy…being thrown into a maximum security prison! This MC is an earhtbender with all that entails as well as what part of what life in prison entails, partially at least, the Boiling Rock isn't a normal prison after all more of a place to hold enemies of the state as well as regular criminals, if you have any bending ideas feel free to share
