It returned to its room. The centre of a vast library radiating outwards unto eternity. Each infinite shelf housing books of all shapes, sizes and colours, some known only to dolphins.
A shade, a great figure cloaked in grey mist, reached its arm in through an archway opening. On a small table in the centre of the room they left a leatherbound book before returning to there duties.
It took the form of a child, just old enough to sit at the table and read comfortably. So it did, opening the book and beginning to read. This one was about a life lived in a world with long history, a world only a remnant of what it once was.
I felt pain across my whole body, inside and out. Everything hurt, not a dull throbbing kind of pain, or a sharp sting, or a burn or cut or scrape or any other describable feeling. It was just, simply pain. And every second it grew stronger, until my mind dipped in and out of consciousness.
I tried to flail, I tried to open my eyes. But all I found was nothing. I was suspended, complete darkness. Though the uncountable flow of time ebbed forward and slowly, as if over many days, the pain lessened, until I felt something new.
Light, my eyes finally found light. I urged myself forward, hearing mumbled shouts from above. They where distorted, like heard from the inside of a fishbowl. Fish? A large one swam beside me, I was in water? It did feel like that, now that I could feel at all.
An arm plunged towards me, gripping the collar of my shirt, and pulled.
Jackl. A taller boy, with clothing that could most easily be described as, edge-lord. A shirt, thick hiker boots, a long, black, cloth and leather trench coat, denim jeans and most importantly, a seemingly impractical number of spikes.
Other than black, there where strips of red here and there, with a crimson glyph emblazoned on his back. The glyph itself was similar in structure to a fractal; a square centred within a circle, with lines connecting them.
Currently, he was wandering the coast of Vale, specifically the shore of the emerald forest. He didn't really have an objective or destination, he just liked the scenery, and the grimm that would pop up from time to time.
Speaking of grimm, a beowulf charged from the treeline. Spinning on a dime, he drew his weapon. The deep crimson head of the weapon swung, severing the connection between the grimm's torso and head. Jackl soon found several more headed his way.
He pulled the axe's trigger, the shotgun portion firing into action and launching him into the air. Then, using the resulting height as added leverage, he landed in an arc with his weapon cleaving one of them in half and embedding itself into the ground. A slightly larger, more menacing, beowulf swung its claws towards him, only to meet a crimson glyph.
Drawing his short sword, the bottom of the axe acting like a scabbard, he slashed upwards through his glyph. With a pulse of red, the glyph burst, adding the force of the beowulf's attack to his own.
He conjured two more glyphs, one on his axe and the other on a tree between the other grimm. They spun, shifting colour to a deep purple. The last few grimm where taken care of, when the axe dislodged and flew through them into the tree.
After gathering his things and sheathing his weapons, he returned to his walk. After a few minutes further onward, he heard something large and heavy fall into water. Turning just in time to see someone just below the surface, clearly confused and disorientated, he ran towards them. With a glyph for both keeping himself afloat and solid ground, he gripped their collar and pulled.
Where am I? the first thaught through my head, the second, Where are my clothes? I was laying in a bed, wearing pajamas that where a size too large for me. Sitting up, I was greeted to wooden flooring and walls. The deep crimson carpet covering the floor provided the only colour aside wood. The door opened, "Oh, your awake. How are you feeling?" the man was exceedingly tall, though that wasn't factoring in his antlers, which caused him to almost bend over to get through the door.
"Where am I?" the man chuckled "That would be my house. I'm Hyde, my son found you a few hours ago." that didn't really explain much, but a name was good at least, "Ok, Mr.Hyde, could you tell me where exactly, your house is?" that caused him to laugh, "Good question, it's located on an island of the coast of Vale called Patch." Ok, I have no idea where either of those places are. On second thaught I have no idea where anywhere is. "You... Have no idea where that is do you." I simply nodded.
Heaving a large sigh he continued, "Here put on these and we can have a more indepth conversation during breakfast." He left, leaving clothes as he went.
A simple red t-shirt, emblasened along the back with the same symbol as the carpet, alongside black jeans and combat boots. I saw another door from the one Mr. Hyde went through, it led to a small toilet. I glanced in the mirror and froze, I was... Terrifying. Aside the clothes, which are relatively normal, everything else exedingly abnormal, at least from my admittedly limited understanding.
My skin's white, like literally white with my hair the complete opposite. Pitch black and reaching down to my heart, each movement leaving a trail of even darker fog. My eyes where not spared, each one scarlet gemstones set unto an abyss. In short, I fit the description I was just given of grimm from Mr. Hyde.
I quickly left the room, moving as far as I could from the mirror. By the time I realised it I tripped over my own two feet and fell face first into someone, "Ya all right?" I felt a firm grip on my shoulders, "Whats your name?" my name? Do I have a name? "Onyx?" That feels right. The boy cackled, "When dad said you didn't have any memories he really meant it. I'm Jackl." I took a step back, my confusion replacing my prior panic. "Your the one who found me?" he gave a manic grin, "Yep! It's nice to meechya."
I spent the next few days with the Hydes. Theyre an interesting bunch. From what I've learned, they own or hold shares in most of the medical and pharmaceutical companies in Vale, Mr. Hyde actually being a Dr. Hyde. They live on an estate in patch, an island of the coast of Vale. Vale being one of four capitals in Remnant.
Then there's Jackl, my first friend. Though consistent annoyance is more accurate. He looks like a quiet, reserved, and stereotypical teenager. He isn't. He's actually the opposite, the only thing stopping him from blowing stuff up being his father and a lack of ammunition.
Currently where having a sparing match. We've been having them regularly since a grimm snuck into the estate and we descovered I could fight. To be honest I find them quite fun. Though, I still loose every time.
"Hey, Onyx, what do you say about going to signal with me. It'll be fun!" the question stuck in my head, they'd mentioned me becoming a huntsman but, I'm still getting over the fact I share an uncanny resemblance to grimm. "erm... If you think its a good idea." Jackl gave a manic cackle. "This is gonna be so fun!"
