A man that stood at 5'9 stepped into a bar, he waved his hand towards the bartender. "Hello, it's nice to meet you." He spoke Japanese but in an American accent and the Japanese was broken at best. The bartender looked up at him and asked a question the man simply did not understand and the man responded "Cathala ''.
The Bartender nods, seeming to understand what he means. The Bartender exhales and walks over to the beer tap behind him and pulls on the lever for Asashi twice and Sapporo 4 Times in quick succession.
A mechanism on the floor slowly opened revealing a wooden staircase underneath. The bartender urged the man to enter.
The man took out 500 Yen and placed it in front of the bartender. The bartender looked curious at the gesture but took the Yen.
The man descended down the wooden staircase into this small gambling parlor. The room was not large but felt extravagant. A pool table rested against a wall, a shelf in the back housed alcohol and wine. In the center of the room was an ornately made poker table with one seat at the end.
Standing behind the table was a woman in a red dress with golden accents. She looked at the man who entered. "And I presume your Davis Smith?"
The woman speaks perfect English and the man seems slightly off put by the mention of his full name but he nods. The lady smiles, "Well I'm sure you know the deal. I've heard you came here because you think you can bend fate? You think luck bends to you?"
Davis gives a grin back. "Of course I do sweetheart."
She laughs "So then you know how this game is to go. It's not rigged and there simply are no chips. You gamble everything at this table. Your home, yourself, your family."
Davis's smile fades as he begins to remember what he's here to do. The lady takes a seat at the table and begins shuffling her cards.
Davis watches her shuffle while checking up his sleeve for a moment before the cards are dealt in front of him. The lady first placed down the face up cards on both sides.
On Davis's side she places a 6 of Clubs and on her side a 3 of Hearts. Davis then gets a facedown card, he picks it up and takes a quick glance. A 4 of Spades total 10. The Lady checks her facedown card and looks sternly at Davis. Davis asks "Can we double?" The lady looks at him "I suppose, it also means you'd be putting up your life and someone else's." Davis confidently says. "I'll bet my life and my girlfriend's for the double."
The Lady gives a devilish grin taking out a card and placing it on the table in front of him. Davis picks it up and looks at her. "That's 21 I win." The lady then flips over her facedown revealing the ace of spades. The Lady Irately said "You know, you're the first to ever win in this game against me. In fact, the game itself is rigged. I dealt you a 7 of Spades not an Ace of hearts. You cheated." The lady seems Choleric. Davis stands up from his chair keeping a straight face "Do you really think I would cheat? I'm a professional gambler?" The Lady reaches down to her thigh pulling out a pistol, the Minnies P9. Davis quickly tries to turn tail and run back up the stairs but the man is not faster than a bullet. His last words being "What's wrong with you! You Psycho Bitch!" Then he felt a sharp pain enter his back and he continued to try to get up the stairs but it was a futile attempt. He fell face first onto the stairs with a bullet wound in his back.
He closed his eyes as the lady stood over him taking her second shot. An intense headache washed over him. He saw darkness and nothing but, It was like sleeping without a dream. It was hard for him to tell if this went on for a moment or an eternity so goes the absence of things. Then he woke up, not in a hospital bed or in front of a pearly gate or not in front of the Gates of hell. He woke up on a hard marble floor, sunlight piercing the room and an unfamiliar scent. The air was unfamiliar to Davis too. He sat up and rubbed his eyes, getting a better look at his surroundings. It was some kind of large chapel. Religious figures resided on stained glass around the room. He took note of what they looked like to try to understand where he was and what religion he may be dealing with.
On one stained glass window above the entrance was an image of a man wielding a Glaive, to their left side was an image of a crossbow and to their right was the image of a flag. All adorned in beautiful stained glass. He could tell by how the light was piercing him that there was a stained glass image behind him. He stood up to check what it was only to be greeted by a man he didn't even notice was standing next to him. "Hello brave Deck Hero welcome to the humble country of Santirium." Davis eyed the man up and down, he saw the man wore a red robe with golden accents. He looked like a priest that you'd see in a video game.
Davis then responds, "So they say when you die right e bunch of LSD gets pumped into your brain is this that?" The Priest is taken aback. "Sir Hero what is LSD?" Davis laughs to himself. "Okay I'd like to go to the afterlife now. Have a good day" The Priest then explains. "No, no sir Hero we've summoned you to this world so you can help us fight against the waves of calamity." Davis sighs he'll play into the delusion for now. "Alright your Holiness what's a wave of calamity?" The Priest is surprised with the use of honorifics but remains stone faced keeping his composure. "There's no need for Honorifics sir hero, my name is Aurin." Aurin then pulls back his cloak revealing his lionlike head to Davis. "Wha… who wha why do you, are you some kind of Furry?" Aurin thinks for a moment. "Yes I have fur but, I do not believe I've ever heard that exact descriptor?" Davis sits back down and in a calm yet exasperated voice says "Shut up, don't talk to me until I tell you to. I need some time to think."
