The story of the Princess Of Clarines
Hey guys, I'm deleting my old story and rewriting it; I'm putting more ideas into the novel and trying to make it longer. I'm also changing some names so people that read the old version will know the changes. Don't worry; I saved the other chapter onto my computer and will work on it soon. I'm trying to put a backstory of Shirayuki, so I hope you like the new and approved story.
Thank you for clicking on this story :)
Chapter one
Here I go again, lesson after lesson, every day for the past couple of months; I've been running around the castle learning how to be a proper princess for the kingdom of Clarines and how they perform their royal responsibility, such as attending meetings and royal events related to the aristocracy. It's not easy to learn the ways of the royal family; there are many rules that royals have to follow within the monarch, but I will get to that later. Before I get too far into this story, let me properly introduce myself, my name is Shirayuki; I will soon be Shirayuki Wisteria. That's correct. I'm getting married to my best friend and the man I love from the bottom of my heart; The second Prince Zen Wisteria.
I wasn't lying when I said that the regulation wasn't accessible; there are many rules and protocols within the monarch that I need to understand and follow before marrying into the royal family. Since Zen and I got engaged, it took a lot of work for us to travel together. It's one of the rules that a husband and wife can't travel together just in case something happens. There is one specific rule when a non-royalty marries into the nobility; they must stand or walk a few feet behind their spouse at all times, but sometimes Zen purposely stands right next to me and even holds my hand a couple of times at a royal event. Zen didn't care for this rule; he thought it was a stupid one from the beginning.
Of course, I got an earful from Suzuki-san about my behavior at a royal event. Nonetheless, Zen also got his lecture from Lord Haruka, which went south quickly. If you were wondering who Suzuki-san is, she is one of my lesson teachers, and she doesn't care for me very well because she keeps reminding me about my status. The truth is I wasn't born into any royal or high-class family; I was born and raised in the neighboring kingdom of Tanbarun. Before I was born, my father was originally a noble to the west of Tanbarun. He soon fell in love with a beautiful maiden, my mother, but one day; her family sent her away to be married to my father's uncle. My father stole her back and exiled him from the family along with my mother. They travel for quite some time until the lion of the mountain kindly takes them in and treats them like family.
A few years later, my father became the leader of the lion of the mountain, and they were finally expecting their first child, which was me. The village's people arise, filled with joy and excitement about the new arrival. Still, they never thought the happy memories and time they spent would come to an end. A few days after I was born, my mother got very sick from a deadly illness that spread like wildfire across the kingdom. My mom fought to stay alive, but in the end, her body was too weak to endure the disease. She passed away when I was only two weeks old, leaving my father and me alone in this world by ourselves.
A month after my mom passed away, my father thought raising me in the mountain wasn't a good idea. It wasn't a safe place for a little girl, so he sent me to live with my grandparents, who were my mother's parents, in the capital of Tanbarun when I was only a month old. My grandparents taught me about herbs and medicine when I was five years old, and that is how I started studying and learning about new kinds of plants, but sadly, they passed away when I was seven years old. A kind couple kindly took me in and raised me until I was old enough to move back into my grandparent's old house and open a small herb shop in the village.
When I was 18, my bright hair caught somebody's unwanted attention, who wanted me as his concubine, the first prince of Tanbarun, Raji Shenazard. Instead of obeying his order, I chopped a piece of my hair off and left it behind. I fled my homeland and eventually ended up in Clarines, where I met Zen and his two aides, Kiki and Mitsuhide, in the forest by the border of Tanbarun. When I first met Zen, I thought he was a country boy traveling with his friend until he confronted Raji that he was the second Prince of Clarines. Zen kindly help me to escape from Prince Raji, where I start a new life in Clarines with Zen; this is how our love story begins.
Let me take you to the beginning; it was a beautiful morning. The sun has risen in the east, shining across the beautiful land of Clarines. A beautiful pigeon flaps his wings through the cotton candy sky with only a few rainbow clouds floating above a magnificent palace surrounded by a tall brick wall with guards from top to bottom watching for intruders and protecting the royal family. The beam of light peeked through a stained glass window where I was asleep under my cozy blanket and washed over my sleepy face waking me up from a delightful dream.
I let out a soft moan and pulled the blanket over my head to black out the bright light coming through my bedroom window. Last night I forgot to close the curtain after my lesson with Suzuki-san, but I don't want to attend my class today because I know I will get another lecture from Suzuki-san. I'm only doing this because I want to continue standing next to Zen as his wife. I sat up in my queen size bed, letting out a yawn and stretching my arms over my head. I ran my finger through my hair when something glimmered in the corner of my eyes. I looked down at my ring finger and noticed it was my engagement ring. A small smile formed on my face when I remembered the day; Zen proposed to me almost a year ago; it was in the middle of the castle courtyard under the cherry blossom tree.
Of course, I immediately said 'yes' repeatedly with tears in my eyes and fell into his strong arms. The news about our engagement spread throughout the kingdom like wildfire. When they received the information, many were unhappy, primarily high-class family members. Many royal or high-class family members don't think a girl from another country should be married into a royal family. They believe it will be a disgrace. Some want Zen to marry their daughter to join the two kingdoms together. Zen had already decided and got permission from his brother, King Izana Wistaria, a long time ago, but he was waiting for the right time to ask. He once told me under the beautiful night sky that he would never change his mind no matter what came their way because Zen said to me that I saw him as a person and not a prince, and maybe that is why he fell in love with me in the first place.
Suddenly there was a knock on my door, snapping me out of my thoughts. I pulled the blanket off my body and stood up from my bed. I walked over to the door, still wearing my nightgown, but answered it anyway. When I opened the door, I saw one of my maids, Ella Wood, standing in front of my door. Zen had assigned her and three others to me shortly after asking me to marry him. Ella was different from the other people in this castle. Like for example, my lesson teacher, who was a total nightmare. "My Lady," She said formally. "You are going to be late for your lesson again with Suzuki-san," Ella mentioned, looking at me and saying I was still wearing my pajamas. She pushed me back into my bedroom and closed the door behind her. All I could think at that moment was Sukuki's-san voice echoing in my head, 'Princess is never late; they are always on time.' It started to drive me insane. *Rolling my eyes*
A few minutes later, I walked down the hallway, making a loud echo sound because of the high-heel shoes I hate wearing; I prefer to wear my boots and a simple dress a lot better; I feel more like myself. Zen knows that I'm not a big fan of wearing expensive jewelry. He told them once before that I don't care for expensive things, but they don't listen to him as usual. If I had my way, the only jewelry I would wear would be my engagement ring.
I got to the giant double door with beautiful designs of entwining knots at the end of the hallway leading into a large room. The minute I opened the door, I could hear the sound of Suzuki's-san high heel tapping on the wooden floor, and her hand was on her hips. I could tell she was upset again, and I knew she would start yelling at me again. "Shirayuki-san, you are late again as the future Princess of Clarines. It would be best to take this more seriously the next time you are late. I will report this to King Izana about your behavior." Suzuki-san sneered, looking at me with narrow eyes. I'd heard those words so often I could have recited them with her, but I knew if I did, it would only upset her more. "SHIRAYUKI-SAN, ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?" She yelled, standing right in front of me. Oh my god, I can't stand her. *Rolling my eyes*
One day, I want to walk up to her, slap her across the face, and then tell her to shut the hell up, but as usual, a princess should never do anything improper like that. I'm only doing these lessons for Zen's sake because I love him, not her."I am listening, Suzuki-san," I answered with an attitude in my voice. I was standing straight because a princess should never slouch like the hunchback. I looked at her and saw her glaring at me about how I answered her. It was hard to shut her out of my head because she had a loudmouth.
"Maybe we should work on your manners," Suzuki-san said in a nasty tone.
Two hours later, a loud slap echoed throughout the room because she hit my hand with a golden ruler that hurt like a motherfucker and left a red mark on the top part of my hand. It's all because I picked up the wrong fork. "Shirayuki, you are not taking this seriously. I can't believe Zen chose you of all people," Suzuki-san said harshly. She pulled out her pocket watch and looked at the time. The look on her face means it is time for my next lesson. Thank God two hours were long enough because I don't know how much longer I can handle her abuse. "We will start here tomorrow," She said, walking away from me and leaving the room. I stood up from the chair and walked out of the room to head to my next lesson.
I was walking down the hallway to my next lesson, which was dancing. When I got to the ballroom, there was a person I wasn't expecting to appear in any of my classes, and it was my fiance, Zen, who was standing there next to my dance teacher, Reiko-san. He was wearing a blue Jacket with a golden belt around his waist and light blue, almost white pants with his blue boots. It was pretty much what he usually wore around the castle. I'm a little shocked to see Zen here. He is always busy with work, so I never thought he would have time to come to something like this. I'm a little nervous and wondering why Zen is here. 'Did Suzuki-san complain to him about me?' I thought to myself.
"Shirayuki-san, Prince Zen will be your dance partner today," Reiko-san said, looking at me. Zen walked up to me with a smile on his handsome face and held out his hand. Panic went through my body, hoping I don't step on Zen's foot like I always do with the dance teachers.
"May I have this dance, Shirayuki?" Zen asked, trying to act like a prince charming, and I think he nailed it just perfectly. I slightly nodded because I was too speechless to say anything and softly took Zen's hand. He wrapped one of his arms around my waist and the other, holding my right hand gently in his. I rest my other hand on top of his shoulder. "You look so beautiful this evening," He said, whispering in my ear, sending chills down my spine. He knows I'm not too fond of it when he does something like that, but he likes doing it to me anyway. I stared at our feet, trying not to step on Zen's feet. "Shirayuki, don't look down at the ground; instead, look up at me," Zen said, holding me closer, so our bodies were touching. I looked at Zen and stared into his baby blue eyes, glimmering brightly. Zen and I lost each other when our nose was about to touch each other before we could kiss. We heard a loud cough coming behind us and saw the dance teacher standing in front of a giant window with a lovely forest view.
"That will be enough for the rest of the day," Reiko-san said, walking out of the room, leaving Zen and me to ourselves.
Finally, my chance; I wrapped my arms around Zen's neck and pulled him in for a kiss, then the door flew open, making a loud sound. I pulled away before I could kiss Zen and look at who interrupted us; it was Mitsuhide standing at the doorway, looking at us. Oh Boy, I'm going to kill him sooner or later for interrupting us. Mitsuhide took a step back when he saw the look on my face. "Sorry, am I interrupting something?" Mitsuhide asked, a little bit scared of me right now.
"No, it's okay. Is there something that you need?" Zen asked, looking at Mitsuhide.
"There was a letter arrived today from your mother saying that she will be coming down in two weeks," Mitsuhide said, looking back at Zen. I had never met Zen's mother since I had been at the castle, but the rumors said she was the most beautiful woman in the kingdom.
"Okay, thank you. You may leave now," Zen said, watching Mitsuhide walk out of the room and close the door behind him. "Now, where were we?" Zen asked, pulling me closer to him and leaning down to kiss me, but the door flew open again, and this time it was Kiki, one of my best friends in the castle. She stood in the doorway, tapping her feet while looking at Zen with her hands on her hip. Zen put up his defense because he was slightly scared of Kiki for beating the crap out of him during practice.
"Zen, Shirayuki is late for her riding lesson," Kili said, narrowing her eyes at him. I let out a small sigh, just enough for Zen to hear me and wonder if I would ever kiss my future husband today.
"Okay, Kiki. She is all yours," Zen said, looking at Kiki with a scared look. "I will see you around, Shirayuki," he said, kissing the top of my forehead and walking out of the room, closing the door behind him. I frowned slightly because I wanted the kiss on my lips, not my forehead. *Rolling my eyes*
"Shirayuki, we need to get going," Kiki said, grabbing my arms and pulling me out of the ballroom and down the hallway toward the horse stable behind the castle. We walked down a brick path, passing a beautiful water fountain surrounded by different kinds of flowers in the middle of the sidewalk. Kiki went into the stable and returned with two horses, one was brown, and the other was black with white spots. (The black horse with the white spots is mine). Zen got me shortly after we are in engaged. I've been learning how to ride horses for the past couple of weeks now with Kiki. A guard was holding my horse while Kiki helped me onto Kumiko, which was my horse's name. After Kiki helped me get on my horse, she got on hers. "Okay, where do you want to go?" Kiki asked, looking at me with a smile.
"Is it okay for us to go into the forest?" I answer with a question, looking back at Kiki.
"It should be okay. The shoulder doesn't have training today," Kiki answered, kicking the side of her horse, and we trotted into the forest. In the woods, you can hear the sound of crickets chirping and the birds whistling high in the tree. The sunlight peeks through the tree branch making the scenery more beautiful with the light sparkling off the leaves. It was so peaceful here; no wonder Zen liked to escape from the palace to come out here. The first time I came out to the forest, I was trying to run away from Zen because he kissed me in the watchtower; it was our first kiss.
Suddenly, a snake slithered onto the path and scared my horse. "Woo," I said, trying to hold the rope tight. Kiki got off her horse as fast as possible to calm my horse down, but it was a little too late. I can't hold on any longer. I got thrown off my horse and landed on the ground, hitting my right arm on a rock. Kiki grabbed the rope around my horse's neck to calm him down. Kiki walked over to me and checked my right arm. It hurts when I move my arm. "Ow," I said, holding my sore arm.
"Let's get you back to the castle and have the chief look at your arm," she said, helping me to stand up, and we walked back to the castle. She handed the two horses to a man that was working in the horse stable, then helped me to the herbalist building.
