Season 3 – Episode 11 – "Class Action Satisfaction"
"Jane. Why have you never told me that you knew how to sew, and knit, and bead? I really would like you to teach me those." Maura asked Jane when they were alone.
Jane laughed.
"Maura, that was irony! Of course I have no clue on how to sew, how to knit, or how to bead! Alex, Susie's boyfriend who yawned seeing we both naked, would probably be better suited to teach you those."
Maura looked at Jane indignantly, opened her mouth in surprise.
"But why would you tease and mock me like that?"
"Oh, do you really need to ask? Teaching TJ how to fence… Fence, Maura! Fencing goes in the same category of sewing, knitting, and beading."
"What is that even supposed to mean?" Maura asked, confused.
"They are girly things." Jane stated.
"First of all, there are no such a thing as a girly thing. People attribute pre-conceived notions to activities that are not limited to one sex or another. It is sexist. And it is wrong."
"Yeah… the same things that made us suspect Alex was not into girls..." Jane mocked.
"And see how wrong we were!" Maura answered indignantly.
"I know! And Susie… I was surprised… Meeting him in a nudist retreat. Keeping a relationship with a coworker… Very secretive…" Jane added, in a gossiping tone.
"Well, he is not technically a coworker of hers." Maura explained.
"You know what I mean… It was juicy gossip!"
"I bet he found it juicier to see both of us naked."
"He was yawning, Maura! We apparently were not juicy enough for him. Didn't you feel even a little offended?"
"Med school is hard."
"So hard he didn't even had to bother hiding a hard on with two naked women in the same room as him? Hello!"
Maura laughed.
"He was politely out of sight, Jane. And we were being prude. He probably didn't even see us naked."
"I bet he did. And I bet he beats for the other team and Chang just didn't realize it. Yet."
"Well, if he does it is his problem. It might just be that if he is into nudism, the naked human form does not arouse him unless there is a context for arousal. And nothing changes the fact that he has a fantastic eye for couture. I was officially impressed."
"You should have asked Alex if he also knows fencing…" Jane teased.
"Jane! Come on… Besides, fencing is played by both men and women, you can even watch it on the Olympics."
"Okay, fair enough. No sewing, knitting, or beading for TJ, hmm-hmmm. Maybe fencing. Surely baseball and basketball."
"And will you let me be the one teaching fencing to him? Please?" Maura asked, clapping her hands excitedly.
"There would be no one else I would ever consider letting teaching him fencing but you." Jane answered, dramatically.
"Oh, thank you, Jane!"
Jane wished she could explain she was still being ironic, but decided to let it go. It was too much fun to play Maura, and in this case it was harmless.
"What about Stanley hiding the food?"
"It was unbelievable! And the nerve to sustain the lie all that time."
"Worse, I missed a golden opportunity! If we had searched him and found him with that food, we could have had arrested him for a few hours – at least until the empty cup with traces of the poison was found and we would be forced to release him."
Maura laughed.
"It would be good payback for the way he treated you back when you were undercover and I first met you."
Jane rolled her eyes. "If that was the only situation he was mean. But he is mean every day now, I don't know how people come back."
"Lack of alternatives? Convenience?"
"Possibly both." Both chuckled.
"Do you think Rene will really stop drinking?" Jane asked, a bit skeptical.
"The medicine she asked me a prescription for does help, if she takes it. So I really hope she stops. For TJ's sake, and for Tommy's sake too, you know. Being around people who drink too much is not a good idea for him."
"If she manages to stop drinking that is great for her sake too, to be honest. Korsak's first wife, Dana. Maybe they could have been happy if she was not a drinker and had not found someone else while Korsak was in Vietnam and they had only been together for three weeks. She turned her life around, maybe Rene can too."
"And TJ is soooo cute… And you know, you are really good with the baby, you really surprised me."
"When you are the oldest kid of a plumber and a housewife, your only source of extra money is doing some baby-sitting. I did a whole lot of it."
"Well, you could always have mowed lawns and washed cars."
"Yeah, those were Frankie's and Tommy's sources."
"TJ seems to be bringing a lot of positive change. He might have had a confusing start…"
"Confusing? I don't know where you take that idea from… Not knowing if the dad was Tommy or my dad was such a simple concept to grasp…" Jane said, ironically.
"And then being left at a door by his mother. And then being retrieved by his mother. And now this wonderful restart."
"I am not sure if I agree with the wonderful part. We are all making a huge effort to smooth out the edges, let's see how long it will all last."
"Or we can always fall back to the elephant's theory. We make a league of the women to raise TJ."
"Oh, it has to be a sturdy league. Raising a kid is a whole lot of responsibility… We only managed alternating shifts, and it was exhausting. I wonder how my mother managed with the three of us. I can bet my dad was not the type to help like Tommy at least tried to do." And then Jane softened. "But I don't think my mother would have it any other way."
"Well, I think that you will always find a way to keep TJ close. Rizzoli's blood thicker than water motto is strong."
"There are exceptions to the motto… At least one big exception… Where water talks way louder than blood with the Rizzoli's." Jane smiled gently at Maura, who smiled brightly back at her.
