In the town of Farway, 8 year old Basil Beauchêne walked out of his house, hid faithful Budew by his side. His Grandma called out to him.
"À plus tard! Soyez prudent! Et restez hors du bois !" She said. She was born and raised in Kalos, so she preferred to speak Kalosian when home, rather than Unovan.
"Ne t'inquiète pas, grand-mère ! Nous serons bien! Au revoir!" Basil said back before running off with Budew. He ran past Polly, his caretaker, as she tended to some flowers. He loved his small town. Basil wandered for a bit. He wasn't going to meet his friends today, but that was alright! Today was gonna be a Basil - Budew bonding day!
"Alright, Budew! Where should we go first?" Basil asked.
"Dew! Bud Budew!" Budew said, leading Basil into the woods. Not too deep though, what happened to Kel and Hero almost a year ago there was terrifying, even if Hero got a new Pokémon out of it. As he walked, he heard voices.
"Ugh, I don't need another egg!" A voice said.
"Just leave it here!" The other said. Basil heard them leave and went to investigate.
He looked on the ground and saw…a Pokémon egg! He looked at the abandoned egg. A memory resurfaced. His Grandma telling him why he doesn't have parents, and why she cries every year on the same day of the year. When Basil was 6 months old, his parents dropped off him off at his Grandma's. Then they went to a meeting, and died in a car crash on the way home.
Basil wasn't gonna let this little Pokémon be parentless like him. He picked up the egg and walked home.
When he reached home, he saw Polly.
"Back so soon, Basil? What do you have there?" She asked.
"It's a Pokémon egg! Some mean trainers abandoned it!" Basil said.
"OK, bring it inside" Polly said. Basil did as he was told. Polly brought one of those baby things were you can strap a baby to your chest.
"Here. Now you can carry it." She said. Basil put it on and put the egg in.
"When will it hatch?"
"You gotta keep it warm and walk with it!" Polly said. Basil ran outside to the garden.
"Look! These are my plants! They are precious to me! I love my plants!" Basil said as he showed the egg his plants.
"I'm gonna run around with you until you hatch! Then you can be my friend! And you can meet my other friends!" Basil said. He showed Budew the egg.
"Egg. Meet Budew." He said.
Then he ran to Polly.
"This is Polly! She is my caretaker!" Basil said. Basil began to run until he was tired. But the egg didn't hatch. He heard the doorbell ring. He opened it. He saw Sunny and Ralts, and Mari and Mewo.
"Hey Basil. Polly said you had- is that an egg?" She asked. Basil beamed.
"Yes! It'll grow big and strong like my plants. Egg, meet Mari. She's like my big sister."
"Hi egg!" Mari said
"And this is my best friend Sunny!" Basil said.
"Hi."
"How about we get some blankets and warm stuff? Warmth helps eggs hatch!" Polly said, entering the room. The kids cheered, as they ran to set up the blanket fort. Basil held the egg tightly. He slept with the egg that night, snuggling it to keep it warm.
The next day, he went to school. He took the egg with him. He saw his teacher, Mrs. Addle.
"Oh Basil! Is that a Pokémon egg?" She asked. Basil nodded.
"Yeah! And I'm gonna protect it! It was abandoned and alone…" he said, hugging the egg. At recess, some mean kids came.
"Aw, little Basil found another reject!" The mean kid said.
"HEY! Be nice to egg! It's just a baby!" Basil said, before a kid took Egg.
"EGG!" Basil cried as the kids tossed the egg around.
"STOP! YOU'LL HURT IT!" Basil yelled as the kids laughed and threw it further. Basil was angry. You can mess with him, but not his friends!
"BUDEW! USE VINE WHIP!" He yelled, as Budew caught the Egg midair and returned it to Basil!
"Now use RAZOR LEAF!" Basil cried as small leafs cut the bullies. It was just scratches, it didn't even hurt much, but they ran off. Basil held the egg and cried.
"Don't worry, I'll protect you…" Basil said. Aubrey ran over.
"Basil, what happened?" She asked. Basil explained everything.
"Oh their gonna get it! But first, WOW! Usually you let them walk all over you! Good on ya!" She said. Basil chuckled. Basil did get sent to the principals and suspended, but Polly gave him ice cream for being Protective of the egg. Basil squished a cone onto The egg to share it. That night, Basil introduced the egg to his grandma. She hugged the egg, and gave Basil a heating pad. That night, as he slept, he felt the egg move! He saw it glow and ran into his Grandma's room with it, calling for Polly.
"It's hatching!" Polly said. Pieces broke off, and Basil watched in wonder. Suddenly, there was a bright light. The egg was broken. And there was a Flabébé with a red flower. It looked confused and scared. It tried to crawl away, while crying.
"Hey, don't be scared!" Basil said. Instantly, it perked up. It recognized Basil's voice! It floated to his shoulder and gave him a hug.
"Bé! Flaaaaaaaaa" it cooed. Basil looked surprised. He held the tiny Pokémon. It was his. Budew came and Flabébé smiled. This was his new Pokémon. He loved it. He smiled. And cried.
"Flabébé! I love you! I'm gonna protect you forever and ever and EVER!" Basil yelled and he held his new Pokémon. It laughed. Polly laughed. Basil began to yawn. It was 2 am. He, Flabébé and Budew fell asleep. Polly picked up the trio and carried them to Basil's room, where she put them to bed. The Pokémon snuggled their trainer.
"...I'll…protect you…I'll protect…all my friends…no matter what…" Basil said in his sleep. The trio slept like Babies, happy and safe in each other's arms/vines…
