Why had she yelled at Toph? 'Of course I was mad but really? We have to stick together right now,' Katara thought guilty to herself. The Gaang had split up to cover more ground.
Katara was still nervous with their newest member, Zuko, searching with her brother. She had gone with Suki to search on the south side of the small town.
"Toph!" She called, not expecting a response, but was disappointed when of course none came. "Find anything Suki?" She called to the girl who was trying to find anything that marked their young friend was here.
"No, I'm sorry Katara." The Kyoshi Warrior responded, standing up from where she was looking in the bushes. It would sometimes surprise the Water Tribe girl to see her face without the classic Kyoshi face paint.
The shadows were beginning to get long but none the less Katara was determined to keep looking. "We should head back." Suki said. "But Toph-" Katara was cut off "We don't know if the others found her yet and we're the farthest away from the house." Suki reasoned, gently taking Katara's hand in hers, leading them back to the large house.
When they got back both Sokka and Zuko were sitting on one of the couches in the ring where the kids would have their discussion. When the two girls entered the room Zuko Stood up like a bolt of lightning.
"Did you find anything!" He practically shouted at them. "I'm Assuming you didn't!" Shot back Katara. "Didn't you two start getting along?" Sokka asked, unhelpful as always.
"I was just asking a question!" Zuko yelled, flinching a bit at his own words. "No, we didn't find anything your highness, I didn't mean to question you!" Katara spat.
The whole room went quiet. Both Sokka and Suki were staring at the two benders not wanting to get stuck in the crossfire.
There was a woosh of air and everyone rushed out to see aang. "Did you find anything?" Sokka said in a serious tone. "Sorry I searched half the island but I found nothing." The Avatar said looking down and he knew that they hadn't found anything either.
We should start searching early tomorrow, Sokka said, making this sound like the invasion all over again. "I'll go with Zuko-" "Actually you can go with Katara and I'll go with Zuko.'' Suki interrupted.
For a moment it looked as if Sokka was going to argue but in the end gave in. "Okay." He hid his eyes from Suki who gave him a suspicious look.
"It doesn't matter who we go with. I'm going to bed." Katara walked down one of the creepy hallways that made her uncomfortable and into her own room. Down the hall she heard Zuko say he's going to bed too.
She could practically feel the anger coming off him as he walked past her room.
She climbed into her bed fitted with the classic fire nation red blankets. She rolled over crying herself to sleep.
Katara was awoken by her brother nudging her, "Hey we're going to start looking for toph," he said, bringing the events from yesterday back.
As Sokka stepped out of the room she slid on her scarlet red dress and tucked her water skin under her dress so it didn't stick out but could use it as a weapon, 'If we need it,' came a dark voice in the back of her mind.
For the rest of the day Katara tried to keep that same voice away. Once her and Sokka had searched the village they headed up the hills on the far side of town.
"Found anything yet?" Sokka yelled from behind a tree, "I would've told you if I did, wouldn't I?" Katara said, gritting her teeth.
Katara walked the other way dragging her feet as she went, 'it's almost sun down and we haven't found her yet.' She kicked the ground and heard something hit a tree. When she turned to take a look she found she was looking down on Toph's meteor bracelet
