Harry, we leave you this message hoping with all our hearts that it will never be necessary, that whether we of the order of the phoenix or the ministry of magic will be able to stop Voldemort, without having to leave this burden to a child.

Lily and I will both do the possible and attempt the impossible if necessary as long as this burden does not fall on you or little Neville.

Nevertheless, if the wheel of destiny is truly unstoppable, we will give you every possible chance so that you can overcome this obstacle and live a long and happy life. If indeed the contingencies we have created are necessary, we can only guess where you will be right now.

I sincerely hope you are with yours godfather Sirius and that you're driving him crazy between accidental magic and whims of growth.

Or with Alice and Frank, growing up with Neville.

But as my father used to say, your grandfather Fleamont, hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Both Sirius, Alice and Frank, like Lily and I, have made many enemies in the opposition of Voldemort and his Death Eaters, so we can only hope that your godparents are by your side, and they are giving you just a glimpse of the love that we feel for you.

Our family has a long history, more than a thousand of years as far as I know, your grandfather assumed it was even older but many documents and artifacts have been lost throughout history.

Several times the home of the Potters was destroyed and it is only thanks to our magic that so much of our history is not lost.

Several hundred years ago one of our ancestors, Richard Potter, created a spell which in conjunction with a ritual created by his two sons, Henry and Antony, made our house one of the greatest repository of knowledge.

Richard, a very talented man in the mental arts, created a mental library which contained his memories, experiences and knowledge. As talented as their father was, the idea of two children was brilliant and the fact that they managed to create the ritual is astonishing.

Thanks to the ritual of Henry and Antony Potter their father's mental library was inherited by his two sons and thereafter updated with their memories, knowledge and experiences.

Since Richard Potter in 813 BC. every generation of potters has continued to expand what began as a library but over time has become a mental fortress that has protected our family for many years.

This ritual called "Adlais or Deulu" has never been performed with someone your age before. This because the mind of an infant or child is not able to assimilate the memories of our house.

I myself undertook this ritual at the age of 16 only because my parents fell ill and your grandfather feared that our inheritance would be lost.

Normally our ancestors performed this ritual between the ages of 15-17, the youngest of the cases was 440 years ago when Lord Gilbert Potter in his deathbed transferred to his son, Arthur at the age of 10, the inheritance of the Potter's.

At the time Arthur was his only heir and the only survivor of an attack by three ancient magical families.

Although Lord Arthur was able to reclaim his family honor and eliminate House's Potter enemies, he paid the consequences for the next 30 years of his life, his mind damaged until he died at the young age of 41.

Observing Arthur memories you can understand that he was able to reach that age only thanks to centuries of research and discoveries in the field of mental and healing arts that our ancestors comprended. Anyone else would have died in a few years if not directly died.

Since than the minimum required age to perform the ritual, except some particular cases, has been 17 years old.

Learning of the prophecy, I with much help (and patience) from you mother, made it my goal to create a spell that could hide in your mind the Potter library and that when your mind was mature enough you could make use of our heritage.

At your first birthday we were able to create a spell that encrypted and hided the library in your mind, and we successfully completed the ritual. Thanks to Lily I was able to put something of my own into our legacy and I hope my parents and grandparents are proud of what we managed to accomplish.

Harry, you won't be able to access to all of our ancestors' memories right away, but with time your magic and your mind will mature and i hope that what we did will help you.

This is the first of many messages that Lily and I have created for you but there is something that you son must absolutely know.

We love you Harry, not a single day that has passed since we knew about the little life growing inside of Lily, that we didn't want you and loved you.

Our only regret is that we weren't able to raise you and give you a bigger family. We might not be able to be there in the flesh, but we will always accompany you on your journey even if you can't see us.

With a lot of love mum and dad(Lily Marie and James Fleamont Potter)
