Chapter 1: A Major Setback
"You know, Wakko, the last time you tried to travel back in time by microwaving the remote, it didn't work very well. You really think it'll work better this time?" Yakko was stretched out on the couch, watching tv. He rolled his eyes a bit when Wakko told him his plan.
"Don't you want to try again?" Wakko asked. He stuck out his tongue and gave Yakko the puppy eyes, wagging his tail excitedly.
"Last time, we discovered a Russian knockoff and didn't leave the 2020s," Yakko reminded him.
"Well, I've got it this time!"
Dot sauntered into the living room. "Well, let's see it, then!"
"Forward or backward?" Wakko asked, fingers at the ready.
"Backward. I want to redo the Cutie and the Beast shoot and learn my lines ahead of time."
"Okay then." With one click of the button, time went whizzing by. The Warners saw shots of their old shoots from the 90s flash before them, gone in the blink of an eye.
"Stop!" Dot yelled when she saw the scene she wanted to redo.
"It's not stopping!" Wakko called back, frantically pushing at buttons. "Pause, pause!"
They finally stopped back in the 1930s. "Oh, shoot. Not here again," Yakko groaned. "Your remote took us a bit too far, huh?"
"I suppose so." Wakko tried pressing the fast forward button, but nothing happened.
"TV hasn't been invented yet, Wakko. How do you expect a TV remote to work?"
"I dunno. But we need some way home."
"What we need is money so we can get food and shelter. We need to survive long enough to get back home."
"But how do we get back home?"
Dot finally put her foot down and wedged in between her brothers. "Since women apparently don't work much during this time, I'll stay home and find a way back. It won't seem suspicious, and one of us will always have time to work things out."
Yakko gave Dot a tight hug. "Nice thinking, baby sis. Think you'll be okay staying home alone?"
Dot nodded. "I'll be fine. Besides, nobody would want to hurt this cute little face."
The Warner brothers both gave each other a side glance. They knew full well that this was a different time. While everybody seemed to love Dot back home, they couldn't remember the reactions she got when they first started out. There was always a chance folks wouldn't like her.
"If you're sure," Wakko muttered, toying around with the remote. He was starting to get nervous. What if they never got back home? What if they couldn't survive the Great Depression? He wondered if Yakko was worrying about the same things.
"We'll see about if we can get our acting jobs back, and if we can, you're coming on set with us. Okay, Dot?"
"Sounds good! I'll see about finding parts to invent the tv several years early." Wakko saw Dot's eyes widen, as if the weight of what she had just said finally hit her. "Wait. I need to try and invent the tv early and not get a patent? Not have anybody see it?"
"If we're trying to not change history, yes, Dot, you do."
"Fine. I'll do my best. But what happens if we get caught?"
"Let's not worry about that yet. Let's get to work finding our jobs."
Wakko strutted down the street towards the water tower, knowing full well they would get a job with Warner Brothers Studios. What he didn't know was that somebody else lay in his way.
