xxDustNight88 came up with the idea to write 28 drabbles inspired by fluffy, romantic prompts that she found for the month of February 2023. After consulting with her and opting not to give my muse - who has been on vacation - a choice in the matter, we talked about me writing a series of break-up drabbles. We all know that life isn't all fluff and romance, so I wanted to support the heartbreak that sometimes happens, especially this time of year. dumplingsjinson compiled a list of prompts meant to inspire "it's not you, it's me" scenarios between characters and posted it to Tumblr.
Once I found the list of prompts that I liked, I reached out to people who follow me on social media as members of my fanfiction Facebook group, followers of my fanfiction page on Facebook, followers of my fanfiction Instagram, Tumblr followers, and people on one of the discord servers I'm a member of to prompt me potential pairings for which prompt they would like to see written.
So, you will see many fandoms if you follow this series on Ao3 from now until the end of the month. There will be some days with multiple stories posted so I can use all of the prompts I found - if the muse decides to cooperate. Or if you just find yourself here for one of the stories because it falls into a fandom or pairing that you enjoy reading. I will apologize in advance for any heartbreak you may find because I have broken my heart many times while writing the stories for this series on Ao3. If you are following me on FanFiction, you will see the stories as individual stories posted throughout the month with the name Falling Starrs before the title of the actual story.
According to Urban Dictionary, a breakup is defined as "when two people have to let each other go. Despite the fact that one of them loves the other one truly. The girl or the guy in your case, decides that the two of you are not compatible for each other. Hopefully the two of the people can remain friends, though that is hard for guys to do, because we hold on. But always remember, there are more than six billion people on this planet. So though you may not want to hear it, the chances of this person being the one, are less than winning the lottery. I know it's tough but you have to move on after a break up.."
I hope you enjoy this heartbreaking adventure that we are about to embark on!
Happy reading!
Love always,
~starr
The Burrow was quiet. Ginny wandered into the sitting room and grabbed a blanket off the back of the sofa, draping it around her shoulders. She took a seat on the sofa and let out a sigh. It wasn't very often that she got to sit and enjoy the quiet. Usually, she was rushing from one arena to the next, chasing the next win for the Harpies.
Ginny found herself returning to her childhood home when she needed grounding. Being a world-renowned Quidditch player had its perks, but at the same time, it was the loneliest job in the world. If she was lucky, she'd spend the holiday with her family and then rush back out the door to get to her next game. She didn't have time for those that meant the most to her. She didn't have time for love.
"I thought I'd find you here."
His voice startled her. Ginny glanced up and saw Harry leaning against the doorframe of the kitchen. A smile pulled at the corners of her lips as he approached. She patted the seat next to her and studied his face as he joined her. Leaning over, she pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, taking note of the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes. His work with the Ministry was helping to age him quickly, but the man she had fallen in love with was still there behind the wrinkles and tired eyes. "I thought you had to be in London."
"I wanted to see you," Harry replied, resting a hand on her knee. He squeezed gently and offered her a smile. "You're a hard witch to track down."
Ginny rolled her eyes, shrugging her shoulders. "Work keeps me pretty busy. We're on a hot streak - it's like we can't lose."
"Too busy to spend time with the people who love you more than life itself?" Harry asked, raising a brow. "I know the team has been doing well, but don't you think they could do without you for a few days? Your family misses you - Rose asks about you all the time."
A small smile fell from Ginny's face at the mention of her niece. If she had one regret about the Harpies' successes, it was that she was missing the chance to watch her niece and nephew grow up. Rose would soon be getting ready to head off to Hogwarts, and Ginny barely knew her.
"I miss them too, but this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Ginny said.
"And watching your niece grow up, isn't?" Harry asked, cocking his head to the side. "What about you and I? Are we ever going to get the chance to be more than just penpals who happen to fancy one another?"
"You were my everything at one point," Ginny said, pulling the blanket tight around her shoulders as she let out a sigh. She glanced up at the picture of them on the mantle from Ron and Hermione's wedding - a happier time. "And I wish that you still were my everything, but my priorities have changed."
"Wow," Harry said, shaking his head. He removed his glasses from his face and scrubbed a hand over his head. "You think you know someone, and then they get famous."
Ginny's eyes went wide at his comment. "As if you're one to talk, oh Chosen One."
"That was a long time ago," Harry replied, glancing at her out of the corner of his eye. He pushed himself up from the sofa and made his way over to the front door.
"Where are you going?" Ginny asked. "I thought you were here to see me, and I'm here now."
"Physically, yes, you're here," Harry said, shoving a hand in his pocket. "But you aren't the same witch I fell in love with all those years ago, and that's who I was hoping to see tonight."
"Harry," Ginny whispered, pushing herself up from the couch. She took a few steps toward him when she noticed him shaking his head.
"I'm sorry, Gin," Harry said, reaching for the doorknob. "I wanted to see you tonight and ask you to consider retiring so that we could start a life together. I stepped down from my position at the Ministry, but I can see that you aren't ready for the life that I have in mind."
Without another word, Harry made his exit and left Ginny alone, just the way she wanted to be.
