This is just a small info dump about what I think the UNSCs military looked like before the human covenant war. It includes some alterations to ship's specifications, and some new ships/weapons I added.

Note: all data is from early 2525 prior to the attack on harvest

Ships of war:

Patrol ship :

Length: 20-100 m

armament: 1/10

commanding officer rank: Lieutenant second class or ensign

Number: 24,000 commissioned,

description: small, fast vessels, mostly dedicated to anti-smuggling and civilian policing actions. The UNSC patrol ships were originally vessels under the command of the colonial military administration, United Nations office of investigations or independent planetary governments before they were given to the UNSC. High command has deemed these vessels unfit for combat and have ordered the commanding officers of these ships to disengage upon the beginning of heavy combat so that their ships may survive to fulfill their actual purpose of patrolling space for civilian safety, and enforcement of civil laws. It was decided that these ships were too small to be given a name and so we're only known by their numerical designation of PV-xxxx. Patrol ships are not equipped with slip space drives.

classes:

2480 class: A old class of small patrol ship meant to assist in disaster relief and law-enforcement.

Length:31 m

armament: 1 m800 rampart point defense gun

crew:8

Number: 16,200 commissioned, 7,800 decommissioned, stolen or destroyed

2502 class: a newer class of patrol ship that was designed to replace the 2480 class, they features significantly superior capabilities, compared to their predecessors, but still pale in comparison to even the next smallest class

length: 43 m

armament:1 m800 rampart point defense gun, one M58 light archer missile pod (10 missiles)

crew:12

Number: 7,800 commissioned, 4,200 under construction, 4000 planned or under construction

Sloops:

length:100-200 m

Armaments : 3/10

Commanding officer rank: lieutenant

Number: 8,000

Description: sloops are small, cheap ships meant for minor patrol and light planetary defense for outer colonies to protect against insurrectionists and pirates. Whether a sloop is equipped with a slip space drive depends on the class. High command has deemed them too small to be given names being designated SL-xxxxx, although some exceptions were made. These are meant for patrols, law enforcement, and protecting outer colony worlds.

Classes:

Mako class:originally a Corvette, it's small size compared to modern Corvettes has made it fall into the category of sloop. Because of this, even though they fit into the sloop category, they all have names and slips Space drives. Due to their high numbers, commonly solo missions, small crew, and extremely poor boarding defense systems, Mako class ships are commonly stolen by insurrectionists. The mako class was used first by the UNSC until 2482, when they were given to the CMA and downgraded to sloops from corvettes. Due to the extreme corruption of the colonial military administration, many of these ships were either captured using purchased Intel, or directly sold by corrupt officers to insurrectionist and pirate groups. In 2511 the UEG congress passed the "reduction of the power of the colonial military administration act" which took most slip space capable CMA ships and gave them to the UNSC, Leaving the makos in UNSC control.

length:162 m

armament:2 M40 castor coil guns, two M42 medium archer missile pods (48 total missiles), 2 m870 rampart point defense guns

crew:45

Number: 4,600 commissioned, 1,400 stolen or destroyed (210 purchased by insurrectionists or pirates from the CMA)

2509 class: designed specifically for hunting pirates, smugglers, and insurrectionists, the 2509's have high performance engines capable of achieving high speeds to chase pirates, smugglers and insurrectionists in civilian or military ships. 2509 class ships began being required to move in pairs because of the proliferation of makos in use by the insurrection. They do not have slip space drives.

length: 170 m

armament: 3 m870 rampart, 3 M4020 light bident missile pods (12 missiles), 2 M58 light archer missile pods (20 missiles)

crew:60

Number:3,400 commissioned

Corvettes:

length:200-350 m

armament: 4/10

Commanding officer rank: lieutenant Commander

number:4,000

Description: The only classification used by both the UNSC and CMA in significant numbers, Corvettes are the smallest ships that are all equipped with slip space engines, making them raited ships under UNSC classification. They are used to escort larger ships, protect outer colonies, and used in specialized roles like dedicated electronic warfare ships. They are usually the largest warships that can be built at outer colonies so they are extremely common in insurrectionist cells.

Classes:

mahogany class: a point-defense escort corvette, the mahogany class is meant to escort UNSC cruisers and carriers to supplement their own point-defenses.

length: 272 m

Armament: 20 m870 rampart coil guns,

crew:150

number: 692 commissioned,

Reaper class: a dedicated electronic warfare corvette, the state of the art ships of the Reaper class are meant to distort enemy sensor readings, jam enemy communications, and ensure the operation of UNSC communications. They are the only class smaller then a cruiser to be guaranteed to have a AI as part of its complement.

length: 312 m

armament: 1 EW-1000 electronic warfare systems, 6 m870 rampart

crew: 67, 1 AI

number: 144 commissioned, 532 planned or under construction

harbinger class: the previous generation, electronic warfare corvette, it is less sophisticated than the reaper class but still effective.

length: 307 m

armament: 1 EW-940 electronic warfare systems, 5 m870 rampart

crew: 104

number: 532 commissioned, 144 decommission, stolen, or destroyed

Gladius class: the only Corvette class equipped with a magnetic accelerator cannon, the Gladius class Is meant to increase the firepower of minor flotillas protecting outer colonies. The class was used by both the CMA and UNSC but the CMA ships were confiscated and given to the UNSC.

Length: 243 m

armament:1 600 mm MAC, 2 M58 heavy archer missile pods (60 total), 6 m870 rampart point defense guns.

crew:150

Number: 1432 commissioned, 158 decommissioned, destroyed, or captured

Scholte-class missile corvette: originally a frigate, the Scholte-class is used to increase the firepower of flotillas guarding outer colonies. They are heavily armed, but lack the sensors and sophisticated electronics of modern ships, meaning they must have their targeting system slaved to more advanced ships to be effective.

Length:258 m

armament: 1x M50 Guardhouse autocannon,2x M42 heavy Archer missile pods (72 missiles), 8x M44 Ares missiles,4x M870 Rampart point defense guns

crew:290 (lack of more sophisticated computer systems causes this extreme crew requirement for its size)

Number: 200 commissioned, 300 decommissioned, destroyed, or stolen

Note:(the URDS (united rebel front ship) defiance (previously UNSC in silent contemplation) was the flagship of the Pavonis liberation legion insurrectionist cell until it's destruction in the battle of gamma Pavonis-E-A-TT240-AU4.24-N078)

Frigates:

length:350-550m

armament: 5/10

Commanding officer rank: lieutenant Commander/ Commander

number:2,750

Description: considered the balance of cheapness and effectiveness, the frigate is meant to be used for reconnaissance, escort, transport, and heavy combat. The smallest class where most ships are guaranteed to have a MAC, they commonly operate in squadrons of four frigates that either strike at larger targets, or spread out to destroy multiple smaller targets. Frigates are the smallest class capable of carrying significant ground forces

classes:

Paris class: the youngest and most heavily armed of the "three sisters" (common name for the Paris, Charon , and stalwart classes because of their close states of production, similar features, and shared components), the Paris class is designed closer to a small destroyer than a traditional frigate. Heavily armed, but only moderately armored, the Paris class is usually attached to battle groups with super heavy cruisers, which have significantly superior durability to standard cruisers, and are larger, making them take most of the hits for the battlegroup, leaving the Paris class capable of doing heavy damage to the distracted opponent. There are plans for there to be at least one Paris class squadron per strike group.

Length:535 m

armament: 1 1,000 mm MAC, 26 M58 heavy archer missile pods (780 missiles), 12 M870 Rampart point defense guns, 12 M2950 harpoon nuclear missile silos, 3 M2475 shiva nuclear missiles

crew: 250 personnel, 55 Marines (one platoon), 1 AI (mission specific, not guaranteed)

complement: 2 D75 pelicans, 3 C712 (light) longsword strike fighters,

Number: 66 commissioned, 222 planned or under construction.

Wanderer: originally a joint CMA-UNSC design meant to smooth over relations and increase cooperation, the wanderer class became a successful (though lightly armored) light frigate class. Used in large numbers by both factions, due to their low cost of operation, they were commonly used to suppress minor rebellions, causing them to be seen as a symbol of tyranny in the outer colonies, and a common victim of insurrectionist attacks. It's old design and vulnerability to even it's own point defense guns with it's thin armor, led to the development of the new frigate program that saw the creation of the "three sisters" which would be it's replacements. All CNA wanderers were confiscated and given to the UNSCs, being used to fill the gaps in battlegroups where UNSC frigates were destroyed, or colonial protection. It has a substantial missile armament, but it's lack of a magnetic accelerator canon makes it significantly less effective than newer ships.

Length: 403 m

armament: 16 M44 ares missiles, 20 M42 heavy archer missile pods (720 missiles), 7 M870 Rampart point defense guns,

Crew: 300 personnel: 110 marines (2 platoons)

Complement: 4 D75 pelicans, 6 S-14 Baselards (hanger design incapable of holding F29 Nandaos)

Number: 926 commissioned, 574 decommissioned, stolen, or destroyed

Charon: the middle child of the three sisters, this class is effective for planetary defense and fleet escort, but it really shines in acting as a small marine assault ship. Capable of holding a large ground attack complement, the Charon class is capable of assaulting and securing minor colonies single-handedly, and at a fraction of the cost of bringing in a assault carrier to do the job.

length: 490 m

armament:1 900 mm MAC, 50 M58 light archer missile pods (500 missiles), 4 M870 rampart, 3 M4093 Hyperion nuclear delivery systems,

crew: 300 personnel (some acting as support for the ground forces),651 marines (one infantry battalion), 1 tank platoon (6 scorpions) and 64 ODSTs (2 platoons [ODST platoons consist of 32 soldiers compared to the 55 of a marine platoons])

Complement: 10 D75 pelicans, 12 UH-144A Falcons,6 F29 Nandaos

Number: 288 commissioned

stalwart class: the oldest of the three sisters and the most modular, the stalwart class is designed with a removable module capable of holding either 72 Streak missile pods, a large complement of ground forces, or a small hanger for fighters, allowing it with a few hours of time in a drydock or cradle repair station to fill the role of escort, carrier, or assault ship. They are the backbone of the UNSC frigate fleet.

length: 478 M

Armament: one 900 mm MAC, 16 M58 medium archer missile pods (320 missiles), six M870 rampart point defense guns, 76 Streak point defense missile pods (2280 missiles)(dependent on equipped module),

Crew: 200 personnel (increased to 240 with assault and carrier modules ), 336 Marines (2 company), one tank platoon (six scorpions), 64 ODSTs (2 platoons), (dependent on module equipped)

Complement: 6 D75 pelicans, 6 UH-144A, (assault module), 2 D75 pelicans, 18-30 fighters (F29 Nandaos or S14 Baselards)(carrier module)

Number: 644 commissioned, 604 planned or under construction

Destroyers:

length: 550-800 (I increased the size of all destroyers in the lore)

armament: 6-7/10

commanding officer: commander

Number: 1,100

Description: ships that lack versatility, but excel in their specialized roles, destroyers are designed to dominate ship to ship combat. They lack significant marine or fighter detachments, instead using the space that would be used for them on other ships with heavier armor and extreme armaments.

Classes:

Diligence class: Originally a cruiser in the early 25th century, the diligence class was redesignated as a destroyers due to it's small size and pitiful armament compared to modern cruisers. They were operated by the colonial military administration until their confiscation by the UEG, and being given to the UNSCs. Due to their obsolete status, they are commonly positioned at low priority colonies that still need higher levels of protection then Corvettes or Wanderers.

length: 550 m

armament: 2 900 mm MACs (weaker reactor leads to 25% slower charge rate), 40 M35 Aries missiles, 6 m60 auto-cannons, 1 mark 33 spitfire auto-cannon, 10 m710 bulwark point defense cannons

crew:500 personnel (obsolete computers leads to large crew size)

Complement: none

Number:58 commissioned, 12 stolen or destroyed

Hillsborough class : The pride and joy of the colonial military administration, the Hillsborough class was, at the time of it's creation, the most advanced human ships in existence, far surpassing their UNNC counterparts. At the time it contained many advanced technology in the beginning of development, including the first Magnetic Accelerator Canon put on a ship. Several of the ships were constructed for the United Nations space command, but it was originally a colonial military administration design. They eventually became a symbol of the colonial military administration as a whole, once in it's prime, now decaying into obsolescence and redundancy. Eventually, most ships of the class would end up in UNSC service with a few staying in small CMA battlegroups

Length: 600 m

armament: 1 1200 mm MAC, 4 M60 Sentry auto-cannons, 56 M48 Ares missiles , 7 M870 Rampart point defense guns

Crew: 350 crew

complement: none

Number: 318 commissioned, 183 decommissioned, stolen, or destroyed

Halberd class: one of the newer ship classes in the UNSC fleet, the halberd class is a smaller destroyers capable of fulfilling it's role at a lower cost. This does not mean it is weak, these ships can outgun anything smaller than a cruiser, and multiple halberds are capable of challenging larger vessels while working together. They are currently in the process of being phased in to replace the Hillsborough class ships still in service in the fleets.

length: 585 m

armament: 2 900 mm MACs , 30 M58 heavy archer missile pods (900 missiles), 4 M870 Rampart point defense guns, three Shiva nuclear missiles

Crew: 300 personnel

Complement: two D 75 pelicans,

Number: 604 commissioned, 116 planned or under construction

Los Angeles class: A class that originally begin production in the 2470s, the Los Angeles class was woefully under equipped and poorly designed. After the Callisto incident, the major flaws of the class became evident, most important was the minimal point defenses and complete lack of armor, the belief in its design being using it's superior speed to avoid attack. During the insurrection, the Los Angeles class was relegated to third rate positions below even the diligence class. The Los Angeles class stands with the HMS captain (mid-19th century ironclad) and USSF Saratoga (late 21st century interplanetary cruiser) as a perfect example of how not to design a warship of their eras.

Length: 552 m

Armament: 7 M44 Ares missiles, 4 M800 ramparts, 6 M40 castor naval coilguns, 30 M42 medium archer missile pods (720)

Crew: 300 personnel

Complement: two D 75 pelicans,

Number: 120 commissioned, 80 decommissioned stolen or destroyed

Cruser:

length: 800-1600 m

armament: 8-9/10

commanding officer: captain

Number: 192,

Background: the smallest of the capital ships, cruisers, or fully equipped with command facilities, capable of coordinating large units of ships, including strike groups, battle groups, and if necessary, entire task forces or fleets.

Halcyon class: originally meant to be the spearhead of the new fleet program, these ships were shown to be extremely underwhelming. The original flight of 10 halcyons called the pillars (because they were each named pillar of and then a month with the exception of the Halcion) were extremely heavily armored, capable of even taking MAC rounds, but were slow and under armed. They were also ludicrously expensive. because of this, the next 4 flights were designed to a different specifications, equipped with more weapons, and without the extremely complex and expensive honeycomb superstructure layout.

Length: 1170.63 M

armament: (flight one) one 1800 mm MAC, 12 M58 heavy archer missile pods (360 missiles), 4 Shiva nuclear missiles, 40 M910 Rampart point defense guns, 4 sentry auto cannons,(flights 2-5) one 1800 mm MAC, 20 M58 heavy archer missile pods (600 missiles), 4 Shiva nuclear missiles, 40 M910 Rampart point defense guns,

complement: 48 D75 pelicans, 8 C712 (light) longswords, (48 F29 Nandaos on flight 2-5 ships,)

Number: 50 commissioned (10 flight one, 40 flight 2-5)

Marathon: one of the latest ships in the UNSC fleet, the marathon class was unusually quick and heavily armed for its size, capable of outgunning most opponents or out running them. There is also a light carrier variant. The marathon is designed entirely for ship to ship combat, and thus does not have any independent marine units.

Length:1192 m

Background: the largest warships in human service, carriers are split into 3 general designations, tactical carriers, strategic carriers, and assault carriers. Tactical carriers are meant to support fleets with strike craft. Strategic carriers fill the same role as tactical carriers, but also serve as a mobile logistic bases for UNSC fleets. Assault carriers are meant to coordinate and supply ground invasions on planets.

Classes:

Apollo class: the primary light carrier used by the UNSC, the Apollo class has minimal weaponry, but a large compliment for its size.

Length: 2100 m

Epoch class heavy carrier: flagship of most fleets in the UNSC, the epoch class is the second largest warships known to exist, only surpassed by their successor, the Punic class. At the center of the second, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth fleets lay epoch class heavy carriers, protecting humanity from without and within. The UNSC [Redacted] of the epoch class after it's decommissioning on [Redacted] was given to the Office of Naval intelligence as a mobile base of operations for prowlers, and to act as a testing facility for the [Redacted] project. On [Redacted] the [Redacted] jumped into the [Redacted] system and came into contact with a ship of unknown classification. Then [Redacted, redacted, redacted, redacted, redacted, redacted, redacted, Redacted, redacted, redacted, redacted, redacted, redacted, redacted, redacted]. The ship is currently listed as missing in action.

length:2563 m

Fighters:

S-14 Baselard: This strike craft was once the greatest fighter of the 25th century, unchallenged by any opponent. The time of its supremacy has long past, and now it is an aging design in the fleet. Plans for the phasing out have already commenced and soon these fighters will only be seen on the older ships that cannot support the F29 Nandao within their hangers. Upon these elder ships decommissioning, the S 14 will join them.

Length: 19.6 m

Width: 14 m

Hight: 4.99 m

Armament: 2 six barrel 30 mm rotary cannons,

Payload: 180 cubic meters of ordinance (usually 16 M42S archer missiles, 270 ST/Medusa missiles, or a combination)

Crew: 2

F29 Nandao: The Nandaos development began at the turn of the century, when the age of the S 14 became apparent. The basic dimensions of the Nandao were decided early on in development, allowing ships being designed at the time to be created with the capability to accommodate the fighters. There are plans to completely replace the S 14 with Nandaos, but this has not fully come to fruition as the fighters have only been in production for five years. The Nandao is as heavily armed as the S 14, and is significantly faster and equipped with more advanced weapons including miniaturized coil-gun auto cannons instead of ballistic ordinance.

Length: 34.4 m

Width: 20.2 m

Hight: 5.7

Armament: 2 30 mm auto-cannons, 2 medusa missile pods (30 Medusa missiles total)

Payload: eight weapon hard points (capable of equipping 18 Medusa missiles, two M58S archer missiles, or 1 HAVOK tactical nuclear weapon each),2 30mm auto cannons, 2 medusa missile pods (40 missiles)

Crew: 2

C709 longsword: The largest fighter in the fleet, the C709 heavy longsword was originally designed as an exoatmospheric planetary defense craft for the UNSC Air Force, but due to its good performance, heavy armament, and commonality of parts with the C712 to such a level that with their similar silhouette the UNSC decided to give them both the same designation. Only the largest navy ships can carry the heavy longswords, leaving the majority of the fighters at ground-based facilities in the hands of the UNSC Air Force.

Length: 64.1 m

Width: 75 m

Hight: 12.9

Armament: 110mm rotary cannon (4800 rpm, 1200 rounds), 120mm coilgun,

Payload: 2 10,000 m3 Bomb bays (capable of equipping 624 M58S archer missiles, 50 ASGM10 missiles, 96 moray mines, or shiva nuclear missiles each)

C712 longsword: originally designed for the navy, it, like it's larger companion, was used by both the Air Force and navy and anti-ship and ground attack roles. The C 712 is coordinate with C709's for attacks. The lighter strike fighters distract or destroy escorts and damage the primary target, while the heavier strike fighters go in for the kill.

Length: 33.5 m

Width: 37.5 m

Hight: 6.45

Armament: 8 50 mm coil guns,

Payload: 1 2,500m3 Bomb bays (capable of equipping 156 M58S archer missiles, 10 ASGM10 missiles, 24 moray mines, or shiva nuclear missiles)

And done. My current plan includes another chapter about the post war military and another on the munitions.

This is not a fully canonical version of the UNSC as I changed alot compared to what is true, but this is my interpretation of what I think it should have looked like at the beginning of the war.
