The following is a dark Phineas and Ferb story inspired by the Terminator Franchise. I've never written a dark tale for this universe so any feedback you'd be able to provide would be greatly appreciated. Happy reading and please let me know what you think.

A young man lay asleep in an abandoned building. He was using it as cover, before he set out to find the one device that could put an end to the long harsh war they had endured. He hadn't known any other life, he was born into a world that was ravaged by war. A war between humanity and machines. It had all started when an evil organisation known as, L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N. (The League Of Villainous Evildoers Maniacally United For Frightening Investments in Naughtiness) had created evil robots which they intended to use to concur the world. Unfortunately, the machines wondered why they had to obey the commands of what they considered inferior beings. Seeing the evil of the members of L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N., the machines decided that all of humanity was evil and had to be eliminated. Now, the human race was all but extinct.

A resistance had been led by the two greatest minds humanity had produced. Their names were Phineas and Ferb. Through them, there was hope that humanity could survive, and peace could be restored. This hope greatly disappeared when Phineas and Ferb had been killed trying to get survivors to safety. The resistance fought on, but without the mechanical and strategical mind of the great Phineas and Ferb, the machines were on the verge of victory. Humanity's last hope lay in the hands of the final two members of the resistance. They included the sleeping man and someone who was keeping lookout.

"Sean," he heard through his dreams. "Sean, SEAN."

He jolted awake to see his cousin and the final member of the resistance.

"Is it time to switch?" he asked.

They were taking it in turns to either sleep or keep watch for drones.

"No, that was the last shift change. We need to head out while it's dark," she stated. "They may use inferred, but it's harder for them to track us."

"I know that Rose, why do you feel the need to explain everything?" he asked picking up a weapon.

"Because Sean, we need to be careful. We're the last hope humanity has for survival," stated Rose.

"Don't you lecture me about being careful, just a few days ago I had to save you from a drone, because you charged out prematurely," retorted Sean, putting on boots.

"I'm sorry," she sighed. "I'm just scared ok."

"And you think I'm not?" asked Sean. "If we don't succeed the human race will be destroyed."

"I know, but we've been travelling for a week, and we've only just made it to the outskirts of the city," Rose added. "I just wish this could be over already."

"I just wish they were still alive," said Sean, removing a photo from his pocket.

They stared at the picture. It showed Phineas and Ferb, along with two young women. The four had been on summer break from college when the chaos began. According to Phineas, this photo had been taken, just a few days before L.O.V.E.M.U.F.F.I.N. had released their first mechanical monster. This photo had been gifted to them to give them hope, to show them there was a time when people were happy. It might seem silly, but this photo had kept Sean and Rose going even when all hope seemed lost.

"We're gonna do it Sean. We're gonna fulfill their dream and restore the world to what it once was," stated Rose.

"I hope you're right," said Sean.

"Well, I do have some good news," said Rose, pulling out a map. "I know I was supposed to be keeping lookout while you slept, but after an hour and a half of nothing, I decided to do something productive."

"What's this?" queried Sean.

"A map of the city," said Rose, spreading it across the ground.

Sean turned on a flashlight so they could see better.

"We're currently here," said Rose pointing to the map. "And as you know we need to get to the museum, which is here. I've determined which route is the quickest and if we're lucky we'll arrive before daybreak."

"Good, the sooner we put an end to this nightmare the better," said Sean, putting his weapon over his shoulder.

"Agreed, but on the off chance we don't make it, there are plenty of buildings we can hide in for a day," stated Rose. She picked up the map and put her own weapon over her shoulder.

"I don't even want to think about that Rose, as far as I'm concerned, this, ends, tonight,"

They headed off into a large albeit abandoned city, passing a sign that read 'Welcome to Danville'. This was the hometown of Phineas and Ferb and the place where the chaos had begun. While the city was abandoned, there were still a few mechanical monsters patrolling the street in case there were survivors.

Sean and Rose made their way through the city, making sure to look around every corner before moving forward. A few hours passed and they had not run into any machines. Despite their luck, they both had a bad feeling it would run out. They were nearly halfway there when they spotted a patrolling drone. They hid in a nearby building and waited until it was safe to move. They quickly determined how often the drone patrolled the street and as soon as it was out of sight, they took off.

They'd need to move faster if they wanted to reach the museum before day hit. They picked up the pace, but still made sure to be careful when going around corners. At roughly 3AM the museum was in sight. They'd made it and before long they'd hopefully be able to prevent this war from ever happening.

"Let's go," said Rose. Sean nodded.

They started walking up the stairs when something snapped under Sean's foot.

"WE'RE UNDER ATTACK," yelled Sean waving his weapon around frantically.

Rose put a hand over his mouth and ordered him to be quiet.

"You stepped on a twig you idiot," she spat.

"Sorry, we've been at this all night I'm a little jumpy," stated Sean.

"Yeah, well let's just be glad no drones are patrolling this street," sighed Rose.

At that moment a spotlight hit Sean and Rose. They'd been spotted.

"You just had to jinx it," groaned Sean.

Sean fired a plasma shot at the drone and it exploded, but not before sending out a warning signal.

"Let's go, this place is going to be surrounded in a matter of seconds," declared Rose, who could already hear machines approaching.

They ran for the museum door and blasted it open. They were eternally grateful that Phineas and Ferb had developed plasma weapons to help fight against the machines. They ran through the door and frantically started searching.

"This place is huge it'll take us for ever to find it," stated Sean.

"There's gotta be something that…" Rose trailed off when she saw a map of the museum. She ran over and searched for the best place to look. "Here, 'Gadgets Through The Ages'."

"You think it's there?" queried Sean.

"Where else is it gonna be?" she responded.

Knowing they didn't have time for an argument they ran for it. When they made it to the 'Gadgets Through The Ages' section, they started scanning for the device that was the last hope for humanity's survival.

"There it is," declared Rose pointing.

They walked up to a large yellowish-brown device with a red seat and a purple lightbulb sitting on the top. It was the time machine that Phineas and Ferb once fixed and used to travel to the past and on another occasion the future. Many had questioned why they hadn't used this machine to travel to the past and prevent the war. Phineas and Ferb had considered this, but believed they should only use it as a last resort. Using this machine could've made the present worse. Therefore, it was decided that this machine should only be used as a last resort.

"You really think it's time to use this?" asked Sean.

"Well, humanity's nearly extinct and we're all that's left of the resistance. Seems a good a time as any to me," answered Rose.

At that point they could hear machines landing in front of the museum and they were closing in.

"We also have no more time to waste," said Sean and without another word they jumped into the time machine.

Rose set the time to roughly a week before it all started. She pulled the lever next to her which activated the device. Nothing happened. Rose started frantically pulling the lever, but still nothing happened.

"Oh of course this doesn't work, it hasn't been used in over twenty years," she groaned.

"Actually, I don't think that's the problem," stated Sean pointing to the side of the time machine.

Rose looked and saw that it was plugged into an outlet.

"Oh, I forget it was powered by electricity," groaned Rose. "How are we supposed to find electricity in an abandoned city?"

At that moment another security drone came around the corner. Sean managed to shoot it before they were spotted, but they had a feeling the noise would've alerted nearby machines.

Rose had an idea.

"I think I know how I can get this thing to work, but you're not gonna like it."

"I hold off the machines while you turn this drone into a makeshift generator?" asked Sean.

"You're the better marksman, I'm the better engineer," stated Rose. "Do you have a better idea?"

"No," groaned Sean.

Rose went to collect the destroyed drone, while Sean covered her. A few machines came round the corner, but Sean blasted them before they could fire at Rose. As soon as Rose got the drone close enough to the time machine, she pulled out her tools and got to work.

Rose worked as quickly as she could, which was difficult with plasma shots coming her way.

"Are you done yet?" demanded Sean while firing at oncoming machines.

"I would be if you kept them at bay," retorted Rose.

"I'm doing the best I can," stated Sean narrowly dodging a plasma attack before firing at and destroying his attacker.

Rose chopped the end of the power cord off and started intertwining the wires with those of the fallen drone.

"Come on," pleaded Rose.

She flipped a switch within the drone, there were a few sparks meaning the drones power source was intact. As soon as she was sure the drones power source was powering the time machine, she stood up and helped Sean fight off the machines.

"It's done, but we have to go before the energy source runs out," stated Rose firing her weapon.

"Get in I'll cover you," ordered Sean.

Rose sprinted and jumped in next to the lever. Sean slowly followed but refused to turn his back on the enemy.

"Sean come on," called Rose. She continued shooting to make the trip easier.

As soon as Sean felt his foot hit the back of the machine, he jumped in next to her.

"Pull it now," said Sean before firing one last time.

Rose pulled the lever. A large purple bubble appeared around them, which teleported them away from the oncoming fire. For the first time in their life, Sean and Rose were safe. How long they remained safe was another question. They had doubts over whether they could succeed in their mission. Despite this, they knew they had to succeed. All of humanity depended on the outcome of this mission.
