Presidents Day 2023

Kate's preschool teacher was teaching her advance preschool class how to write a basic report. She was using the introduction, body and conclusion method. For the assignment she provided three basic questions for the students to research and find the answers to, which would provide the body of their report.

She had modeled a report for them before giving them the assignment that was due prior to the Presidents Day holiday weekend. She told them that it was okay to turn in the report in outline form. She would continue to teach them how to reword their reports so that they didn't plagiarize and how to list their sources.

Right now, the teacher knew that her students would basically just copy the words from their source and that was fine for this report. The process of researching and writing a report is a long process, this was just the first step in her lesson which would last for the rest of the school year.

Kate talked with her parents about her report and they decided she would spend five days working on it. They laid out a plan of action with her. Day 1, she would research and write her introduction. Day 2, she would work on answering the first question, Day 3 – question 2, Day 4 – question 3 and on Day 5 she would work on her conclusion and review everything and put her report together.

Kate loved her mothers and appreciated their input. She spent the next week researching and putting her report together. After dinner, she shared her report with them. They loved it. Maura found it hard not to teach her how to reword her information so that she wasn't plagiarizing but she knew that the teacher would work on that in future lessons.

Kate turned her report in and two days later her teacher gave her graded report back to her. She received a perfect score and was so happy. When her mothers returned home from work, Kate ran up to them with her report in hand, "Mama, mommy, look at my report! I got a hundred!"

"Wow, Kate, that's great! We're so proud of you! Let me see it." Jane said as Kate handed her report to Jane, who read the teacher's comment and smiled.

"You did a great job, Kate!" Maura said as Jane handed her the report.

Kate replied, "Thank you for helping me with my report, Mommy and Mama. I couldn't have done it without you."

Jane said, "You're welcome, Kate. We're always here to help you learn and grow."

Maura added, "And we're so happy that you got a perfect score! Keep up the good work!"

"Thank you." Kate replied as she hugged her mothers and then took one of each of their hands and pulled them into the living room. Angela was in the kitchen cooking dinner and just smiled when she saw Kate pulling her mothers along.
