Measurement
Weiss was finally at home after a long day at work, beyond exhausted.
Going through the whole stack of documents from morning till dusk for days was quite a mentally draining process, one of the things She has been willing to do as part of her duty as the newly assigned CEO of the Schnee Dust Company. Weiss needed a good break. Tomorrow, she would participate in another trip to one of the mines to examine the working conditions there.
"Mother made the position look a lot less daunting than this." She muttered.
Her mother, the former CEO Willow Schnee, had managed the company in such a high spirit that Weiss nearly got the wrong impression about its difficulty. Hazardous Dust Particles is a much more serious problem than people might think, the safety guides were often overlooked due to the incredible nature of the resources. Her clients tent to exploit the smallest details in the final product and demand a lower price. Some of them could be so ignorant as to put the manual away and hope for a one-sided beneficial deal just because they thought she could get caught up in a web of empty compliments.
Oh, dearest customers and business-partners. How mistaken they could be.
They underestimated a Schnee's conviction and had their running mouths clamp shut in a meeting this afternoon. A wave of satisfaction hit Weiss and continued to linger all over her senses as she temporarily rested on the sofa. It cost her an entire night to create a perfect, flawless electronic presentations, which she still remembered letting out an evil giggle in-between the making. And that somehow scared Jaune a bit, he was there to support her by going through the documents.
Speaking of which, Weiss grabbed her scroll and shot him a text. He didn't reply and seemed to have been offline for a while. Jaune wasn't home yet. He was probably on guard duty, checking the perimeters outside the city wall on that hovering bike.
If only he was here, they could have a short celebration. Weiss saved them a good story to tell, he would be glad to hear about the result of his help to her work.
Soon, Weiss hardly stopped her eyelids from closing as she fell asleep.
Very faint, Weiss heard a click by the entrance while the drowsiness plagued her consciousness.
"Weiss. I'm home."
It was Jaune, coming back from his shift. Weiss couldn't find the strength to fully open her eyelids, the exhaustion finally caught onto her body and hasn't let go. She only saw his blurry figure approaching the sofa.
"You're sleeping?"
Jaune crouched down, next to her side. He placed the back of his hand on her forehead to check on the temperature. With the air-con running and the cold weather outside, he was worried she might have gotten sick. Weiss wanted to tell him that she was fine but the lack of energy on every part of her being continued to reject the idea.
He walked away, turning off the lights and leaving on just a lamb by the sofa. His footsteps echoed lightly around the house until he returned with a blanket. As Jaune covered her, Weiss felt the warm setting in. It embraced her already melted heart.
"Good night, Weiss."
You too, Jaune. Weiss thought and couldn't say those words.
He stood up and began making his way towards their room. However, through the gap of her eyelids, Weiss saw his back abruptly stopped as if he just recalled something. He looked at her while making a gesture with one hand lightly tap the other palm. It sounded like Jaune had an idea involving a sleeping Weiss Schnee in mind. He got to a drawer by the kitchen and took something out.
when Jaune got back, he was holding a soft tape measure. He sat down next to her once more, tried not to make a sound. He drew a breath of nervous and steadily extended the tape toward her slender hand.
Weiss felt a solid sensation wrap around one of her fingers. The tape glided on top the delicate skin some more and eventually hugged it.
"...gu..."
Jaune startled at her soft whimper. Weiss was actually gasping in her mind. She couldn't believe it, he was taking the size of her ring finger.
"Alright, got the number!" Jaune whispered to himself as he punched the air in excitement.
Then, he tip-toed out of her sight, like a silly thief with a precious jewel in bag, and left Weiss to rest by herself. Unknown to Jaune, he just missed that faint smile on her lip.
At dawn, Weiss woke up, feeling more refreshed than ever with a little yawn. Reaching for her scroll, Weiss realized the table wasn't there. It had been put away from where she was, by the wall.
A snore caught her attention. Weiss looked down, her eyes slightly widened at the sight of Jaune sleeping on the concrete floor instead of their bed. He got a blanket pulled over and a pillow under his head. She almost flinched when her barefoot touched the floor. The ground was cold and yet here he was dozing off like a log. Simple Jaune.
Weiss rushed the hair behind her ears as she hunched over his face. The little sneaky activity he pulled last night emerged in her head. Perhaps thanks to that, she had had a wonderful slumber.
But even so...
"You could have just asked me, you dork." Weiss said with a blush.
Delight as she was, Weiss would still prefer a more straightforward approach. In retaliation to his action, she was about to perform on him a stealthy thing. A smudge of lipstick planted near the corner of his lip.
"I do."
And the happiest words sweetly spoken.
