Exactly As It Should Be (1/1)

"Seriously, I'm willing to dip into my retirement account if necessary," Carrie told Ashae's mom Raina as they put away leftovers in the kitchen. "If there is footage out there of Steve McGarrett at a tea party I need to see it."

"The venue taped the whole thing from start to finish," Raina said. "I'll send you a copy." She opened the refrigerator door. "I may even have a little private footage from afterwards when we went to the nail salon and the mall."

"You are my new favorite person." Carrie rubbed her hands together. "Name your price. I can't wait to see it."

"See what?" Angie asked as she and Ashae headed through the kitchen to go back outside after a trip to the bathroom.

"A video of you in your very, very pretty dress at the tea party with your daddy," Carrie replied.

"We had lots of fun." Ashae held out her hands. "I still have my purple nail polish."

Angie proudly put her fingers next to her best friend's. "Me too!"

Raina smiled. "They were allowed to get a little brighter color than usual because it was a special occasion."

Carrie knelt in front of the girls and admired their nails. "Beautiful. I can't wait to see the video."

"We can watch it when you come over to babysit next week so Mommy and Daddy can have their late Valentine's Day dinner," Angie suggested.

"That's a great idea." Carrie booped her goddaughter's nose. "It's a date!"

"I don't think I'll ever get used to the sight of the governor of Hawaii playing Frisbee football with my kid," Mary chuckled as she and Catherine stood on the sidelines watching the game. "If word of this hits social media I'll be the talk of the school drop off line when we get back to LA."

"She definitely prefers things like this to stuffy fundraisers," Catherine said as she watched her boss jog back to the huddle. "She and Lance and the kids don't get to come over all that often. Mostly because the whole security thing can be a bit of a hassle. But it's been a stressful few weeks at work and she really needs to cut loose a little."

Mary eyed the members of Lea's security detail positioned as unobtrusively as possible around the beach. "With the entire task force here those guys probably wouldn't have to lift a finger even if something did go wrong," she snorted.

An errant throw by Jacob landed the frisbee in the shallow water just beyond the shoreline. As Angie, Ashae, and Joan ran to get it Cammie intervened. She began barking and using her body to gently herd them back towards the beach.

"It's ok, Cammie," Angie told her devoted friend. "Mommy and Daddy are right here."

Cammie was undeterred.

She kept the girls at bay until Steve jogged past them and retrieved the disc.

"Good girl," he told the smartest dog on Oahu as he scratched her ears.

"Never mind the task force." Catherine smiled affectionately. "Cammie's got things handled."

"You definitely need to come to LA to see a game this season," Aaron told DJ and Steve. "I know Dodger Stadium isn't Wrigley Field but it's still pretty cool. They have the best hotdogs in the world there."

"Can we, Daddy?" DJ asked hopefully. "That'd be so cool."

"It sounds like fun," Steve agreed. "We'll have to talk to Mommy and see what she thinks."

Aaron pulled out his phone and did a quick scroll. "Yes!" He pumped his fist. "The Cubs will be in town April 14, 15 & 16. It's a weekend series."

"We wouldn't have to worry about missing school." DJ's eyes sparkled with excitement.

"It would be nice to get away for a few days," Steve said.

Catherine placed the last of the dessert trays on a nearby table then eyed the group suspiciously. "What's going on here?" she asked. "You three definitely look like you're planning something."

"Uncle Aaron said we should go to LA to see a baseball game this year and the Cubs are playing there in April and it's a weekend so we wouldn't have to miss school." The words tumbled out of DJ's mouth. "Daddy said we have to ask you first. Doesn't it sound fun, Mommy?"

"It's ok with me as long as it's ok with Aunt Mary," Catherine said.

DJ gave a little hop and clapped his hands with happiness as Mary, Angie, and Joan approached.

"As long as what's ok with Aunt Mary?" Mary asked with a smile.

"Uncle Aaron said we should come to LA to see a baseball game and Daddy said we could go if Mommy said it was ok and Mommy said we can go if it's ok with you," DJ explained.

"Of course it's ok with me," Mary said. "You guys are welcome at our place anytime."

DJ high fived Aaron. "This was a super good idea, Uncle Aaron."

"You're comin' to my house," Joan told Angie.

A second later both girls thrust their hands in the air and squealed "Sleepover!"

"Penny for your thoughts," Catherine said as she wrapped her arm around Steve's waist as he stood near the edge of the deck watching the festivities around him.

Carrie and John were playing cards with Grandma Ang and Steve guessed by the sly smile on her face she was winning as usual. Danny and Gabby looked on proudly as Grace told Chin, Kono, Leilani and Adam how she'd been selected to plan the large spring fundraiser event for the symphony foundation at the Ko Olina. Elizabeth, Raina, and Deb couldn't help but laugh as they watched Angie, Joan, DJ, and Ashae try to teach Joseph to sing their favorite songs from Frozen. Jacob was telling a story that had Mary, Aaron, Jenna, Kaitlyn, and Kendra in stitches. Jadon was deep in conversation with Duke and Grover. Cody and Jess were sharing a laugh with Lea and her family while Max and Jerry debated who knows what.

"I was just thinking about how lucky we are," he said. "There are so many families that drift apart over time but it feels like ours gets bigger and closer every year."

"Exactly as it should be," Catherine said as she laid her head on his shoulder. "Happy McGarrett Rollins Family and Friends Day."
