A/N: Happy belated Valentine's Day, here is a small oneshot full of Pepperony, enjoy.
She looks at the cold hardly touched meal on the table, wine in the glasses and rose petals leading to the kitchen. Pepper Potts sits on the couch in sweats and a t-shirt, her feet bare, the silk red, backless dress she had on hangs in the closet, the heels she wore are thrown across the hotel suite, the suite Tony had surprised her with for Valentine's Day. She knows that Tony's superhero job as Iron Man is important to him but so is she. She knows he loves her with everything he has, but she can't help worrying that whenever he leaves, with a kiss to her lips and a whispered 'I love you, I'm coming back home to you', that it''ll be the last time she sees him and hears his voice and feels his lips against hers before she gets a call from one of the team telling her that the love of her life isn't coming home and that she'll have to bury him.
A knock at the suite door brings her from her thoughts. She gets to her feet and pads to the door, hoping it's Tony, but then again, why would he knock when he has a key? She opens the door and sees a server.
"Your chocolate covered strawberries, Miss Potts." The server says, handing her a car that has a massive bowl of strawberries and equally massive bowl of melted chocolate. She didn't order this, she would've remembered if she had.
"I..I'm sorry, but I didn't order this." Pepper tells the server. "The request came from Mr Tony Stark." Pepper rolls her eyes Of course it did. Pepper thinks to herself while looking at the server.
"He also told me to say that he's sorry for ditching you on Valentine's Day." The server says, Pepper nods and takes the cart, thanking the server and closing the door in his face.
Pepper leaves the cart of strawberries and melted chocolate near the door and walks back to the couch, not looking at the bed that is covered in rose petals. She won't sleep in a bed unless she had Tony with her. She turns on the giant tv and puts on a cheesy romance movie before going to get the cart of strawberries and chocolate and wheels it to the couch. In between the bowls, Pepper spots a card, written by a very familiar red and gold superhero.
Pepper,
Just know that I love you and I'm coming back home to you,
No matter how long it takes,
No matter how many beatings I have to take,
No matter how many how many times I'm kidnapped,
No matter how many months I'm away from you,
I'll always fight my way back to you,
Back to my other half,
Back to my soulmate, back to my home,
Because wherever you are, that's where my home is.
I love you, Pepper Potts.
Tony Stark.
Pepper sighs lovingly as she reads Tony's note as she bites into a strawberry. She just wishes he were here right now.
All Pepper wants for Valentine's Day is for Tony to come back home to her, she doesn't care about the food, the wine, the fireworks he's undoubtedly set up for her or the over the top presents he's got her, all she wants for Valentine's Day is him to be home with her.
Tony Stark is in a foul mood by the time he reaches the hotel he and Pepper were supposed to spend Valentine's Day together. He had to leave the love of his life alone on Valentine's Day for hours on end just because the bad guys couldn't say good for one day, and what's worse is that Pepper said she understood but the expression on her face was crushing to see. He just hopes that the chocolate covered strawberries he had the hotel kitchen send up along with the note made her feel a little bit better. Tony reaches the suite and opens the door, walking deeper into the large room to see that the cold dinner and wine hasn't been touched since he left, her heels are thrown by the balcony door, the ravishing red and backless dress isn't anywhere in sight, and Pepper is curled up on the couch asleep, dressed in sweats and a shirt, the large bed hasn't been slept in.
Tony smiles as he watches the love of his life sleep. Even in sleep she's beautiful. He kneels beside her and rubs her back softly, watching as her eyes flutter open, a sleepy smile spreading across her face.
"Hi." Tony says with a smile.
"Hey, you're home." Pepper says.
"I'm home." Tony confirms, kissing her lips. Pepper sits up, wrapping her arms around his neck, deepening their kiss.
"I know the day's almost over, but what do you say to testing out the big bed?" Tony says, kissing Pepper's throat. A throaty moan is his response.
Wrapped in Tony's naked arms, their clothes strewn around, the thick quilt and rose petals on the floor and a thin sheet covering them from the cold February night outside, Pepper lays her head on Tony's chest, just below his arc reactor and lets the glow of the thing that's keeping him alive, lull her to sleep.
"Happy Valentine's Day, Pepper." Tony whispers to his sleeping Pepper.
Coming home to her is the best Valentine's gift he's ever received.
A\N: I know, I know, happy belated Valentine's Day, Angles, enjoy!
