Chapter 12

Milo, Kayden and Coilymon descend down the dark shaft not knowing where they'll end up. They reach the bottom and hit the ground with a hard thud.

"Gah!" Milo exclaims.

Kayden crashes but doesn't react. He's still in a catatonic state and unresponsive besides the fact he's breathing. Coilymon lightly lands on his tendrils.

"Kayden… Coilymon are you guys ok?"

Kayden is unresponsive.

Coilymon, "Fine."

Milo gets up and tries to lift Kayden up, "Come on Kayden snap out of it…"

The sounds of zombies is nearby, Coilymon gets prepared to fight eventhough he's worn out from earlier. Milo looks around and helps Kayden to his feet almost dragging him. Coilymon manages to support Kayden enough to make him walk also. "Move. Fast. Enemy. Close." They make it down a few turns into the maze before hitting a dead end.

"Shit…" Milo searches around desperately to no avail.

Coilymon, "Trapped. Must. Fight."

Coilymon strains to make a plant barrier with the last of his strength. The zombies tumble and groan coming towards them, Milo picks up a nearby stick and starts stabbing the zombies through the holes in the barrier. They aren't sure how long they will last but, they refuse to lose hope.

Meanwhile, In Kayden's mind

Leokumon had gone back to the swamp to return him to his house. He opened the gateway which Kayden had walked through, Sablemon made the decision to jump in after him.

He arrives back in his bed room, only an hour had passed in his lap was Sablemon, "Surprise!". Kayden covers his mouth, "Quiet! How did you come with me?".

Sablemon whispers, "I followed you silly! I told you I go where you go!"

Kayden hears footsteps approaching the door, "What is that noise Kayden?" says the shrill voice of his nanny.

Kayden yells, "Nothing."

His nanny shouts though "You better be doing your homework; you are grounded young man! Your father is going to have a word with you shortly"

Kayden responds annoyed "Yes, Karen."

Kayden then searching for a place to hide Sablemon, "I got to hide you!"

Sablemon asks, "Why?"

"I'll get in trouble if dad finds you, he's kind of… overprotective in a way. If you get caught he might take you away or worse!"

Sablemon gasp, "Oh… you gotta hide me Kayden! I don't wanna be taken away from you?" Sablemon tears up.

"Don't worry, I know how to handle him" Kayden stashes Sablemon in the closet, "Just stay quiet and don't make a noise"

Kayden jumps on his school computer and opens his homework. His father knocks on the door shortly after, "Kayden, I'm coming in"

"Ok…"

Tomoki enters the room looking exhausted and a bit disheveled, "I heard you had an accident with your sister today. What happened?"

"Why do you care? You are just going to go back to your computer and Karen is going to just lock me in here like she always does."

Tomoki sighs, "Kayden, I just don't want you doing anything you'll regret later. She's your only sister and… well you can't be so rough with her. She's just a toddler."

Kayden says, "Yea, whatever. I got work to do if you are done." Kayden faces away from his father.

Tomoki lets out a sigh and leaves with a tired expression, "I love you son… you know that?"

Kayden is at his computer typing away, "Uh huh"

Tomoki closes the door and leaves.

Sablemon whispers, "Can I come out now?"

Kayden responds, "Yea…"

"Who was that?"

"That was my dad"

"What's a… dad?"

"Someone who works everyday and never comes by unless you do something bad."

"Oh… that sounds terrible, well I'll be here for you all the time!" Sablemon digs into his bag and pulls out a plushie of himself. "Go on hug it, it's really nice"

"What else do you have in there?" Kayden looks at his bag.

Sablemon blushes a bit, "Stuff…"

Days later…

Tomoki calls out to Karen "Karen, have you seen my soles? I can't seem to find them."

Karen responds, "No, I think someone has been stealing objects around the house. Various items have gone missing including my jewelry!"

Kayden gives a nervous sweat. Karen approaches Kayden, "Do you have anything to do with this?"

Kayden stutters, "N- no…"

Karen goes into his room. Kayden yells, "Hey you can't just go in there!" She checks around every nook and cranny until she approaches the closet. She opens it and finds nothing.

"Are you satisfied?" Kayden groans.

Karen says, "Well… I was just making sure, I know you and your father have been tense lately."

"So you think I would resort to stealing soles?" Kayden says annoyed.

Karen excuses herself and leaves, "Make sure you are down for dinner, we are having collard greens and pigs feet today!" Kayden shows visible disgust.

Kayden looks around for Sablemon, "sablemon where are you?" He wasn't in his room.

Suddenly he hears a scream come from the kitchen. Kayden runs down, "No sablemon!"

Karen yells at Kayden, "Did you do this?!"

"How could I have?!" Kayden yells back, "You saw me upstairs."

"Yes but you were the only person not in the living room with us earlier!" Karen exclaims.

Kayden becomes frustrated and mad, "I didn't do it" He yells. Suddenly there is a growl from the pantry. Sablemon bursts out and bites karen on the arm. Karen yells for help, "HELP! AH!"

"Sablemon no! Let go!" Kayden pulls sablemon off her.

Karen's arm is bleeding badly, she runs out the room. "What is that thing?!"

Tomoki races down the stairs, "What's going on?" He sees Karen's arm bleeding, "What happened?"

Karen says, "One of those monsters! In there with Kayden!"

Tomoki gets his digivice out, "Come on out, Volvomon"

Volvomon is out, "Yes Master?"

"Kill the monster inside of there! Save my son."

Volvomon goes into the kitchen and starts blasting at Sablemon who dodges deftly. "Aie! What did I do to you?" Sablemon throws one of his grenades at volvomon exploding the kitchen.

Tomoki yells, "Kayden! Kayden where are you?!"

Kayden coughs, "I'm here!"

Volvomon stops Tomoki from going to him, "Master, careful it's still right there."

Sablemon looks mad, "Go away!" He tosses another grenade at them this time volvomon catches it and tosses it outside.

Volvomon attacks Sablemon beating him to the ground.

Tomoki with an expressionless face says, "Kill him."

Kayden yells, "NO! Sablemon!"

Kayden's digivice reacts…

Sablemon digivolves into… Badgermon!

Badgermon stops the assault and throws Volvomon to the side. He then punches Tomoki out of the way and grabs Kayden. They escape out to the forest behind their house, after running for a few miles they rest just outside a park. Badgermon says, "I… I'm sorry. I just couldn't help myself! Everything was so new and interesting I wanted it all." Badgermon cries, "I'm sorry… I didn't mean to hurt anyone!"

Kayden hugs Badgermon, "It's ok! I was getting tired of being there anyway… Let's go to Milo's house!"

Badgermon perks up, "Ok! Where is that?"
