An everlasting amount of time had ticked away as darkness surrounded Dawn, but eventually she began to regain her consciousness at long last. Cracking her eyes open, her blurry vision focused to see Lucas looking down at her with a soft smile. "Welcome back..." Lucas gave a slight nod.

"Nnnggh..." Dawn rubbed her head to soothe the raging thunders of a headache she had as she sat up. "Hmm...what the...?"

"Thanks for waking up...Thought I was gonna have to take you to the nearest Pokémon center for a second!" Lucas breathed a sigh of relief.

"Uh-huh..." Dawn slowly got up and put a finger onto her chin in thought. "Uhmm...so what happened?"

Lucas tilted his head. "You don't remember the wild Bidoof? You were teaching me how to capture a Pokémon and-"

Dawn raised her hand with a nod. "Ah! Yes I did capture that!" She let out a giggle. "Isn't it neat? Actually, it's better to lower your target's HP more than I did."

Lucas in turn raised his hand. "Actually, the Bidoof knocked you out in one hit with a headbutt." Lucas also gave a giggle before pondering. "Are you okay? Dawn, how many fingers am I holding up?" He waved one finger at Dawn while the real version of events that transpired began to come back to her.

"Arggghhh, that darn Chimchar..." Dawn fumed with a pout as she gave a nod. "I'm alright, ol' Chimchar just loooooves to play pranks on me lately!" Dawn sighed with a smile. "Gah, if he wasn't so darn adorable..."

"I see." Lucas chuckled. "And I understand. I'm already forming a good bond with my Piplup!"

"Glad to hear! I always thought I should have began with a Piplup...My Chimchar might be messing with me because it knows..." Dawn chuckled and put a hand on Lucas' shoulder after. "I'm sorry for putting you in danger." She lowered her head with a frown.

"Oh no no, it was completely fine! Don't worry at all, you're a great teacher!" Lucas gave a thumbs-up with a cheer.

Dawn quickly perked up. "Thank you! Now, it's important to get the Pokémon's HP down as low as possible. A healthy Pokémon is very difficult to catch." She explained.

"Appreciate the information!" Lucas smiled. "But that Bidoof was pretty easy to capture...I managed to capture it in one go!" He cheered with a grin.

"Way to rub it in..." Dawn rolled her eyes with a sigh as she chuckled. "Kidding, nice work! OK, Lucas, to get you started, I'll give you some Poké balls!" Dawn nodded as she reached to her pockets and fumbled around for a bit.

"Huh...? I had some Poké balls to give you...where could they have-" Dawn tapped her cheek in thought before Lucas chimed in.

"I was so pumped to capture some Pokémon and you were unconscious for a while, so I may have taken them already..." Lucas scratched his head with a smirk.

"Eh, I suppose that's alright." Dawn smiled, though her smile turned into confusion as she searched more into her pockets. "Huh? I can't seem to find my money..."

"I don't know anything about that one." Lucas shrugged with a sheepish smile.

"Grrrr..." Dawn frowned as she gave a shrug. "Anyways, I suppose I should probably get going..."

"Hold up, you'll still teach me things, right?" Lucas asked.

"O-oh, you still want me to teach you?" Dawn's face lit up with a soft smile. "Even after this lesson went haywire?"

"Of course!" Lucas cheered as he put a hand on Dawn's shoulder. "I know you certainly don't get knocked out by any Bidoof you challenge." Lucas smiled with a chuckle. "But if you do, let me know in advance so I can get the camera ready." He smirked as him and Dawn shared a laugh.

"Gaaaahh, shuuuush about that!" Dawn whined with a chuckle. "Alright! If you have lots of Pokémon with you, it'll be safer on long trips. Plus, it'll be a lot more fun having your Pokémon friends along."

And thus this lesson marked the beginning of Lucas' legacy as a trainer. He learned all the neat tricks from Dawn, accomplished many great things, and never forgot the importance of having his Pokémon friends along for the ride - both Pokémon and human.
