"I don't understand, Principal Kobayakawa." One Sadayo Kawakami told her employer as she looked over the documents that she was handed. "Why are you putting two transfer students in my class? Surely, there has to be another teacher more qualified for this, isn't there?" Reading over them again, she couldn't help but feel nervous about said students. Ren Amamiya, a transfer from Yaso-Inaba who was expelled from his school after he was arrested for assault. Already, there were alarms ringing in her head warning her about this guy. Sure, he was on probation, and the school was going to do its best to reform him into a model citizen, but she still couldn't help but feel worried. And then there was the other student coming in, a complete mystery. His file said that he lived up in the middle of nowhere on Mt. Paozu and that he had high marks, almost perfect, but what was that young man hiding?
"Well, you did have two seats available, and all the other classes are full," The potato principal began to explain. "Besides, you are very much qualified to handle two extra students, and you can be assured that they will be on their best behavior. After all, Amamiya is on probation, so if he causes any trouble, just report it, and he'll be sent back to juvenile hall before you know it."
"I see…" Kawakami muttered. "Well, what about the other student? There's not much information on him. How can we be so sure that he is a fit for this school?"
"Ah, him, yes," Kobayakawa grumbled before he gave what was supposed to be a reassuring smile, but it looked rather awkward on his face. "Well, aside from his excellent marks on the entry exam, I actually took the time and got to know the young man. He is well-mannered, an example of a model student if it wasn't for his hair. Aside from that, however, you'll be happy to know that he is a good person."
As soon as he finished saying that, a knock was heard on the office door. "That must be one of the students," Kobayakawa muttered before clearing his throat. "Come in!"
The door opened to reveal a mature woman wearing a blue and white suit. She had her black hair tied up in a bun, with a few bangs framing her gentle face that held motherly eyes that had a small fire in them. "Ah, Mrs. Son, perfect timing!" Kobayakawa said with a smile on his face. "I was wondering when you'd show up!"
"A pleasure, principal." The matron said with a gentle smile as she gave a respectful bow. "It's nice to be here again. I thank you for giving my son the chance to attend your school." She looked behind her, noticing that her plus-one hadn't come into the room. "Gohan?"
As if on cue, a young man stepped in through the door. He was wearing the school uniform, a black blazer over a white button-up shirt, along with red, checkered pants, and a pair of sleek black shoes. What separated him from most, however, was his jet-black hair that defied gravity, save for a lone bang that reached his forehead. "Sorry, I was a bit distracted! I noticed the wall of awards on the way here and couldn't help myself!"
"Not to worry, young man. It is a pleasure to see some young men learning more about the institute they are to attend." The principal said as he reached over his desk to shake Gohan's hand. After a firm, yet gentle shake, the egg-shaped man turned towards the teacher. "Ms. Kawakami, this here is Chi-Chi Son, and her son, Gohan Son. Mr. Son here will be one of the two students that will be attending your class starting tomorrow."
"A pleasure to meet you two," Sadayo said in a collected voice as she gave a small bow to the pair. "My name is Sadayo Kawakami, and I will be your teacher for the school year. I hope you do well during your stay here." She then handed Gohan a lanyard with a card case latched to it, a school ID visible under the plastic cover. "This is your school ID. Remember to have it on you at all times, understand?"
"Understood, ma'am," Gohan said, not noticing the twitch in the teacher's eye. "Thank you for giving me the chance to study here, and for taking the time to teach me. I will do my best to meet your expectations."
Sadayo remained quiet for a moment, her gaze never breaking from Gohan before she closed her eyes and sighed. She couldn't stay mad at him. "Of course. I believe that you will be able to exceed them. Welcome to Shujin Academy."
With a nod and a smile, Gohan and his mother left the office, their hearts elated at the warm welcome. As they made their way through the halls of the school, Chi-Chi's smile turned into a motherly grin. "Oh, Gohan, I'm so proud of you!" She exclaimed as she gave her son's cheeks a pinch. "You've gotten into a city school and impressed the staff here! Soon, you'll be making friends, earning top marks, and then, maybe, you'll end up on the student council!"
"Ah, come on, mom!" Gohan yelped out, his face forming the traditional Son grin. "I just got here! Gimme some time to get used to this place, at least!"
"Oh, sure!" Chi-Chi relented, a beaming smile still on her face. "I'm just happy for you. You're moving up in the world! Soon, you'll be able to have an excellent life however you want! One that doesn't put you in so much danger."
Hearing his mother's words calmed the young man down as he gave her a gentle smile. "I know, mom. After going through so much, it'd be nice to relax for once and not have to worry about any threats for a while."
Gohan's mood became somber as his mind raced through said threats that he faced in his childhood: the Saiyans, the Ginyu Force, Frieza, Dr. Gero, Android 19, and Cell. All of them have disrupted his life in one way or another, but all of them having him deal with too much trauma in too short of a time. Six whole years, since he was four years old. Sure, there was the year spent in the Time Chamber, but that was spent training, not living. He shook his head out of those thoughts. All that was then, and this is now. He didn't have to worry about such things anymore, and if a new threat were to show up soon, he's sure that the other Z-Fighters could handle it. After all, while they have relaxed a bit, they didn't stop training, readying for the next fight.
Not like him, anyways.
He was brought out of his thoughts when he stopped himself from bumping into another young man wearing the school uniform and a pair of glasses accompanied by a middle-aged man with slicked back hair connected to a beard, a dapper white suit and hat combo, and a small pair of glasses as well. "Whoops, sorry about that." Gohan apologized as he and the other young man stepped away from each other.
"No, it's my fault, I should've paid attention to where I was going." The frizzy-haired young man replied before he and the half-Saiyan began to repeatedly apologize to one another, much to the amusement of Chi-Chi and the half-annoyance of the older man. "Come on, kid, we have to get this over with soon, you can talk to the students after we finish transferring you here."
Upon hearing those words, Gohan's eyes widened in surprise. "Oh, you must be the other transfer student, then!" He realized as he extended his hand for a shake. "My name is Gohan Son, I'm the other student transferring here."
The frizzy-haired student looked at the offered hand before giving it a firm, yet nervous shake. "Ren Amamiya. I hope we get along." He said, his expression remaining neutral, but Gohan's senses were telling him that the young man was somewhat unaccustomed to social activity for some reason.
"Another transfer, huh?" The bearded man muttered as he looked at Gohan impassively before he turned towards Chi-Chi. "Well, he seems well-mannered enough. Let's hope that the kid here can teach Ren some manners."
"Oh, you don't have to worry, Gohan is an excellent young boy!" The matron replied. "I'm sure they'll become friends before we know it!"
"Heh, that is a nice dream to have." The man said with a smirk on his face before he turned towards Ren. "Come on, kid. Let's get your stuff before you start tomorrow." With that, he and Ren made their way toward the principal's office, with Ren giving Gohan a wave of goodbye, the young half-Saiyan returning in kind before he and his mother began to leave the school.
As the mother-and-son duo discussed picking up Goten on the way out, Ren was deep in thought. That voice just now… who was it, and why did it just call Gohan "The King of Swords?" Could it be related to that Igor guy from his dreams? Just what was happening to the world now?
And what could this mean for the future?
