Chapter 3

As she analyzed her Avatar, she turned to look at other Avatars. Something was off about hers. She kept staring at it.

"Hey doc- it may be my head from cryo-sleep but doesn't my Avatar seem small?"

The scientist walked up to Ava. "Oh- I thought they had told you."

Ava raised her brow "Told me what?" Shaking her head slightly.

He spoke again clearing his throat a bit anxious he had to break the news "Well you see because of your human height- everyone else Avatar is at least 9-10 ft tall…"

"So?"

"Yours is about 8 ft tall."

Ava looked back at her Avatar "Is she healthy?"

The Scientist looked at the Avatar "Yes."

"Then it shouldn't be a problem- Just keep it under wraps from the rest of the group."

The scientist raised his brow slightly. He didn't quite understand what she meant.

"I'd rather them find out while linked with her than just blurted out." She said, slightly annoyed she had to explain it.

"Okay, We'll see you and the others back here soon" He'd smile at her.

"Go rest, oh- and just be sure to follow the instructions tomorrow, it should be smooth sailing from then on."

"Right, smooth sailing. Thanks Doc." She shook his hand saying goodbye.

She walked back through the way she came from, she didn't feel tired at all. But she knew it would hit soon.

She wasn't too worried about tomorrow's training trial, she'd still be doing the job she signed up for. Whether she got to be on Quaritch's A team.

Most soldiers had already returned to their bunker rooms to sleep.

Ava walked into Room B3. She picked whatever bunker was left. It was on the far left side of the room. She took her boots off, and took her bun out, fixing it into a low pony.

She rolled onto her thin dark green sheets. She would stare at the bunker above her seeing the worn out wood on it. She could hear people snoring very loudly.

They sounded like the jets she'd see over the bright blue skies when she first enlisted. She could feel the warmth of Mexico's air. She loved it there. Her eyes would slowly flutter to sleep.

A loud horn would sound, echoing through the quarters.

Ava spooked by it, adrenaline rushed through her as her eyes opened wide. She looked around as people got dressed. Buckling their belts, tying their boots, combing back their hair.

Shit shit! I'm so screwed these assholes didn't even bother to wake me.

Ava bounced off the bed quickly getting dressed. She assumed with these tests people were on edge to be on top.

I guess every man for themselves.

God it was too early for this, it's like 004 here. Suns not even up. Ai dios ayúdame.

She hoped she would run into Pax again. There were so many people in the room, it'd be hard to find him right now. From the little encounter between them she felt like she could act like herself. He was one of the first not to mention anything different about her.

She smiled at the memory as she quickly wrapped her hair back into a bun.

She'd walk into the Lab. Panting a bit. "Morning Doc" as she placed a bobby pin in her hair.

"Ready?" He stood smiling, the skin around his eyes wrinkled up.

"Sure like riding a bike right?" She'd follow the doctor to a neurolink chamber.

"No, these bikes are very delicate; they started their maturing process a few months before you even got a first class ticket here."

The chamber would slowly roll out of its makeshift hole in the wall.

He'd open up the chamber.

Ava loosened her bun slowly laying back into it. "Woah."

She quickly lifted her head up seeing others were already linked up.

She glanced at his name tag. Reed.

He looked down at her getting closer. "Okay Ava, once you get all sorted, do not- I mean it DO NOT storm out of the room like a bat outta hell."

Ava raised her brow "Okay? Y'know I'm not twelve Doc."

What type of idiot does he think I am? Who would storm out butt naked in their Avatar?

"Mhm sure." He'd click buttons next to the chamber. As the door slowly closed

"See you on the other side" she'd huff out smiling through the anxiousness.

She never really did any of the training stuff back on earth. They took any host that was willing to drive an avatar. It was one of the most extreme competitions to win career wise. Everybody wanted it. Some dying trying to get the privilege she received being here.

To see a completely new planet that hasn't been environmentally destroyed. Ava was lucky enough to see Norway. Rare to see green nowadays.

There's been only 2 teams sent off from earth to join this program. The one from a few years ago. And hers.

She'd shuffle a bit trying to get comfortable, felt like a big plastic table. Being clicked down by a white plastic frame wasn't so fun either.

Ava looked up at the ceiling as she felt herself move slowly into the chamber's hole.

She'd breathe shakily, she could feel her hands and legs go cold.

She'd fist her hands squeezing them tightly.

You'll be okay. Everyone else did it, they all looked fine.

She'd close her eyes.

Her eyes would move under her lids. As if she was in REM mode.

Feeling the sudden rush of colorful swirls moving through her mind, nothing she's ever seen or experienced. It felt like a rollercoaster ride.

A light beamed bright in her eyes. She squinted from it.

"Ava- wake up." A man would speak.

Two Med Techs with exo-masks would be in her face as a small flashlight was shined into her eyes.

Ava's vision and hearing felt muted as she tried to focus. She felt semi brain dead, just laying there. Unable to grasp her new body.

"She's responding to light, Her pupillary reflexes are looking good." Another tech with a deep voice would say.

Ava's vision and hearing slowly started to return. The other tech that was a darker skin complexion lightly clapped his hands at her narrow tall ears.

They'd flinch at the sound.

"Her pinna response is also good." The man would say.

The man with the deeper voice spoke "Feeling any motion sickness or dry mouth?"

She'd touch her face, it was soft but it also felt really thick. She'd raise one of her hands.

Giant.

She was shocked at how huge her hand would actually be. Her whole human head could fit in it.

She touched her brow bone, moving down to her cheeks, and nose. She'd lightly squeeze her nose.

Cat?

She squinted her nose, it felt like her human one, it for sure didn't look the same though.

"How do you feel Ava?" A man spoke. He and the Med Tech wore scrubs, and caps that covered their head, and a big oxygen pack on their backs.

She'd sit up slowly on the gurney. Noticing she was already dressed in training clothes, a Brown shirt tucked into camo cargo jeans. She didn't have any socks or shoes on though.

"Fine- I think." She would close her mouth feeling the inside of her mouth with her tongue. Two of her front teeth felt sharp.

She'd look up in the glass where her human self was in the link, she could see Reeds staring as he spoke over the intercom.

"Take it slow Ava, it takes more than a few minutes to adjust." He held a tablet tapping away at it.

"Understood."

They handed her a mirror. She looked at herself making angry expressions seeing her fangs.

"Kinda freaky Doc." She'd chuckled a bit from slight hysteria.

The techs would grin from the comment.

Reeds would quickly glance back smiling.

She touched her forehead feeling the stick pad on the left side. Looking around she could see wires from a monitor attached to different parts of her body.

"Okay Ava just a few more Sensory tests then in a few hours you'll be out with the rest of the group."

She nodded. As she sat there patiently.
