"Attention new students if you look out of your windows you will see your new home away from home, now I know you are excited but don't shove…" The batteries of my Mp3 player had just died and though it saddened me I had to pull out my cheap buds and hobble them into my skirt pocket together with my phone and player.

With nothing else to do, I sat on my seat listening to the dry humming of the helicopter wings mixed with the voices of my fellow freshmen as we were ferried by a Kaiba Corp-branded chopper.

But despite all that I found myself agreeing with the excitement that was bubbling in the chopper, we were looking at a tropical paradise, with a Hagia Sophia rip-off built into a dormant volcano. Truthfully, had I been a native of this world, I would have come here regardless of the immortality, I mean no fees in a state-of-the-art school with a guaranteed job as long as you graduated Ra or Obelisk? Sign me the fuck up.

The chopper slowed as we slowly approached the landing pads, three more of our kin following behind us, ours was the first chopper to touch down. And as soon as the rotors ground to a halt the door slid open. The first thing I noticed was the air, tickling my nose. It was fresh, and energising, the smell of the sea drifted even to hear. It was amazing. I felt a smile etching itself on my lips.

Like the rest of my peers, I unlatched my seatbelt, picked up my luggage and perched it on my back. The only things not in my suitcase were my cards, my phone, my player and my earbuds, everything else? In my case.

We slowly started filtering out onto the pad, gathering in the centre of it like a herd of cows. The first thing on our minds was the sights, I spotted a lake tucked in by the side of the volcano, surrounded by trees. It was a good place to run away to on midnights and roast some pork or beef.

Soon the foremost people of our herd started moving and we, like innocent cows, started following. At the end of the entrance two staff members were waiting for us, they pointed us to the staircase and we pushed along.

That led us through the tiled paved halls of Duel Academy, down the case we met another staff member who pointed us to a big open hall in the middle of the school. Which I took to be the auditorium, walking into the auditorium five obelisks stood side by side at the entrance beckoning us.

I pushed past the crowd to be the first one in front of them, "Please line up! We will provide you with uniforms," they had boxes stacked up behind them, which were most likely our uniforms and checklists in their hands.

"Name please," One of them asked, "Mira Heylel. Spelt as H.E.Y.L.E.L," I told him. He ran down his checklist before nodding, he pulled a uniform from the box behind him, "Obelisk blue, welcome to duel academy. And here is your academy issue duel disk."

Well fuck, I was a blueberry, that was going to be a problem from the fact that I had gone and fought the king of the dorm.

I inwardly groaned as I grabbed the uniform and disk off of him and walked away opting to seize a corner for myself. I was waiting as the hundreds of students slowly grabbed their uniforms. I grabbed the Obelisk and threw it over myself. It was bigger than me so it easily covered my black shirt and went down over my skirt and till my bloomers, I started to think about what I was going to do with my new duel disk before deciding to just latch it to my arm.

"Hello," My mind was pulled to the sound, and I saw a boy with a square jaw and hair perfectly made into an ice cream, "Bastion Misawa," He introduced himself and so I did, "Mira Heylel, aren't you the guy that came first in the written entrance exam?" He smiled with pride dripping from each bit of his lips, "Yes, that would be me. And you are the famous [Relinquished] girl."

"Oh? So everyone knows my ace is [Relinquished]?" He nodded, "And the girl who…" He was cut off, "Look here, the two stars of the entrance exams," A voice interpreted by us came from a man who had a rather…eccentric sense of dressing, Crowler.

"Sir, thank you for the compliment," I said with a bow to the man, he might have been a dick to Jayden but hey that's not my problem.

"Call me Doctor Crowler, and you two earned it. Not unlike someone I know, that blue blazer fits well on you Mira and Bastion, I am sure I will see you in one soon," He said, I nodded at him, "I am sure Doctor Crowler, I believe he deserves it even more than me."

He shook his head, "No Mira, I believe the decision was correct, you had the match under control from the start whereas Bastion struggled. Sure he had more life points at the end of the duel but life points only matter when they hit zero, anything above that? It's all equal. But yes he will have a blue blazer in the next placement tests. End of the month, don't slack off," He said as he walked away, "He was nice," I commented and Bastion nodded, "To us, you should have seen how he blew his gasket against Jayden."

And that's an issue because? "Who is Jayden?" He raised a brow, "He was the last to a duel, after me. He was a little late though," I shrugged, "I left to get some food after your fight. Probably why I didn't see him."

"Anyway," He said turning to me, "I was wondering if you would tell me about your deck, it seems a bit different from most others," As if I would tell him, I gave him a teasing smile and said, "Are you asking a girl for her secrets?"

His brows jumped and he quickly started shaking his head, "No! No! I had no such intentions!" The words rushed out his mouth and I laughed, "Don't worry Bastion I was just teasing you, as for my deck that's for you to figure out, you should be able to right?"

He breathed a sigh of relief, "Sure, I will try but some hint would be nice," I shrugged, "One word, consistent," He nodded as his brows furrowed together and said, "Let's exchange phone numbers if you want to, of course," I took out my phone and did so before he left.

Soom the uniform had been distributed and I could see many kids with two disks in their hands, one owned and one issued. Should have told us to not bring ours then. But whatever I guess.

"Good morning students," A screen started descending from a fissure in the ceiling as the speakers all around us burst to life.

He started speaking and I turned him out.

—————————————————————

I clicked the door to my room open, the deadbolt sliding back as my key turned. As I pushed the door in I was greeted with sights of a queen size bed resting just beneath a window that had a beautiful view of the river flowing underneath the dorms. A chandelier took care of the lighting and the drawer stood next to the bed with a closet built into the wall. This room as some would put it, was love at first sight.

I pulled myself in before shutting the door close behind me. And tossed the suitcase on my bed, and opened it, which to my disappointment reminded me, I had almost nothing in terms of a wardrobe, some essentials and some casual clothes, that was it. I would need to buy more things soon. And I wanted to build another deck too.

Despite having next to nothing it had taken me an hour to arrange my room and when I looked at the clock it was nearly seven. I sighed as I threw myself onto my bed. What to do now? I was bored, I had ordered components of a computer shipped here, it would take till tomorrow before it was here and we would be getting our books tomorrow as well. So I had essentially nothing to do.

Desperate to fill my time with something I remembered today Jayden and Chazz were supposed to duel right? Fine, I will go watch two teens have a pissing contest over who is the better Yugioh…player, what has my life come to?

I pushed myself off the bed as my boots clicked on the hardwood floor, in one step I was at the door and in the next, I moved out of the room.

Locking the door behind me I took the stairwell down into the girl's common room, many girls walked around the room, some waved at me but I ignored them as I headed for the exit, only to be stopped by a familiar voice reaching out, "Mira!" My feet turned around, "Alexis?" I called out to the blondie and from the corner of my eye, I caught sight of her two lackeys. They walked in step as they reached me, Alexis smiled and said, "We were wondering if you like to look around the school with us."

"Why not, I am Mira Heylel, you two?" I asked her two lackeys, and they introduced themselves, one was "Mindy," and the other was "Jasmine."

I walked a step ahead of them and they fell behind as we started, "Where first?" Mindy asked, "I wanted to see our duelling arena," I replied to her and turned to the blonde, "Any issue?" She shook her head, "Oh God! You too?" Jasmin groaned from behind, and I gave her a questioning look, "All Alexis ever talks about is duelling, we don't need another!" I recoiled a little, "So what do you…" Madison cut me off, "What do you think of the boys?"

"Let's just talk about duel—" Madison, that little cunt, cut me off again, "Nope! You have to tell."

I breathe an audible sigh, "I don't even know many on the island, just two really, Zane and Bastion. And I would not date either."

Madison grumbled, "Well at least at face value, which one do you think is cute? I think that Jayden boy is…" I gave her the most unimpressed look I could muster, "Who?"

"Wait really? He's the talk of the school, he bested Crowler's deck. And Crowler was using his real deck, not a proctor build," I shrugged, "He's a good duellist then. Good for us, more practice."

"You are Alexis 2.0 do you know that?" Jasmin said as I heard giggles from my side, the blonde was giggling at us, "See? This is what I have to deal with daily," She said as I shifted my eyes from her and onto the rip-off main building.

"Well, let's bicker later," I said as I pointed to the door, "Let's explore first."

Mindy and Jasmine talked amongst themselves as we walked inside, my boots clicked crisp on the tiled hallways, as we walked them, the sounds of other students exploring the building did not go unheard as we walked around the hallway and whenever we came across other kids they specifically greeted me and Alexis all but ignoring the two lackeys, it must have stung the two but they did not show it. It was funny how much your street credit was dependent on a card game.

Walking by my eye caught on the crest of the Obelisk etched over one door, I shared a look with the three, they shook their heads, but no one knew what it was, "Chazz check it out! The gyroscope, it's so cool."

Well, that's one mystery down, the Obelisk Arena. We walked through the entrance and as expected, Chazz and his two lackeys were there, Chazz was sitting in one of the spectator seats while his two goons were running around the arena.

"What are you girls doing here?" Chazz asked leaning back into the blue chair, "Checking out the arena," I answered and Alexis continued, "I take it you are doing the same Chazz?"

He grunted, proclaiming, "Yeah, taking the lay of the land so that I can crush on it," I shrugged, "Of course, you have the high ground after all."

Wait, have the Star Wars movies been released yet? Probably. Will have to look that one up.

"The what?" Chazz asked, and Alexis gave me a raised brow, "Just forget about it, It's a reference. Star Wars."

"Oh, you watch American movies?" He asked, "Yep."

"Anyway, where were we? Oh right, I will crush you in a duel sooner or later Mira. Watch out. And you too Alexis. I will prove that I am the best duelist in our year," He said as he stood up and started walking down, and another voice interrupted us, "Wow! This has got to be the sweetest…" Jayden paused as he finally realised that we existed, behind him, Syrus came huffing, "Hey guys," Jayden immediately raised his hand as he started towards us.

Mindy from behind added unnecessary information, "That's Jayden, the guy who bested Crowler."

And one of Chazz's lackeys scoffed, "A fluke. No way a slacker beats Crowler," I couldn't care less, "Hello there, you are the famous Jayden?"

"Don't know about famous yet but I am Jayden Yuki," And then he pointed to the two-foot short stack next to him, "This here is Syrus Truesdale."

"Truesdale? Zane's brother?" I asked despite already knowing.

The little guy's head lowered and he answered in a lowered tone, "Yeah I am his brother," I put my hand on his shoulder and pushed him upright, "Don't be disappointed, you have already made a better first impression than he did."

His eyes widened, "Wait really!?" I nodded, "Yep, you don't have confidence but at least you don't have a stick up your ass as he does."

He recoiled at my words as did Alexis, "Wow, you don't have a good impression of the guy do ya?" Jayden asked.

I shook my head and removed my hand, "Don't worry about it. Anyway, you are Jayden Yuki, your victory made the rounds," I told him and he scratched the bird's nest he called hair, "Well, it was obvious I was going to win, I am the best Duellist in the academy after all!"

That's some confidence, and there might be merit to that too, after all, protagonist kun doesn't lose, and even if he does he only comes back stronger.

But Chazz's lackeys took offence to his words, "Really slacker? Chazz was the best in the prep school and he will be the next king of games. No way you are the best!"

"Huh? What are you saying? He can't be the next King, that's impossible since that's exactly what I am going to be," He said in the tone one would use when saying that the sun rises from the east, this man had no hesitation.

Chazz's two lackeys started laughing and one said, "A Slifer slacker as king of games? That will be the day."

Chazz cut in, "Shut up you two. Maybe he will be, who knows? He did beat Crowler after all and that rare monster of his, I suppose that takes some skill," He then paused for dramatic effect before smirking, "Or was it just luck? I say we find out."

Jayden's face mimicked Chazz, "Bring it…" But both were cut off by Alexis, "Hate to break it to you two. But we have a welcome dinner soon."

Chazz's eyes turned to his watch, "Ugh. Fine, let's go, you two," He followed his words leaving us there. Alexis turned to the two Slifers, "Sorry if Chazz rubbed you the wrong way, not all of us Obelisks are like that. He is just a jerk, especially to Slifers," her teeth clenched as she spoke the last part.

"Agh," Jayden just smiled and said, "Those types don't bother me at all, besides…"
