Welcome dinner, I don't know about the other dorms but ours was not a dinner, it was a banquet. Good drinks and quality food. But there was one problem: the sheer number of annoyances that wanted to talk to me. Sticking with Alexis solved that problem. But as the clock approached the eleventh hour the attendees started to fizzle out. The last of the pork had been bitten into and the mutton was about to finish. I scanned the room and finally, my eyes caught him, Chazz standing by a backdoor alone, duel disk armed with cards. He was going to sneak out. I was bored and had nothing to do, so it was obvious what I was going to do, watch a yugioh duel underneath the beautiful moon, again I wondered what my life has come to.

I suppressed my desire to groan as I saw Chazz dump a paper cup full of coke out the window and elbowed the blonde next to me and pointed at him, "What?" She asked, "He looks like he wants to sneak out," She raised an eyebrow and muttered, "He has his duel disk."

"Wanna bet he and Jayden are gonna duel?" I asked her, and she rolled her eyes and said, "I am gonna stop him," I caught her shoulder and shook my head, a playful smirk developing on my lips, "You want to watch them duel too right?" Her eyes shook for a moment and her teeth clenched, it took a moment before she admitted it, "Yeah."

I shifted my hand from her shoulder to her wrist and pulled her along, "Let's go then." We stuck to the sidelines, there were a few kids outside enjoying the air so the two of us going out didn't look too suspicious.

Still, me and Alexis sneaking out was bound to draw attention, but I just opted to ignore it. After all, I could deal with any tattletales later.

Outside we moved quickly to catch up to him. When we were a bit from the dorm I said loudly, "We are going to watch too." He paused at my voice that hit him from behind, he turned around with a straight face, "What?"

"Oh come on, you are duelling Jayden aren't you?" His eyes widened as he dribbled out, "How? How do you know?" I giggled, "It's a bit too obvious, with how you two are, you would want to duel as soon as possible. Also, did you look around, other than Zane and you no one had a disk, you know that right?"

"So you figured it out over that?" Nope, I watched the anime and you will never know that, I shrugged in response, "So are we going or not?"

He sighed and nodded, "We are," He said as he raised his hands in surrender.

—————————————————————

Chazz and Jayden had planned to duel in the Obelisk arena, which as I rightly told them was a fucking stupid idea. Still, to their credit, managing to convince them to shift the whole thing to the clearing by the lake I had spotted from the landing pad was easy enough.

We had already arrived there as we waited for the lad in red. Chazz had his number so he was checking in on him every five to ten minutes.

"You are surprisingly good at this sort of thing Mira," Alexa said as she sat on my left and Chazz added from my right, "She is a bandit."

I patted the fallen trunk that we had made our sofa, "I am not good at it, you two are just terrible at it. I mean come on, duelling in the Arena? That's just asking to get caught."

"You know, Zane was right, you would make a good leader," Fuck off blonde, "No thanks…" Chazz cut me off, "As if, I am going to be the next Obelisk leader. Why? Cuz I am the best duelist this year."

I shrugged, "Chazz, I have no interest in it in the first place, and besides, you still have to prove that last part," He scoffed, "Are you challenging me?" I shook my head and pointed to the blond beside me, "You still have to beat her and Bastion after Jayden."

He snorted, "One at a time," I nodded. At least he was not foolish.

We stopped talking, and then after a few minutes, the rustling of bushes alerted us. The green parted to give way to two dots of red, "Chazz, Alexa, Mira!" Jayden announced his arrival with a shout, we were fortunate that this place was surrounded by trees otherwise the echo would have altered the whole island.

"Took you long enough," Chazz said as he stood up and Syrus said as he came out from behind Jayden, "This is a bad idea Jayden."

"Shut it," Chazz said as he activated his duel disk, "Ready Jayden?"

"You bet! Time to get your game one Chazz," He said as he mimicked Princeton by pressing a button below the disk. The arm connecting the disk to the dynamo elongated and the disk was deployed.

Chazz-4000

Jayden-4000

"Alright slacker, I go first, draw!" He said, "Now I summon [Reborn Zombie(1600 def)] in defence mode and set a card face down."

"Well, that was one way to start. But I am going to go bigger," Jayden said as he pulled his next card, "Here goes!..."

[A/N: No cannon duels sorry.]

The duel continued, exactly as it did in the anime, the only difference was that it won't be interrupted this time, I watched as Chazz cleared the field with his blast. And Call of the Haunted into tribute chained for [Memphis the infernal General(1800 Atk)].

Then Jayden drew, and smiled, "You know Chazz? My cards? We have a bond! And let me show you its strength! I activate [Monster reborn] to bring back [E-Hero Flaming WingMan(2100 atk)]

Chazz-1500Lp

Jayden-550Lp

One card, he drew the exact card he needed to win, such bullshit, Chazz's field had only two cards, one face down and the other his monster. God damn it.

"Go attack with Infernal Fire Rage!" Jayden shouted but Chazz smirked, "Not so fast Jayden, I activate my face-down card! [Ring of Destruction] and I choose your [Flaming Wingman!] This card destroys an attacking monster and we both take damage equal to its attack points!"

The holograms worked their magic, Flaming wingman opened its hand/jaw thing and a ring of grenades wrapped around his neck and it all went boom!

Chazz-1500-2100=0

Jayden-550-2100=0

Alexis jumped up and shouted, "Amazing Duel!" I followed her lead and clapped my hand, "Great plays guys."

Syrus rushed forward and hugged him, "Jayden that was slow close, you almost beat Chazz."

But more than any of us it was Jayden he rubbed his nose and with a bright smile approached Chazz, "Man! That was a great duel! I have to make my deck better before our next match, Chazz."

Chazz clicked his tongue, "At least your skills are real. Next time I will crush you!"

Both of us girls also joined the motley crew, "That was good Jayden, really if you didn't get Monster Reborn Chazz would have won and if he didn't have Ring of Destruction, you would have won. It all came down to the last cards. That was exciting to watch," I threw in what I thought about the match.

In the anime too none of them won, interrupted by security I think. At least I don't think either of them did. It has been forever since I watched the anime, I only remember the plot points now.

"Yes you two, it was down to the wire," Alexis said, "You two should do this more often…we all should."

Jayden as usual just smiled and nodded, "Definitely, if it's duelling you can call me up anytime!"

—————————————————————

We split up with Chazz at the Girl/Boy dorm divider, "So? How was it?" I elbowed the blonde who rolled her eyes, "It was against the rules."

"Oh come on. This is the best time of your life. After this, we have the adult world to deal with. You won't remember what your teacher told you in some class about a card. You will remember watching a duel under the midnight moon, and the excitement of seeing the best-going head to head. What's the point of being on an island paradise if you don't enjoy it?" I said to her, it was what I thought. I am not a good person, to me, someone only has value as long as they are useful. But that does not mean I am a robot. I knew how important having fun was, how important it was to enjoy your youth because…I know age does not do us humans, any favours.

"I see. So that's what you two were doing?" We froze as we turned to look at the woman behind me, "Miss Fonda," I said sheepishly, "You two were out in the middle of the night, on the first day no less, breaking curfew and duelling with boys?" I clamped up, "Well, cats out of the bag, is it?" I asked as I received a glare from Alexis.

"Yes, it very much is," The woman crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing at us, "Honestly you two. You are our best two girls. If you show such behaviour then what do you think will happen?" She was pissed, and Alexis sighed, "Miss we apologise this will not be repeated…" Nope it will, I can guarantee it. Because you guys might become my tools in my grab for immortality and what use are blunt tools? You will fight, you will lose and you will become sharper.

"At least tell me why you thought it was a good idea," She said as her hands rubbed her forehead, "We didn't," I told her, she looked exasperated as she asked us again, "Then why?"

I looked her dead in the eye and answered, "Because I felt making the memory was worth it," I have dealt with many people in my life and one thing I have learnt is, if you want to lie, lie with full confidence. Lie while looking the opponent dead in the eye.

She let her breath go and looked at Alexis, "Was it?" Alexis' eyes switched between me and her and after a few seconds of deliberation she nodded, "It was."

Fonda Fontaine's lips twisted around before finally settling into a smile, "Good. The rules are for your safety, don't let me catch you again."

Alexis' eyes shot open as her lips opened to say something I didn't let them as I pulled her along.

"Thanks miss," I spoke to the woman as I pulled the blonde along.

"So no regrets? Aye?" I asked her when we reached her room, "You know Mira, you are one of the most anti-social, social people I have ever seen. And yes I have no regrets. And more than that I think we will make great friends," She said as she offered me her hand for a shake and I took it, "Sure."
