Takya has always been popular for hosting parties. He's been preparing for the day his parents go abroad again, this week happens to be the day they left for the whole weekend. The school has been buzzing about it as the day is finally here.
Rika is walking fast through the hallways as she keeps trying to get rid of Ryo. Ryo on the other hand keeps catching up to her and continues to bother her.
"Come with me as my date princess." Pleaded Ryo. "You wouldn't want to be alone at the party, right?"
She rolled her eyes. "Would you stop calling me princess? And for your information it's not like a prom, it's a party. Everyone's going, so I'll probably hang out with the girls."
"But it'll give us a chance to talk and reminisce about what we had. I didn't like how we ended; we should see if the spark is still there. Don't say you haven't been thinking about me."
"I'm not going to spend a Friday night at a party doing couples counseling while everyone else is enjoys themselves." She spoke.
Rika and Ryo were dating for over a year after their events. She assumed that his ego and constant picking on her was his way of flirting, but she came to realize that their personalities were complete opposites. She kept to herself, and Ryo was just as hot headed as some google heads that she knows of.
"Listen, I'm not taking another answer besides a yes; I'll pick you up at 7?" Ryo disclosed with a huge smile on his face.
It's like she knows every single move he's going to pull. Before this used to be one of his great gestures to show he's into her. Of course, what kind of teenage girl wouldn't swoon to that. However, it just proves that he doesn't listen or respect her decisions.
At this moment she sees Koji passing by surrounded by girls berating him with questions. Even though he isn't much of a quiet guy who keeps to himself anymore, he's still considered a lone wolf throughout the campus. The girls would be so fond of his dark appearance and his emotionless tone with them. They've always wondered why he only acts differently with his closest friends.
"Will we see you there Koji?"
"Let's take a shot together tonight."
"Do you want to go with me as a date?"
Suddenly Rika gets an idea, there may be a way to get rid of Ryo after all. The opportunity is right in front of her.
"You know what?" She turns to face Ryo, "I've decided to go with someone after all."
Ryo cheered, "Finally, it about time you changed your mind princess!"
"Hey Koji!" she turns to him and shouts, "You're taking me to the party. Pick me up at 7."
Koji gives her a thumbs up as he continues walking; nothing more, nothing less. The girls around him stopped following him and are now pouting, "That could've been me..."
Ryo is obviously upset about what just happened, but he doesn't say anything to her. Instead, he gives her half a smile and leaves.
'Finally, I'd thought he'd never leave me alone.' She thought.
As she continues walking, she realizes something. She did the exact thing to Koji as what Ryo was doing to her. Without even asking him properly she was now forcing him to take her.
She grabs her phone out of her pocket and dials Koji.
"Hey, what's up?"
"Sorry for basically forcing you to take me. I just-"
"There's no need to explain, I saw what was going on by your expression. I figure he's still bothering you?"
She smiled. "Not anymore, thanks."
It went quiet for a moment, so she felt it was the right time to tell him the reason she called.
"Listen Koji, we don't really need to go together… but I'll see you at the party, ok?"
He thought for a second. "... I'll still pick you up."
"Oh..." Rika said surprised. "Yeah ok. See you at 7 then."
She couldn't help but smile the rest of the day.
Tai, Mimi, Sora, and Matt are eating at a table outside a convenience store. Tai is discussing how the soccer team is pulling pranks on him. The table is filled with laughter.
"I'm telling you the truth!" Tai claimed. "One moment my clothes are sitting on the bench right beside me, the next they're hanging right on the soccer net. I had to run across the field while I held on to my towel for dear life!"
Matt is trying to contain his laugher. "I'm sure they were just congratulating you for making the final goal."
"By mortifying me!? Ugh, as the captain I should be respected by my teammates. I swear I'll figure out a way to get back at Takuya and the rest."
"What makes you think it's Takuya?" Mimi questioned.
"To be honest I don't, I just want to have someone to blame." The group chuckled in disbelief.
Tai changed the subject and looked at Sora and Matt. "So, are you two going to Takuya's party later on?"
Matt doesn't seem intrigued by the new topic. All he says is a simple 'eh.'
Sora adds more to his vague response, "You know Matt doesn't enjoy social gatherings as much as you do."
"Come on," Mimi frowns. "At least take Sora out occasionally. You two already seem like an old married couple." Tai nodded in agreement.
Sora looks towards Matt. "What do you say? Up for a little change in our daily routine?"
Matt just shrugs as he continues to eat.
"Well, I'm excited." Mimi says as she tries making the conversation light-hearted. "It's my first time since coming back from America. Tai promised me he'll stay by my side once I start drinking too much."
Tai is frozen in shock and immediately corrects her. "I said I'll stay by your side the whole night to make sure you don't over drink! You make it sound like I'm a predator!" Mimi giggles as gives him a slice of her food. He immediately forgets about it.
Matt smiles as he sees Tai blushing. "You two seem to be a in a happy mood."
"Well…" Mimi turns to face Tai. "He's been asking to hang out with me, so I'd figured the party would be a date, just to see how things go."
Sora drops her chopsticks as she's taken aback by what she just heard. The two of them stared at her in confusion, while Matt looked curious. He decides to keep a mental note on her responses to this conversation.
She coughs trying to make it seem casual. "You two are dating?"
"Umm…" Tai scratches the back of his neck. "We're seeing how things go."
"Tonight?" They both seem puzzled by her question.
"They mean in general Sora." Matt tells her irritably.
"Don't tell the others yet." Mimi pleads. "I don't want to get anyone's hopes up. We want to let things sail slowly right Tai?"
"Yeah, nice and slowly." He says as he pokes her cheeks.
Matt laughs in amusement. "Seems to me Tai's ship has sailed far off the coast."
Tai rolls his eyes. "Speaking of sailing, I better go pick up Kari from her study group."
"Let me come too," said Mimi. "We can stop by and get a housewarming gift for Takuya."
As they're walking away Tai is heard mentioning that a gift isn't necessary for a high school party, but Mimi disagrees. Matt continues to eat in peace but sees Sora contemplating. She seems to have lost her appetite.
Ever since they were young it seemed that Tai always had a thing for Sora. They had their small awkward moments during their adventures, but it never led to anything further. Once she started dating Matt, Tai was flustered by the news. Even so he has always respected their relationship, so why is it that she can't return the favor as well? 'Why do I feel... like I'm losing someone special…' Sora thought.
She has no idea what to do, all she knows is that she's going to that party. "I better start heading out, I have no idea what I'm going to wear."
Matt has an idea where this is leading up too. The question is, will he decide to put a stop to this or is he willing to see this play out?
"I'll go to the party with you." he exclaimed.
"What?" she said anxiously. "No, you don't have to go, just stay home. I'll be sure to text you."
He has had enough at this point. First, she wanted him to go with her and now she doesn't want him there. He decides to get colder with her. "They look like a cute couple, don't you think?"
Sora is stunned by his question; she continues to just stare down at her food.
Matt starts to pack up, he doesn't say anything else and leaves her alone.
To be continued.
