She sat there with a cold, wet cloth, trying to reduce his fever as much as she could. Bilbo volunteered to go find King's Foil for everyone who needed it. Seems as though the entire line of Durin did.

Thorin woke up screaming, which woke her up from the chair she was sitting in.

"Run Fíli! Run Kíli! Stay clear of the tunnels!"

"Thorin! Bain, come help me get him back down!"

Bain ran over to help his sister get Thorin back down on his bed, which was not as much of a struggle as they thought.

"Lie still, Thorin. Lie still. You're in shock."

Thorin laid back down and stared up at her as she tended to him.

"I've seen you before, young lass."

"I'm Sigrid, Bard the Bowman's eldest."

"Sigrid. Did you volunteer to tend to my wounds?"

"None of the other humans would. They felt they had lost too much by your hands already. But that dragon had to die."

Just then, Bilbo came walking into the healing tent with the King's Foil Thorin needed. Thranduil had his healers tending to others, Óin was tending to Fíli, and Tauriel was tending to Kíli. Balin had come in to tend to Thorin. There was only so much Sigrid could do.

"How is he?"

"He woke up in shock a few minutes ago. I can't really tell if his fever is going down."

"Bilbo, hand me the King's Foil. Lass, you may want to step out for a bit. There are parts of him I need to tend to that you shouldn't see."

"Of course."

She walked out of the tent and took the time to think about the future. Will Thorin now keep the promises he made to everyone? Only time will tell. Who knows whether the line of Durin would live?

"How is he, Sigrid?"

"Da! You scared me!"

"I'm sorry, but how is he?"

"He seems to be doing alright. Balin is tending to him now. I will go back in when he's done."

"Let me know when he is well enough to speak."

"I will, Da."

Sigrid was scared for the next interaction between Thorin and her father. The last one did not go well.

"Alright, lass. You can come back in. And see if you can get some food into him."

"I will."

To her surprise, Thorin was sitting up. He had put a shirt on before she came back in.

"You're back."

"Balin said I could come back in. How is your fever?"

"I think it has gone down."

"Balin also said I should try to get some food into you. I don't know what there is available."

"Whatever you can find will work for me."

"Alright, then. I'll go look."

"Thank you for tending to me, Lady Sigrid."

"It's no trouble."

Sigrid really did feel sorry for him, maybe even some empathy. She could not blame the dwarves for wanting their homeland back. But what would happen to everyone else now? Sigrid found some bread and broth, something simple but filling enough for Thorin. She walked back to Thorin's tent and found her father there, talking with Thorin.

"You want to rebuild Dale?"

"By birthright, I should. Girion is my ancestor, and I owe it to the people of Lake-Town."

"And how will you rebuild it? We all need to last through the rest of winter first."

"And how will we do that?"

"I found broth and bread for you, Sir Oakeshield. It's something to fill your belly."

"Thank you, young lady. You called my name earlier. Why not address me by that now?"

"Out of respect, sir."

"If you say so. We need a plan to survive during the winter."

"King Thranduil has offered to take people to the Woodland Realm until spring comes."

"Yes, but I'm not sure us dwarves will be welcome in the Woodland Realm. My company will probably stay in the Iron Hills, until spring comes."

"We will all still need help elsewhere."

Just then Gandalf arrived in Thron's tent, with an idea on where to get help.

"I may have a solution."

"Were you listening at the door, Gandalf?"

"Of course I was."

"And what is this, solution you have?"

"Thranduil has already agreed to this, and Dain surprisingly, so hopefully you both do as well. We send an envoy to Narnia."

"Why Narnia?"

"Your family is there, Thorin Oakenshield. Yours as well, Bard."

"What family could we possibly both have there?"

"The royal family of Narnia themselves. King Albanach, Queen Rosheen, King Lunradmund, and Queen Eibhlilín. As well as Queen Caoilfhionn of Terebinthia."

"Caoilfhionn?! I thought she died along with her mother, Gandalf!"

"No, she is alive and well, Thorin. And married to the heir of the throne of Ettinsmoor."

"You've already sent an envoy, haven't you?"

"Yes. An eagle, because Caoilfhionn's husband is also King of the Eagles."

"And how long will it take for an answer back to us?"

"Who knows?"

And with that, Gandalf, Balin, and Bard walked out of the tent, leaving Thorin and Sigrid alone.

"Is there anything else I can do for you, Thorin?"

"So, now you use my name? You waited until everyone left."

"Again sir, it was out of respect."

"Then I need to return the favour, Sigrid, Lady of Dale."

Sigrid smiled and looked down at her shoes to keep her eyes off of Thorin.

"No need to respect me, sir. All I've done is tend to your wounds."

"And that in and of itself is a great accomplishment. Your father told me a lot of you thought I wouldn't make it."

"I only did what I know. I'm not as skilled in the healing arts as I'd like to be."

"You'll be experienced one day."

"I'll leave you to get more rest, Thorin."

"Thank you, my lady."

Sigrid walked out of the tent and went to go find the she-elf Tauriel, who was still tending to Kíli in his tent.

"Is there anything I can help you with, Lady Tauriel?"

"No need for formalities and titles, my girl. But could you see if there is anything for Kíli to eat?"

"I just found bread and broth for Thorin, the same should suffice for Kíli."

"Good. How is Thorin?"

"His fever seemed to be going down when I left his tent. He did cry out in shock at one moment, but that was before the kingsfoil."

"We have people searching all around for any kingsfoil they find."

"I imagine so. My father said that King Thranduil is letting people stay in the woodland realm for the winter, until spring comes around and we can rebuild the city of Dale."

"I do hope that is the case."

"And the company of dwarves will be going to the Iron Hills."

"Then so will I. I won't be leaving Kíli's side."

"And there's talk of rebuilding Dale."

"By right, it should be. But right now, we all need to focus on the present for there to be a future."

"I'll go get the bread and broth that Kíli needs."

"Thank you, Sigrid."

Sigrid went to find more broth and bread for Kíli, and on her way, she prayed to whatever gods were listening, that everyone would make it through the winter and come back to their homes.
