Rose was, to put it mildly, annoyed.
She had been travelling with the Doctor for 2 years now, and yet they still managed quite a few firsts. These firsts were often amazing, like waves frozen in time, or a planet that gently rained diamonds, or a matriarchal planet where everyone raised ducks the size of teacup chihuahuas. Then, there were firsts that were absolute rubbish, like nearly being murdered by clockwork droids while your best mate/man you were desperately in love with was drunk on banana daiquiris with a french piece of elegant fluff. Or having your face stolen by a television set. Or being thrown naked into a habitat as part of an alien zoo, which had been lacking in humanoids.
Like, right now, that was what was happening.
At first she was too embarrassed by her nudity to do anything but sit in the corner, knees up, arm across her breasts. After a while, she figured out that nobody was coming outside of zoo staff, who didn't seem to look at her twice.
Of course they wouldn't, she was like an otter to them or something.
She very slowly began actually looking across the room, surprised that it didn't really have as much of a fishbowl feeling as she'd feared. There was a set of rocks in the far back that had a small intergalactic toilet sign, and as she stepped up to it, she could see little steps going down to what looked kind of like an airport toilet, it was metal, had a flusher, a place to wash her hands… so they at least knew humanoids used that, and also liked privacy. She didn't fancy making a wee in front of a group of people while popping a squat on some leaves, and she appreciated the zookeepers' forethought with that.
...Well, that was an uncomfortable train of thought. She felt a bit like a pet as she used the facilities, squeaking as her bum touched cold metal. Welp, that made it easier to go, at least. She washed her hands, and checked out the rest of this… kind of spacious place she now had, with no signs of a way out that she could see.
There was nice vegetation, it looked kind of like a wealthy person's backyard, with flowering trees and a hammock, and a pool on the other side. It was designed to look kitschy, as zoos were - how cute to see the humanoid laying on a hammock, or swimming in the little pool with the decorative rocks?
She spent hours trying to find any weaknesses in the walls, the large window for people to look in, the smaller fishbowl one. Nothing. It was all solid, even the door on the side for the staff to enter.
She was too upset to even eat, she just laid despondently in her hammock.
She wanted the Doctor, she didn't like this situation, but she liked even less not knowing where he was. She felt left behind again, waiting for him to save her, to remember her to save her… she nursed a lot of hurt after Versailles, and even though she'd tried to move on, she had found part of herself unable to without talking through her new insecurities with him. But that was a conversation he would rather walk on his lips than actually have, so she had just… let it go.
Sort of.
Not really.
She was fine.
But she found herself unable to leave her bed the next day, only able to tell day from night due to the lights changing colour. The ceiling shone with little led style glitter lights to look like the night sky, and she watched it with fascination until it changed to an alien day sky. She could occasionally hear people speaking English as they changed out her food, but she wasn't able to fight them. They always came in to a protected area that she could see them, but not touch them.
Would be useless to fight them without having a game plan, either, and she didn't know enough about the place to have one.
At least the translation meant the Tardis was close by.
"Look at this poor sadd'un right here," sighed the female zookeeper. Rose turned away from her, looking at the other wall. "Think she's depressed without her mate?"
"Probably, poor thing," the older male said. He was a bit portly, his skin orange and his hair silvery. The woman was a lithe thing, purple hair and purple skin, both wearing outfits like Steve Irwin.
Maybe certain zookeeping fashions translated the Universe round.
"Don't you worry bumblebee, he's almost ready to join you. We just needed to remove the shrapnel and then decide how soon to get you two started."
She peeked her head up, looking at them both. Started? Started on what?!
"Awww, look at her, its like she knows," the older male cooed.
"He'll be back tomorrow, girl. You're gonna wanna eat up really well, so you'll be ready! Otherwise we can't bring him. Okay?"
Rose blinked a bit. Welp, blackmail was a great way to force Rose to eat. She sighed in irritation and climbed out of the hammock, walking slowly over to the little garden table and bitterly crunching on the purple carrot looking thing. She made a show of turning her nose up at the meat, hoping the zookeepers would notice.
They did.
"Oh, Wren, do you think she might be an herbivore?"
Ever since they landed in that slaughterhouse on Zxzx, you bet your arse she was. That was more animal viscerae than she had ever thought possible within a 2 hour period.
"Looks like it. We didn't find anything but plant matter in her stomach when we brought her in. Her breed's teeth are set for being able to be opportunistic omnivores, but maybe the specific culture she came from are herbivores…."
They were studying her, she realised. Likely, each creature trapped here was being studied by its own group.
"Well, she is eating in any case. Good girl, you're a very good girl. Yes you are! Get good sleepies, and then you get to see your mate again!"
The food didn't taste the worst, but she'd really never been fond of carrots.
By the time she finished, the food felt heavy in her stomach, and she flopped into her hammock after doing her nightly routine in the… well, the rocky en suite. She would see the Doctor tomorrow.
Rose heard a bit of clatter, which startled her awake.
She was warm. Ridiculously so, it felt like she had a fever. She tried to sit up, but found it difficult to move. She raised a hand to her forehead, scenes from the past few days flashing before her eyes in rapid succession.
She and the Doctor had landed on a planet that she couldn't pronounce the name of. They'd landed in the wrong time, way too far in the future. The planet wasn't a nature reserve any more, it was an intergalactic zoo.
The Tardis landing had set off some alarms, and some new security guard had fired a weapon at Rose that had looked like a ball, and she had barely had time to blink before the Doctor had jumped onto her, shielding her with his body as it exploded. She'd hit the wall, and clearly been knocked out.
She'd woken up here, in a human enclosure, separated from the Doctor. Now, they were supposed to be bringing him back to live with her, they'd said so!
Why was she so warm…? She purred a bit at the feel of the hammock. It was nice against her skin, it really was.
She heard another noise and looked up, seeing two of the zookeepers, two broad males. She whimpered a bit, trying to move, and felt herself being grabbed in a strong grip, top half in the orange bloke's grip, bottom half in a blue bloke's grip.
"No funny business, now, missy!" the blue one joked, keeping his firm grip despite her lack of fight.
"Nah, she shouldn't fight too bad," the other one said, speaking over a dragging noise. She looked up a bit dreamily as her wrists were held.
"What's wrong with her?"
"They gave her some sedatives so she wouldn't get protective of her territory, and so she wouldn't fight when we brought her mate in. Oh, and something to help grease the wheels, so to speak."
He held down her shoulders, but she was still a bit too out of it to notice.
"That's right. He's been pacing his cage like a tiger. I think once they're reintroduced, they should get on living together well. All goes well, we should have a litter in the fall."
A litter? Rose thought, dreamily. What litter?
She turned her head as she felt the zookeeper's hand on her jaw, gently tilting it. He used a pen light, gently checking her pupils. He checked her ears, muttering a bit to the nurse who was taking notes on her levels. He checked her nose, and then pulled her mouth open. She moaned a bit as he did so, unsure why, but unable to help herself.
"Mmmn, we may have given her a bit too high of a dose."
"No sir, we needed to do so, the male is Gallifreyan. They do tend toward being a bit violently possessive with their mates, and after a separation where she's been near other males without his presence... We figured if she was more supplicant, it might ease him."
"Sound judgement. Arm strength looks fine, reflexes on the knees and feet good, if not a bit slowed. Let's let loose her mate, hmm?"
She lolled her head to the side, seeing a cage that reminded her of the one used for the velociraptors in Jurassic Park. They opened it and one of the handlers used a loop with a pullstick to get the Doctor out. He was fighting it, letting out a snarl until he caught sight of her. His lips formed her name as she blinked the slowest she ever had in her life.
"What did you do to her?!" he snarled. "Rose!"
"My goodness this one yaps a lot. If you stop fighting, we will let you go to her. No funny business, mister."
He stopped fighting, but gave them his best Oncoming Storm glare. Rose noticed, vaguely, that he was as nude as she.
Another blink that felt like a power nap.
Her eyes opened to him being carefully escorted over to her, looking ready to strike like a snake. He stopped a few feet from her, his nostrils flaring and suddenly it seemed to click in his mind what was happening. He began fighting, struggling against them. They were trying to use her like breeding stock, and he wouldn't permit it!
Had her hips always looked that grippable? He could just take her from behi-
NO.
"Get away from me! Let go of her! This is against the Shadow Proclamation! This is inhumane treatment, release me immediately!"
"Whoa, you were right about Gallifreyan males and their violence!"
The Doctor looked ready to draw blood even more so after that comment. He managed to throw one of the handlers, and despite being piled onto by two other muscular males and him being so bound, he was making them work for it.
"I don't think our presence is helpful, Wren. Let's sedate him, and redose the female."
Rose's eyes closed in a blink to the sounds of the Doctor's cries and grunts as he was fighting. Why were her eyelids so heavy? She felt like she was sleeping.
Maybe she was, because when she opened her eyes she could see he was sitting on the ground next to the hammock, stroking her eyebrows. "Wake up, precious girl. C'mon…."
"Doctor…." she murmured, sluggishly.
"There she is…. Are you all right?"
"Sleepy…"
"They appear to have given you a really strong sedative. I'm not sure why, mixed with what else they gave you."
"Gallifreyan males are violent…." she almost whispered, looking at him unfocused. "Smell other…males..." She began nodding off again, but his jerky motion drew her attention.
He got furious, she could hear the growl in his tone. "So they thought it was better if I just assault you in your sleep?! Use you like… Like I'm some sort of animal?!"
She blinked, not noticing how inappropriate it was for her to be staring where she was. "Your penis is angry…"
"What?" he yelped, eyes wide.
"It's red and angry…"
"It wouldn't be if they hadn't pumped you so full of hormones. Fuck, its like they put you in a heat cycle…" he grumbled.
"How can we make it happy?"
"It's not sentient! It doesn't have emotions of its own!" the Doctor snapped, trying hard not to think about burying himself inside of her and making her scream. Her walls caressing him… That'd wake her right up.
He suddenly yelped, grabbing at Rose's arm as she had reached down and begun petting his cock like it was a dog.
"Stop that!" He admonished, flustered beyond belief, cementing to memory the feel of her touching him.
The Doctor suddenly jerked his head up as the zookeepers came in, talking amongst themselves. He growled, standing in a defensive pose over Rose, but that had been what they'd been hoping for, as he was hit with a dart.
"Ah!" he yanked it out angrily, ready to have a go at them, but they'd left quickly. "Oh no, Rose. Oh no…"
"What is it?" she asked, trying to sit up, but stumbling a bit as her sleepiness slowly wore off.
"We need to get you awake right now. You need to run, immediately. Actually, don't run. Running will just increase my prey drive. But walk, quickly. Try and stay away from me. I'll try to fight this."
"Fight what?"
"They gave me enough hormone to trigger my biological imperative. Its the male response to a heat cycle - I'll smell you, and all I'll want to do is claim you."
"Sounds nice," she yawned.
"No it doesn't, Rose you're not in your right mind. You don't understand what I'll do to you."
"What will you do?" Rose was curious, too curious. He needed her to understand.
"Rose this isn't a game. I will hunt you down, and claim you for my own. It won't be anything soft or fun, it'll be mating to breed you. But my people don't do that for fun or opportunity either, do you understand? You'll be mine forever, neither of us can ever take it back. I will keep doing it until it takes, Rose, and nothing will be able to stop me."
"I don't think…"
"Don't you understand? I'm going to hurt you, Rose, and you'll never be able to leave me after. I'll make sure you're heavy with my child, and I might not even stop there until you have multiple."
"You'll never hurt me."
"I will, and I won't be able to stop myself from breeding you. Please Rose, go! If you have ever trusted me, ever, go and hide. I'll stay here as long as I can but… it might…. Please forgive me if I do. I'll help you…"
Rose bit her bottom lip, and tried to get out of the hammock, doing what she could to not fall directly on the grass, but failing, landing rump up on her knees. The Doctor groaned, and hissed at her to stop. She scrambled up, and went off to hide as the Doctor shut his eyes.
Before she left, she whispered, "No forgiveness needed. I love you."
That shocked him to his teeth, both making it better and so much held onto himself tightly, gritting his teeth as the hormones crashed through his system, sending him images of all of the filthy things he wanted to do to one Rose Tyler, his intended. She would be his for all eternity, he would bind her timelines to his and make certain he filled her to the brim with him mentally and physically.
Thirty minutes later, he got up, sniffing the air to find his mate.
Where was she hiding?
