CHAPTER 3: Class 1-A, tests and battles
My Hero Academia world, Aizawa and Hizashi's house [7:30]
Today starts a new scholar year for every hero academy in Japan, including the most famous of all, U.A. Everyone would expect that the news students of such an elite school would rise at the first light of dawn; and well, that was the case for most of them…
"Why is that damn kid taking so long?" Said Aizawa as he finished making breakfast.
He was already losing his patience too early in the morning, and he definitely needed it to cope with the new class full of brats he has this year; however, nobody could blame him, he had already tried to wake up Luffy four times in the last 20 minutes, but each time he put a step out of his room he immediately fell asleep again "If he is not down in five minutes I am going to throw him to a water tank"
Hizashi, who was finishing his first cup of coffee, was also getting tired of the little quarrels those two have every day, although sometimes he found them amusing "Don't be so hard on him Shota, I am sure he will be down soon. He must not be used to-…" He was saying before a loud noise coming from the stairs interrupted him.
When they went out to see what had happened, they found a still half-sleep Luffy on the floor, with his uniform all wrinkled and his legs above his head. A quite comical scene in the pro-heroes' eyes.
"HAHAHAHA, what did I tell you, Shota? See, he is already out of the bed, but I think his mind is not aware of it yet" Said a cheerful Hizashi before shaking Luffy's shoulder "Come on Luffy, it's time to wake up"
Luffy, who was still a bit dizzy from the fall, took a little while to answer "Huh? But why I have to be up so early, I want to sleep!" Whined Luffy looking with half-opened eyes at Hizashi.
"Because you must go to school" Intervened then Aizawa still a little irritated.
"Don't wanna" He said with a pout on his face and his arms crossed.
"Aaaahhhh… then there's no other option" Said Hizashi while kneeling next to Luffy "Listen kid, if you get up early each morning, you will have an extra piece of meat in the breakfast" Still no reaction "Alright, two extra pieces of meat" And that's when they saw him smile.
"SHISHISHI, OKAY!" He exclaimed getting up off the floor and going directly to the kitchen. "Let's go guys; I have to go to school and do hero stuff"
When he was already out of their sight, Aizawa sighed: "It would've been better to throw him to the nearest water tank we found; it would teach him a lesson" He said with a sinister expression.
"Hahaha, maybe next morning" Hizashi laughed before they went to sit with Luffy in the breakfast table.
My Hero Academia world, U.A. academy [8:27]
After some difficulties, the three of them finally managed to arrive to U.A. on time.
Aizawa and Luffy were now walking towards the classroom when the pro-hero remembered something. Damn it, I've forgotten my sleeping bag in my office, now I have to go back again.
"Ey kid, get going to the class, I've forgotten something in the teacher's office" He said already turning in the opposite direction "It is impossible to get lost from here, you only have continue down this corridor and you'll find the classroom, did you understand"
"Yeah, yeah. I got it" Replied Luffy seeing how Aizawa was already walking away.
As he was told, our captain continued along the path Eye-bags had indicated him and in less than two minutes he found himself in front of a huge door with the name of the class, "1-A", painted big enough to see it 500 meter away. Indeed, he would have to be Zoro to get lost ina place like this.
"Wow" He whispered to himself "Why it's so big?" Then a peculiar image suddenly appeared in his mind, making him laugh "Shishishishi, Frankie's shoulders are still too big to go through here" He said feeling a little of nostalgia. In moments like this when he wasn't with someone or his brain wasn't full of other things the memories of his crew came up every time, and each day he was separated from them they hurt even more.
Fortunately, a noise from the inside brought him back to reality. He slapped both of his cheeks with his hands to make his depressing thoughts to go away. "What am I doing? I have to have faith in them; they'll sure come up with something to bring me back" Now, without the sadness from before and with a new smile on his face, he opened the big door.
However, when he entered the classroom he encountered a strange scene. In front of the first line of desks, the green haired boy he was friends with was now very red while the girl with pink cheeks was waving his hands around him; also, to his dismay, the annoying boy with glasses was beside them.
The rest of the class appeared to be focused watching their interaction; some found it funny and others not so much, but there was someone who caught Luffy's attention. He sensed how the boy with ash blonde hair and red eyes, who was near the window, was looking specifically at Izuku with disgust, annoyance and…hatred? He didn't know but he didn't like it either.
When he took a step more to fully enter the room, the door closed behind him and the noise made all the students turned their heads towards our captain. The sudden silence that was formed only lasted a second until two excited voices called him.
"Luffy!/Luffy-san" Exclaimed Uraraka and Izuku at the same time.
"Hey, pink cheeks, little bush, it's nice to see you here"
"L-Luffy-san, don't call me that. My name is Izuku" Said the green-haired boy a little embarrassed; he didn't think the other did it with malice but still he prefers to be called by his name. However, knowing how the other boy was, he felt that it would be almost impossible to archive any time soon.
Uraraka was also in the same situation as Izuku. "And mine is Uraraka Ochaco not Pink cheeks" She said with a pout on her face.
"Shishishishi, sorry" Luffy replied "By the way, little bush, did your wounds heal?" He asked with curiosity and a little bit of concern for his new friend.
"Aaaah…" He sighed feeling a little defeated. Yep, almost impossible. "Yes, I-I'm okay now. And thank you for saving me Luffy-san, I didn't had the opportunity to tell you" Said Izuku while bowing slightly his head.
"Don't worry; it was easy to catch you" He responded before feeling a known presence approaching him. As he turned the head to his right he saw the blue haired boy looking silently at him "What do you want now?" He inquire, annoyance clearly present in his voice.
"I wanted to apologize, I made a mistake with you when we first met, and I would like to start over. My name is Tenya Iida" The other said.
After his introduction, Iida and Luffy kept looking at each other's eyes, the former a little intimidated by Luffy's gaze. It was like he was able to expose his soul. I didn't want to admit it but Monkey-san and Midoriya are superior to me. Especially him, not only he found out about the secret voting system but, even without it, he would've still ended up first by a lot of points. Incredible. He said in his mind. He thought it would take time to develop a friendship with the boy, but his next action proved him wrong.
"Shishishishishi, don't be son tense. I don't like you yet but you seem funny. I am Monkey D. Luffy, nice to meet you!" He said patting his shoulder.
However, when the straw-hat boy said his name two things were heard, a loud gasp that came out from most part of the students and an explosion.
"You are the guy who ended up first, right? It's amazing; you almost doubled the points of the second place!" Exclaimed a girl with pink skin and yellow eyes
"Wow, you must be really strong" Commented this time a blonde boy with a black streak in his hair.
"That's so mainly. We should spar sometime I want to learn how you did it" Said passionately another boy with spiky red hair and sharp teeth trying to get up from his seat. But before he could approach our captain, an explosion cut him off.
"So, you are the BASTARD THAT STOLE MY FIRST PLACE!" Yelled the boy with blond ash hair. He was looking at Luffy with a menacing look.
"K-K-K-Kachan, I don't think you should be doing this he-…" Tried to say Izuku before he was interrupted by another explosion.
"SHUT UP, SHITTY NERD!" Yelled an angrier Bakugo before turning his attention back to the pirate "You cheat didn't you? That's how you got the first place! IT'S IMPOSSIBLE THAT A LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT LIKE YOU WOULD BE STRONGER THAN ME!" He was making more potent explosions as his voice was rising.
"Huh? I didn't cheat" Replied Luffy while picking his ear "I didn't even go serious in that fight"
"WHAT?!" Said not only Bakugo but the rest of the class too.
"Yeah, I thought that was a warm-up and I was getting bored before that huge robot appeared. I wanted to punch it but little bush did it first and then the battle finished. I told them to let out another giant robot but they didn't" He said with a disappointed expression.
"Y-YOU ARE LYING, it's impossible, you cheated to get the first place!" Repeated Bakugo, refusing to believe the words coming out of his mouth.
"Again with that?!" Said Luffy this time getting a little angry "Are you dumb? If you didn't win is because you are weaker than me"
Weak. Weak. Weak. Those words were repeating over and over again in Bakugo's mind until he snapped out of his thoughts and rushed at our captain with big explosions in his hands.
Nevertheless, the door suddenly opened revealing a mad Aizawa with his Quirk already activated, fortunatley he erased Bakugo's power before he came closer to Luffy and started a fight. Again?! That brat seems to attract problems whenever he goes. Thought Aizawa.
"What is happening here?" He said with a calm voice, it was even scarier than Bakugo's yells. "You know what, don't tell me. It's the first day and I will let it pass, BUT if something like this happens again, you must know that an expulsion will be the least of your problems. Have I made myself clear?!" Aizawa threatened with such a dark expression that everyone, except for Luffy, felt cold sweat trickling down their backs.
"C-crystal clear, sir!" Said the class in unison.
"Tssk"
"Great, now I am going to present myself. My name is Aizawa Shota and I will be your homeroom teacher this year" He said coming back to his usual monotone voice.
"Teacher?!" The students exclaimed.
"Yes" He replied "And now, I know it's sudden but put this on and go to the training ground"
My Hero Academia world, U.A. academy training ground [8:43]
"A QUIRK ASSESSEMENT TEST?!"
"What about the entrance ceremony?" Said a disappointed Uraraka.
"If you are going to become heroes, you don't have time for such useless events. U.A. is not a strict school in terms of that type of tradition, this also applies to how teachers conduct their classes, we have total freedom. So that means we can do whatever we want" Said Eraserhead before picking up his phone to show them a list of tests "At school, you have been doing physical tests where you are not allowed to use your Quirks, right? Even if it doesn't make sense. The Ministry of Education is a nuisance but, fortunately for us, hero schools are out of their grip for the most part. So today you are going to do those same tests but using your Quirks."
He then turned fully to his students. "Well, who wants to be the first to start?"
"Tssk, me, of course!" Exclaimed Bakugo immediately "I have to teach some people to know their place" He said looking with arrogance at Luffy who, as always, was oblivious to the situation.
"Okay" Said Aizawa hoping not to smile when it's Luffy's turn "Now, you have to throw this ball as far as you can using your Quirk. You can do whatever you want while you .
Then, I will explode it far away. That idiot won't be competition to me. Bakugo thought as he threw the ball with all the strength he had. "DIE!" He said making a big explosion.
"You must know your limits first before you can think about improving. That is the basis for becoming a hero." He said with the same monotone voice before showing Bakugo's result: 705,2 meters.
"Wow, amazing!"/ "705,2 meters? For real?"/ "Looks like fun"/….These were the reactions of the other students. However, what they didn't know is that the last comment will be causing a little bit of trouble.
"Looks like fun, eh?" The teacher repeated "You have three years to become heroes. Will you have that attitude all the time?" Asked Aizawa as a terrifying smile appeared on his face "Then how about this? After we have done all the physical tests, whoever comes in last place will be expelled as punishment for not having the necessary potential to be here."
"Eh?!" It was their only response. Several were already showing a concerned face, however, the most notorious one belonged to a certain green haired boy.
What am I going to do? I still can't use the One for All without hurting myself. Thought Izuku very worried.
"But …"
"No complaints. Now, let's continue. Luffy it's your turn" The teacher called his name but no one responded "Luffy? Monkey D. Luffy?" He called again without response again. Only when he looked down he spotted Luffy in the ground taking a nap. I am not even surprised.
"He is taking a nap now? This boy is not afraid of anything" Said the girl with pink skin.
"He is even snoring" Commented now a short purple-haired boy.
I am having a déjà vu from this morning. He said to himself before going next to him and kicking him in the stomach, startling the other students "Wake up Luffy"
"Ouch! Why did you do that?" He exclaimed rubbing his belly.
"Because it's your turn. Now, get up and do the test before I lose what little reserve of patience I have left." He threatened him with a look that said if you don't obey I will give you only vegetables for the rest of the week. And Luffy understood it.
"Aye, aye, I'm going" He replied before asking "And what I have to do?"
"Aaaahhh?!" This idiot really got the first place?
"You have to throw this ball as far as you can, using you Quirk" Said Aizawa trying to stifle the urge to suffocate him with his scarf.
"What's a…? Aaah my rubber powers"
"Rubber powers? HA, and people still really think that this idiot beat me without cheating? Don't make me laugh?" Whispered Bakugo a little loud. Allmost all the class heard him, including the teacher.
"Then can I use any of my gears?" He asked again making the rest of his classmates confused Gears? What is he talking about?
"Yes" Aizawa replied not expecting this but ready to film it and send it to Nezu.
"Great, then…" He said as he raised his left arm and a little wave pass through it "Gear Second!"
"What is happening?"/ "Is that steam coming out of his body?"/ "Didn't he said he only have rubber powers?"/ "Did he just turn pink?!"
What the hell is he doing?! Said a Bakugo whose anger was rising by the moment.
"Gomu Gomu no…" He yelled while stretching back his arm all he could; even surprising a hidden person that was watching their training "…Jet Throw!
In the blink of an eye, the arm was back to normal and the ball was now gone. It was thrown with such power that it created a small gale before shooting off to who knows where. Only a few people were able to see the movement Luffy made with his arm due to the great speed at which he moved, what left many stunned for a couple of seconds.
"Hmm, not bad kid" Aizawa said not being able to stop smirking behind his scarf.
3-3.17 Km?! Is this a joke? It's impossible, that was only luck I will definitely beat him in the other tests. Thought a shaken Bakugo. "Tssk"
However the reaction of his classmates was totally different from his. Mouth gaping expressions, loud gasps and positive remarks were the only thing that was heard "That's amazing!"/ "He is a beast. How much strength does he really have?"/ "Now, I see why he got the first place"…
"Is that enough?" Asked Luffy after he return to his base gear.
The teacher simply nodded before facing the rest of the class "Now that the demonstration has finished let's begin with the real "fun", shall we?"
The next test was a speed race of 50 meters and the first three runners were Luffy, Iida and a girl with green hair and frog features. While two of them were warming up the other was just standing there with a bored expression.
"So we just have to run?" Asked Luffy scratching his head.
"Yes, and like in the test you did before you can also use your Quirk" Said the green haired girl.
"Thanks, frog girl"
"My name is Asui Tsuyu, but you can call me Tsuyu"
"My name is Luffy, nice to meet you" He said smiling at her.
"Likewise" She replied before their conversation was interrupted by the robot in the finish line.
"Okay everyone, Ready" Said the robotic voice "Set"
"Gear 2" Whispered Luffy making the steam and his pink skin from before to reappear.
This caught the attention of everyone specially Iida. Don't worry. He said to himself. I'll definitely beat him. This is my specialty. Unfortunately, it would only take him only four seconds to realize he was wrong.
"GO!" The race started and Iida was already in the lead, or so he thought. But when he passed the middle point he heard again a robotic voice in the distance. Impossible. "1.08 seconds" When he looked up he saw Luffy standing in front of the finish line with a big smile.
"3.04 seconds"/ "5.58 seconds" The same robot said when he and Tsuyu finished.
"Wow, Luffy-san" Said an amazed Izuku "I didn't know this form allowed you to be so fast"
"That's right! Isn't your Quirk rubber?" Said this time the red haired boy with sharp teeth.
"Yes, I only have rubber powers, and haki, I guess"
"Haki?!" The others were confused
Fuck. The pro-hero thought "What are you doing? We haven't even finished the first physical test. Stop wasting time!" Scolded Aizawa. It's not wise to reveal that so soon.
"Y-YES, SIR" They class exclaimed.
How did this happen? I should be the one to excel in this type of test. Iida thought looking at Luffy. My last assessment of him was truly accurate. He is indeed better than me. "I must get close to him, then I could ask him to train me and get stronger" He whispered to himself with determination in his eyes.
Other student was also thinking about our straw-hat boy, but not as favorable Iida. That little piece of shit thinks he is better than me. That's what was in Bakugo's mind. I will destroy him. "Tssk"
The next exam was the grip test where Luffy managed to broke his grip tester leaving the rest of the students with astonishment mixed with a little bit of fear in his faces. What kind of monster is he?!/ Rubber powers my foot, he must have multiple Quirks Everyone thought.
Apart from that there is nothing else to highlight; as we expected, the other tests passed with Luffy always in the first place, and an irritated Bakugo complaining in the background.
Now, he was sitting on the grass with his classmates as he waited for Izuku to finish his last physical exam. And, contrary to what others could think, Luffy was really paying attention to him. He had already sensed a big amount of power coming from his friend, especially when he punched that giant robot, but he also felt how that power was pretty instable, as if he couldn't control it. Apart from that, he perceived something strange as well, it was like there were more than one "presence" inside of the boy although they were too weak for him to tell how many.
When Izuku finally throw the ball, breaking his finger in the process, not only he felt Izuku's power and the strange "presences" stronger than before, but also an excited aura that appeared to be hiding behind the wall. Luffy couldn't see him or her in his current position but he knew that he or she was there since the beginning of the class. "How strange?" He said to himself.
A few minutes later and after Aizawa gave a pretty discouraging speech to Izuku, the teacher gave the results of today's physical exams.
As everyone already knew, Luffy got the first place, being followed by Yaoyorozu Momo, that appeared to be the black haired girl with a ponytail, Todoroki Shoto, who was the one who looked like a candy cane, and Katsuki Bakugo, the mad dog that yelled at Luffy before.
However, to Izuku's dismay, he was the last one despite his great result in the ball test. He was now preparing mentally to be expelled in the first day when the teacher's voice disrupted his thoughts.
"And that's all for today, but before anyone goes I have something to say" Announced Aizawa with his monotone voice. "No one's going home; I was lying. It was a rational deception to make sure you use your Quirks to the limit." He said using that sinister smile again, making the students speechless for a couple of seconds.
"WHAAAT?!"
"Of course it was a lie. It was a no-brainer if you thought about it." Said the girl called Momo.
I didn't notice it. Thought several students at the same time, a little embarrassed to admit it out loud.
"Well, that's it for today. And remember, tomorrow there will be more difficult tests so be prepared" The pro-hero said looking directly to Izuku as he walked away.
My Hero Academia world, U.A. academy [11:45]
It was the second day in U.A. for class 1-A, and, like in any other high school, they had to attend standard classes in the morning. For example, right now, they were in the middle of an English lesson with President Mic.
"Now, who can tell me which of these sentences is incorrect? Said the pro-hero.
How boring…
Do we have to do this in a hero curse?
Those were the general thoughts of the students, except for a couple of them who were just taking notes diligently, like Iida, Momo or Izuku, or were just simply asleep, that being the case of Luffy who is now snoring with his head resting on his desk.
"Everybody, cheer up! Let the grammar party begin!" Said an energetic Hizashi trying, without success, to get the interest of his new students. I will cut off Luffy's supply of meat for tonight. That would teach him to pay attention at least in my class. He thought as he glanced from time to time at the unconscious straw-hat boy.
Once the class finished, it was already time for lunch. However, our captain was still sleeping without any worries as if he believed he was on the Sunny's head instead of a classrom.
A few moments later, Izuku, along with Uraraka and Iida, approached Luffy's seat to ask him if he wanted to eat with them.
"Luffy-san, wake up" He said shaking his shoulder without response "Come on Luffy-san, you'll miss lunch if you don't get up" He insisted again obtaining this time a reaction from his part.
"Huh? Lunch? Food?!" Luffy exclaimed, abruptly getting up from his chair. "Why didn't you tell me before? I have to go see Lunchie" He said before he grabbed Izuku's arm and dragged him towards the door, but then a couple of voices made him stop and turn his head in their direction.
"Hey, Luffy. I'm Mina, do you mind if we join you in the cafeteria?" Said the pink-skinned girl with other six people behind him.
"Hi, my name is Kirishima Eijiro, we wanted to ask you about your Quirk, it was super mainly how you use it yesterday" Said now a red-haired boy.
"Yes, please…"/ "Come on, it will be fun"!/ "I want to know too" His other classmate were all equally curious about the boy in front of them.
Luffy just looked at them with a raised eyebrow before giving them a huge toothy smile. "Of course, the more the merrier" He then storm out of the classroom, his hand still on Izuku's arm, and with ten people trying to following him through the corridors.
When they finally reached the cafeteria, Izuku suddenly let out a small squeak, drawing the attention of his companions. "Is that the cook hero, Luch Rush?!" He said with excitement all over his face, but before any of them could speak they saw Luffy yelling and running towards the pro-hero the green-haired boy mentioned a few seconds ago.
"HEY, LUNCHIE. I missed you!" He yelled, gaining a lot of stares, as he approached his second favorite cook. He was loyal and, in his mind, Sanji still holds the first place.
"HAHAHAHA, but if it isn't my boy Luffy" Said Lunch Rush greeting the boy "What brings you here, kid? Did you come to give me some training? I must warn you that I perfected my technique since last time"
"Shishishishi, well I won't lose, so bring it on!" Exclaimed Luffy as he took a seat in the table nearer to the cook.
A couple of minutes later, all 1-A class, as well as the other people in the cafeteria, knew the meaning behind the "training" that Lunch Rush mentioned earlier.
As well as Aizawa, Hizashi and Nezu, now all luffy's classmates were watching, with open mouths and wide eyes, how Luffy was literally swallowing enormous plates of food at a pace that should not be considered humanly possible.
Our captain finished his 23th dish when he patted his belly totally full. "Aaahhh… That was great, thank you Lunchie, you are the best"
"No problem kid" Replied the pro-hero with his thumbs up.
The others didn't know what to make of this. They were all too stunned to talk.
"WOW, I've never saw anyone eating as much as you" Said finally Mina
"It's that a secondary effect for using your quirk?" Asked Momo this time.
Luffy thought for a second "I don't think so, even when I don't do anything I get hungry" He said still rubbing his stomach"Hey, didn't you want to know about my powers?" He asked, seeing everyone nodding "Then what are you waiting?"
"Luffy-san, are you sure you want to share that information with us" Replied Izuku a little timid "I mean we all could use it to know your weak points and defeat you"
To that Luffy could only laugh "SHISHISHISHI, that's stupid" He responded earning incredulous looks from the people he was seated with. "That you know about my Quirky thing doesn't mean you'll know what I'd do in the middle of a battle"
"…"
"…"
"Well, that is certainly true" Agreed Iida after a moment of silence
"You really don't mind if we ask?" Asked Kirishima again to be sure.
"Nope" Replied Luffy with confidence, making the others around him excited, especially Izuku who was already taking his notebook from his bag.
"Great, then how did your skin turned pink?" Asked immediately Mina, followed by Uraraka.
"And the steam that was coming out of your body? Where did that come from?"
"Ah! You are talking about my Gear 2, right?" Everyone nodded "That's easy, I only use my rubber powers to make my hearbeat and the blood of my body go faster. That way I gain extra speed and strenght"
"That's pretty intelligent" Commented Momo with a hand on her chin
"Can you stretch all your body or just your arms and legs?" Asked now Izuku without looking up from his notebook.
"Anything I think, look!" Luffy replied before he turned his head around three times on his neck "See?" Some were amazed while the others were a little creeped out.
"So cool!" Exclaimed Kaminari "And the massive strength that you have is also part of you Quirk?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, yesterday you literally broke the grip tester" He clarified
"But I didn't use my powers on that machine" He said making his classmates to look at him with wide eyes again.
"Are you serious? So that's only your natural strength?" Luffy nooded "Incredible, you are really full of surprises"
"Wow, I wished my Quirk was as useful as yours in combat" Said Uraraka feeling a little down.
"What do you mean?" Luffy asked sensing her aura a little gloomier than before.
"Well, my Quirk is zero gravity, and while is helpful in rescue missions, I feel useless in a battle because I don't have almost any offensive moves, besi-…"
"That's not true" Interrupted Luffy before she could finish.
"W-What?"
"That's not true" He repeated "If you don't have attack moves is because you don't want to"
"I-It's not like that!" Uraraka said a little offended by his comment.
"Pink cheeks, do you think I use my powers like now since I got them? I had to train seven years to give a good punch. All my gears and moves came from fighting constantly against others, like my brothers, my grandpa and people way stronger than me" His classmates could only listen attentively to him. "So don't make excuses and train harder. Old man Rayleigh told me that there are no weak powers but people not creative enough to make them powerful"
And that last sentence really sank deeply, not only in Uraraka, but in all of them; and even got the attention of some teachers that were listening to their conversation by accident.
Interesting. Thought one of them
That kid knows what he is talking about
"Maybe, you are right" Finally replied Uraraka, feeling now a little better and even hopeful. Luffy is right, I can't give up now. I need to increase the difficulty of my trainings.
"You definitely are a wise person in this type of matters, however I wanted to ask you something more technical" Intervened finally Iida as he stared into Luffy's eyes. Everyone else focused their attention on him. "How did you surpass my speed? It was not only because of your gear, am I right?"
Luffy just gave him a wide smile before answering "That's right. You are smart, I also used a technique that I stole two years ago from the pigeon guy and his friends" He said remembering his fight with the CP9 "I think they called it shave"
"A technique you say?!" Exclaimed Iida. So that means that it can be learned. Thought not only him but the other people in the table.
"Yeah, it makes you really fast and it's very useful in a battle. To use it you have to make ten steps in a second" Luffy tried to explain.
"Eh?! But that is impossible" Replied Sero not believing a single word.
"Huh? But it is. I did it yesterday, remember?" He reminded them.
Shave. I've never heard of this before but it could make me really strong. I don't think he would teach me but I don't lose nothing for asking. Said Iida in his mind before getting up from his seat to make a 90 degrees bow in front of the rubber boy. "Luffy-san, I am aware that we are not totally in good terms yet and that I misjudged your character the first time we met and I deeply apologized for that; but I'd like to ask you to teach me how to use shave. It would mean a lot to me, so please"
Luffy looked at him for a moment before answering "Sorry but I can't" He finally said. Aaahh… I knew it. Thought Iida before Luffy spoke again " 'Cause I don't know how"
This startled the other boy "What?! You don't know how to teach me?"
"That's right. I know how to use shave because I copied it using my rubber powers. You don't have a rubber body so I can't teach you" Concluded Luffy, surprising everyone with his logic.
Maybe, he isn't as stupid as we thought
"Well, that makes sense. But that means that I can also try to copy it from you if I work hard, right?" Said Iida with a little of hope in his eyes. "Can you train with me so I can see it again?"
"Sure. Why not?" Replied our captain smiling. "I'll never say no to a fight"
"Thank you very much!" Exclaimed Iida bowing his head again.
Wow, Luffy-san is amazing. Would he agree to train with me as well? Izuku considered for a moment, not knowing that those same thoughts were in the minds of his classmates as well, especially in two of them.
After that, it wasn't much longer before they had to return to the classroom.
My Hero Academia world, U.A. academy [15:30]
Everyone was now waiting for today's hero training lesson when, all of a sudden, the door opened showing the muscular figure of Japan's number one hero.
"I AM HERE! Walking through the door like a normal person"
"It's All-Might!"
"Incredible, he really is one of our teachers!"
"That costume is from the Silver Era, right?"
All the students, even the most unsuspected, were so excited that nothing but words of pure admiration came out of their mouths. Well, all of them except for our captain.
Luffy was simply staring at him trying to recall why his presence is so familiar to him, when it hit him. "You were the person behind the wall" He yelled pointing at the pro-hero.
"W-What are you talking about, young man?" Questioned All-Might nervously "This is my first class with you" Damn it, he saw me?
"That's not true, you were watching us doing that tests" Replied Luffy fully convinced "I am sure, I sensed the same aura yesterday" He continued saying catching the attention of all the presents.
He sensed my aura? But how, does he have more than one Quirk? "Well, yes. I saw your training yesterday; I was simply taking a walk in the same area by coincidence" He replied trying to create a convincing excuse "And… and I didn't want to be a distraction that's why I hid my presence. Yes, that's right"
"Wow, I can't believe it, All-Might saw us training"
"If I had known he was there I would've put a lot more effort"
"How embarrassing!"
Pretty much, those were the general comments from the students of class 1-A who were oblivious to the fact that the real reason All Might was there was only to see how a certain green-haired boy was doing in his first day.
"Ahem…" All-Might cleared his throat "As I was about to say, I am here to give you the basic hero training, where you will learn the foundations to become one in the future." Said the pro-hero with his typical smile "So today we are going to start with a COMBAT TRAINING! And for that, you'll need to use the costumes based on the registration of your Quirks and the petitions that you sent before U.A. started"
"WOW!" Exclaimed the whole class as they saw their suitcases coming out of the walls.
"After you get changed, everyone gather at Ground Beta"
"YES!"
My Hero Academia world, U.A. academy, Ground Beta [16:00]
After they got into their costumes, all of the students of class 1-A went to the training ground. However, one was a little late.
"You look great guys" Said All-Might before noticing the absence of someone. "But where is Young Luffy"
"…."
"I am here!" His voice was heard as he came running towards his classmates. When he finally arrived everyone noticed his strange costume. Our captain didn't want to complicate himself so he simply chose what he was wearing when he arrived to this world; despite of Aizawa and Hizashi's negative.
"Luffy, your costume looks cool" Said Kirishima "But will you be confortable during a battle wearing that? Especially the sandals"
"Shishishishi, of course. I used to wear this all the time before I got here" He replied putting on his signature straw-hat; but then everyone let out a loud gasp. Luffy looked at them confused only to see his classmates and teacher staring at his chest, more specifically at his scar.
"L-Luffy-san, how…" Izuku tried to speak
"…Young Luffy, how did you get that scar?" Asked finally All-Might
"Oh! I got this after my brother died but I don't remember exactly how" He said trying to sound like it was nothing but failing at the end.
"I am sorry, dude" Said Kaminari not knowing what else to do in a situation like this.
We shouldn't have asked him that. Thought Izuku and the class in general
Clearly, that wasn't the answer they were expecting, so they couldn't help but look at him with a little bit of pity; and the pirate didn't like it.
"HEY! Don't look at me like that I'm already over it, you know." Luffy said before smiling at his classmates to make the tension to disappear "And you, Mr. Steroids, let's start with the battle"
"HA. Okay, okay" Replied All-Might more relaxed after hearing some laughs caused by the nickname that the kid gave him. I'm only going to let it pass this time. "Now let me explain today's class before we proceed with the combats…"
Basically, the battles will be in pairs. One pair will be villains who have a fake "nuclear weapon" in one of the floors of a building and the other pair will be heroes that will try to arrest the villains or deactivate the weapon in a limited time. If the heroes don't manage to get their hands in the weapon or are captured by the villains they lose.
After the explanation, they decided the teams by lottery, and Luffy ended up being in group E with Mina.
"Luffy, we are on the same team" She said happily.
"Hey, pinky"
"My name is Mina; though pinky sounds kind of cute I like it."
The minutes passed and the first combat, Team A vs Team D, was almost at the end. In this time, Luffy only sat in the back of the room sleeping; to him, who has fought in the most unimaginable and dangerous places and against people who can wipe out all his classmates in a single blow, this battle was pretty boring. He wasn't paying attention until Izuku activated his "mystery power"; honestly, he was still curious about it, and now even more, when he felt that same power, but "weaker" and more stable, in Mr. Steroids.
His thoughts were then disrupted when he heard All-Might's voice"…the hero team WINS!" He announced through the microphone as they were shown the camera footage of Izuku and Uraraka in a worst physical state that the team who lost. At that moment Luffy felt the aura of the pink girl approaching him.
"That was pretty intense, don't you think?" She commented sitting next to him.
"Intense? The days I trained with grandpa were more difficult than that" Luffy said pointing to the monitor.
"Right, I forgot I was talking to a monster in hand-to-hand combat" Mina said, half-joking, as she also recalled in her mind the large number of points Luffy received in the practical exam "Well, I think I'll speak only for myself but I hope I don't end up in the infirmary like Midoriya"
"Shishishi. Don't worry I will be there. I won't let you get hurt" He assured her smiling, making her feel more optimistic.
"Alright, the next teams that will fight each other will be…" All-Might said as he introduced his hand in the boxes with each pair's letter. "…team E as the heroes, and team B as the villains"
After that announcement Mina almost lost all the color of her face. "Aaahh. Why it has to be him?" She sighed defeated.
"Huh? What happened?" Luffy asked not understanding the situation.
"Now, it's our turn to fight…" Mina said before being interrupted by an excited Luffy.
"It's our turn? YEY! It'll be fun!"
"Fun? Fun for you" She replied slightly annoyed "The problem is that our opponent is that guy over there" Mina said pointing to a boy with half of his hair white and the other half red "He entered U.A. with a recommendation and is the son of the number two hero Endeavour, he must be very tough to beat"
Luffy only needed to look at the boy a few seconds to know if it would be as tough as pinky told him. "Nah, the candy cane is weaker than me. We'll be fine." He finally said.
I hope you are right. She thought to herself.
A couple of minutes later, both teams were already in their positions. The hero team at the entrance of the building and the villains in one of the floors with the "nuclear weapon".
"So… what we have to do?" Asked Luffy two minutes before the battle started.
"Are you serious?! You waited until now to ask that question?!" He only nodded "Aaaah!…. Listen, because I'll only say it once. We must enter the building, defeat the other team and take the weapon that they had in one of the floors. We can also use our Quirks in the battle. Did you understand?" Explained Mina as simple as possible
"Yeah, so we have to kick their asses" Mina only affirmed with her head "That's easy. But what is your power?"
"I can generate acid from my body. Look" She replied before making a demonstration.
"WOW, tha's so cool!" Luffy said with starts in his eyes "It looks like the power of that Magenta guy"
"Who?" Questioned Mina
"The boss of a subterranean prison I had to fight two years ago. I almost died there, he was too strong" He simply said, his adventure in Impel Down was really crazy now he thought about it.
"Ah…" She didn't know if she had to take it as a joke or as an exaggerated truth. But before she could say anything else they heard All-Might's voice.
"Okay students, the battle starts…NOW!"
After that, Mina and Luffy entered with decision in the building. They were still in the first corridor when Luffy spoke again.
"The weapon is with the other two guys, right?" Asked Luffy
"Yes, I suppose"
"Then, they are in the third floor." He said casually
"And how do you know that?" She inquired him with a skeptical look.
"Because I sensed it with my haki" He replied like it was obvious.
"Haki? What is…?" But before she continued speaking she saw how Luffy suddenly stop on his tracks and looked in front of him with a serious face "What's the matter? Why did you stopped?"
"Pinky, when I tell you, jump and spill your acid thing on the floor, got it?" Mina knew that he is stronger than her and that, in this moment, she had to trust him if they want to win, so she only nodded as he waited for Luffy's signal "Wait, wait… Now!"
And thanks to Luffy's…reflexes? If she can call it that, they managed to jump a second before the ice wave reached them. For her part, Mina, after she jumped, did what he told her and poured a good amount of acid in the ground to make them land without slipping on the ice.
"Amazing! How did you do it?" Asked Mina "How did you know the ice was coming?"
"With haki" He replied smiling
"And what's that?" She said with curiosity in her eyes.
"It's a mystery ability, shishishi" It was the only thing he said before they had to continue with their mission.
Meanwhile, in the monitors' room
"Wow, how did they dodged that?!" Exclaimed an impressed Kirishima
"It was very impressive. Luffy-san has amazing reflexes" Commented this time Kaminari
"I don't think it was that" Said Momo catching the attention of his classmates "It seemed more like he sensed the ice coming"
He sensed the ice coming, eh? Now that I think about it, before he also told me he "sensed" my aura yesterday in Ground Beta. Thought All-Might as he saw both teams on the screen. Does he have another Quirk? Or is it just that his senses are extraordinary well trained? He didn't have an answer yet, but it will be interesting to find out
Now, going back to the battle, we can spot the "candy cane" boy, as Luffy called him, leaving the room where his partner and the weapon still were.
"Todoroki, where are you going?" Shoji asked him before he reached the door.
"I am going to finish them off. They must be trapped in the ice so it would be easy to defeat them if I move fast. You just have to wait here in case something went wrong" He said with a little bit of arrogance in his voice as he headed again towards the exit.
He rapidly arrived to the second floor and, before going further, he created an ice wall to block their way to the weapon's room in case one of them could escape. However, when he turned to take the corridor that will lead him to the first floor, from the corner of his eye he saw pink flash coming from his left. As he turned to that direction he found Mina trying to attack him with her acid.
Damn it. How did she free herself so fast? Todoroki thought.
"Take this!" She said as he threw him three acid balls.
Todoroki took two steps back dodging them with ease, but before he could freeze her with his ice he had to create a shield to stop a punch coming from his back.
"Huh? You have good reflexes" Said Luffy as he prepared his fist to attack again "But I don't think that ice is stronger than me. GOMU GOMU no… PISTOL!"
Despite of his quick response, the fact that his opponent was also really fast and too close to his position made it almost impossible for him to create a shield strong enough to contain Luffy's punch. The result of this exchange was Luffy's fist breaking through the ice wall and giving Todoroki a blow in the stomach that sent him to the end of the left corridor, almost knocking him out.
"Come on Luffy, I finished!" Said Mina who, during the fight, was trying to melt the ice that was obstructing their path.
Coming back to Shoji, he was getting nervous by the moment. Time was passing and there was no announce from All-Might saying that they have won, so he only could assume that things went wrong.
This was confirmed when he heard the sound of several footsteps coming towards him. He adopted a defensive position as he heard them closer; and only five seconds later, he saw how Mina entered through the door skating with her acid.
"Hellooo! I am here" She exclaimed loudly as she tried to approach Shoji from his left.
"I won't let you-" However, focusing his total attention on her, was a serious mistake. Thanks to that he didn't see Luffy's attack.
"Gomu Gomu no…BAZOOKA!" The straw-hat boy yelled as Shoji received his punch directly in his chest, leaving him at the edge of unconsciousness.
"YES! We won!" Mina celebrated as she hugged the villain's weapon.
"Great job, pinky" Said his partner giving her a high-five.
Back into the monitor's room, we find All-Might and the rest of the class 1-A watching the screen with stunned expressions.
"The hero team… WIN!" Finally said the pro-hero after a few moments of silence.
"I can't believe Luffy defeated so easily the guy that got a recommendation" Said Tsuyu
"He is so mainly. I knew he couldn't lose, he is too strong!" Exclaimed Kirishima.
"We don't have to forget Mina, she did great too" Intervened Momo
"That's true. They completed the mission fast and clean, a good example of teamwork" Agreed Tokoyami
I can't believe that rubber brain won and I didn't Thought Bakugo slightly impressed, even though he didn't want to admit it.
Nezu was right. He has a lot of potencial Said All-Might in his mind
Once Mina and Luffy received their corresponding praises and the other team battles were finished, All-Might announced that today's training hero class was officially over. However, before the students started to go to their next class, Luffy said something that, once more, shocked the pro-hero and the entire class.
"That's not fair. I was waiting to fight with Mr. Steroids"
"…"
"WHAAAAT?!"/ "HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?!"/ "YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS, RIGHT"/…
"L-Luffy, d-do you understand what you just said?" Said Kaminari not believing his ears.
"Yeah, I said I wanted to fight him" He said again pointing at All-Might who remained speechless due to the boy's bold statement.
"Luffy-san, he is the strongest hero in Japan! You can't challenge him just like that; he will beat you in less than a minute!" Yelled an anxious Iida.
"Huh? But I just did it, and how do you know he'll beat me? We haven't fought yet" Replied Luffy a little angry that they are underestimating him. He didn't understand why is such a big deal to fight with that guy; yes, he is the number one hero, but he was sure he had faced people as or more powerful than him in his world. Even his crew didn't make such a fuss when he challenged Big Mom in Fish-men Island. However, what Luffy did not take into account is that other people, except for Aizawa, Hizashi and Nezu, don't know any of his adventures.
"Luffy, we know you are strong but your attacks won't work on All-Might" Said this time Mina trying to change the rubber boy's mind.
"What are you saying? You haven't seen most of my moves" Luffy responded confused. He has only used Gear 2 and observation haki.
Silence was formed once again and his classmates no longer knew what expression to put on or what to say. We haven't seen most of his moves? Are you kidding me?
At that moment, All-Might recovered his ability to speak and addressed Luffy "Ahem…Young Luffy, I-I'm afraid that today will be impossible. You… you have classes to attend now and I am very busy" He said trying to come up with a believable lie.
"Then, can we fight other day?" Replied Luffy as stubborn as ever.
"Y-yes, of course" The pro-hero agreed not knowing what else to do.
"Great! See you later Mr. Steroids" He said before going out from the training ground.
The other students followed him little after, still trying to make sense about what just happened.
You were right again Nezu. Young Luffy is an interesting person. Thought All-Might as he headed to the teacher's office. And extremely bold.
