September 19th 2007, Saiph's 14th birthday. It had now officially been 19 days since Saiph shifted for the very first time.

It was a normal Thursday morning when Saiph woke up to a completely dark room. That was weird … It was morning. Wasn't it? A downside of being in the dungeons was the lack of natural light. The only widows there were looked into the murky waters of the black lake.

She felt around for her phone for a bit then remembered she didn't have it. When she came to this world many things were absent from what she fell asleep with, Her phone included. Not that she'd even be able to use it at Hogwarts due to the strong magical field around the castle. In places that had a large concentration of magical creatures, electronics tended not to work. Atleast, that's what Saiph had read in Hogwarts a History. Hermione was actually right about that book, it was very helpful.

Sighing she grabbed her wand off the bedside table "Lumos Maxima," she whispered. If it was still night and her body clock was just off, then she didn't want to wake her roommates. Saiph looked around the room for a while but found no one. No one was in the room, not even her roommates.

Saiph cautiously swung her legs over the bed and onto the carpeted floor. She planned to go search for her roommates when suddenly a hand shot from the dark under bed and grabbed Saiph's unexpecting foot. "Ah – fuck!," she screamed and kicked the hand. There was a sound of laughter before the room filled with light.

Saiph looked up with a hand over her heart and scanned the room for the source of the laughter. "Happy birthday!" Her friends shouted as they popped up from all sorts of hiding spots. Saiph looked around at her friends and noticed two people missing. Her and Draco still hadn't talked, she had been meaning to of course, but things kept on getting in the way.

Just last night she had seen him in the common room and went to approach him. Unfortunately, that was interrupted by a 1st year asking her to help with his homework.

Saiph was relatively smart (people always called her modest when she said that) it was true but she only used her brain when she wanted to. Meaning she got good grades but she also couldn't tell you the square root of pie or name a single plant not featured in a Herbology lesson. Not that pie would be useful to know in the wizarding world anyway. It was funny, how muggle teachers always told students how they couldn't survive in the real world without maths, yet there was an entire world without it and they were thriving. Sure, they had arithmancy, but it wasn't the same.

Back to what she was saying – well, thinking (Saiph always got distracted by the stupidest things) Draco obviously didn't want her to wish her a happy birthday and she didn't blame him honestly. If someone had broken her arm over a meagre insult she probably wouldn't want to celebrate their birth either, and lets face it, she would actually probably kill them.

Even so, she felt a pang of sadness in her heart when she thought about his absence. They two friends had been in each other's company since they started Hogwarts. Whether they hated each other or not, they still showed up and it hurt to think that had ended because of a stupid in the moment action. Saiph mentally kicked herself, it was true, you never knew how much you needed someone until they were gone.

Where was Pansy though? As far as she knew, Saiph hadn't done anything to offend the Vietnamese girl recently. Sure, she had been upset about what she did to Draco but she also understood it like Daphne and Theo when Saiph had explained herself. Just then she heard a hiss of pain from under the bed and vaguely remembered kicking something. Slowly a short haired girl crawled out from under the bed, holding her hand and hissing in pain. Pansy.

"Where did you learn to kick like that?" She asked groaning. Saiph simply smiled and held out her hand to help the girl up, subconsciously avoiding the question.

The rest of the day was spent avoiding classes and hanging out around the school grounds and lake. Saiph even suggested that they explore the forbidden forest, which was quickly shot down by the rest of the group.

Despite their 'rule breaking' the dementors kept away from the group, watching them laugh and play from a distance. Saiph found this strange, it was like the dementors were keeping a heedful eye on the girl, as if she were some sort of threat. As peculiar as the occurrence was though, Saiph didn't let it distract her from the fun she was having.

Saiph loved her birthday, a day all to celebrate the fact that you were born, who wouldn't love it but deep down she felt something was missing, something that she'd forgotten but knew was important. She racked her brain and scrunched up her nose, but she just couldn't remember what it was. As she discovered more and more about this world, more and more questions seemed to appear.

Before Saiph started Hogwarts her father would take her somewhere special every year for her birthday present. The young witch always had everything she could ever want. One of the hardest things one could do was to give a gift to someone who already had everything they would ever need, so the small family resolved that issue by going on trips around the world instead. Saiph always like the idea of an adventure better then being spoiled with toys anyway, she was just lucky enough that her family had the money to do it.

Now that her birthday was after the school term had already started though, these trips were now postponed to the Christmas Holidays instead. Oh how she missed her father, she knew she would she him soon but he hadn't written to her recently and that worried her.

Dinner that night was the best she had had in a while. Maybe it was the fact that everything tasted better on your birthday or maybe it was because she was surrounded by friends that truly loved and accepted her but in that moment everything was perfect.

That night Saiph went to bed smiling, then, she had an idea. Shifting was real, she knew that by now but there was one thing she now felt the need to do. Edit her script. Of course she wouldn't change anything that was already established such as who her friends were and her house. But she also didn't want to risk dying when things were just getting good. Saiph had heard from her online friends that once you died in a desired reality, that was it, you couldn't go back. You would either have to go to a new version of that reality or go somewhere else, either way it wouldn't be the same.

Saiph also missed her parents from her OR (Original reality) she didn't know how long she had been away from them (another disadvantage of not having a script) but for her it had been nearly a month. The fact that she was also celebrating her birthday without them only made her awareness of their truancy grow stronger.

As she lazily closed her eyes and slowed her breath, she thought about home, about her purple walled room in her OR. Her body began to get light and tingly as she shifted back and when she opened her eyes, she was back in her room.
