Most kids Steven's age struggle with finding out where they belong. Start with nine kids; add them to one strange town; mix in six gemstones; add a dash of two alien devices and one personified computer, and season with friendship. Bake over one Summer vacation, and allow to cool over mystery. Well now, doesn't that sound like a recipe for adventure?
