Duncan and Bridgette have been best friends since middle school. The two hardly spent a day apart from each other. They even decided to go to college together. Though he always had on a tough exterior, Bridgette always managed to bring out Duncan's soft side. The two were such great friends that people would always mistake them for siblings, sometimes even lovers. It's Valentines Day and Duncan was relaxing in his dorm room when he heard a knock at the door. When he got up and opened, he found his best friend standing their with hot tears running down her eyes.
"Bridgette? What's wrong?" He worriedly asked pulled Bridgette into his dorm and closing the door.
Bridgette tried to say something, but she couldn't and just hugged Duncan bawling her eyes out. Duncan hugged her back and let her cry on his shirt. It broke his heart to see his best friend like this, though he'd rather kill than admit it. Bridgette wept and wept onto Duncan's shirt without any signs of stopping soon. Duncan just rubbed her back as a way to sooth her. He kissed her on the forehead like he'd normally do, this seemed to have calmed her down a bit.
"Can I have another?" She asked softly.
"Sure." Duncan said giving her another kiss on her forehead. She cooed softly.
"Thanks." She said.
"Sure thing." Duncan led her to the couch on the other side of his dorm as they both sat down. Duncan still had an arm around Bridgette. "So what's wrong?" He finally asked.
"It's Geoff." Bridgette said. Geoff was Bridgette's girlfriend. Duncan didn't know him too well, but knew he made Bridgette happy.
"What about him?"
"He... he.." Bridgette started tearing up again. Duncan rubbed her arm to calm her down.
"I was walking to his dorm, to give him something for Valentines. When I got there I saw the door was cracked open. When I went in, I saw him... kissing Heather." Bridgette said, her voice cracking at the end. Heather was one of the popular girls who thought she was above everyone else. "I yelled at him that we were over and ran out of his dorm. I didn't want to be alone, so I came here." Bridgette finished now leaning on Duncan's shoulder. Duncan want to march over to Geoff's dorm and turn him into a human pretzel, but right now his best friend needs him.
"I'm real sorry you had to go through that Bridge. Next time I see that cowboy I'll be sure not to not hurt him too much." Bridgette giggled at this. She loved how protective Duncan was of her, like a big brother. He always made her feel safe when scared, or like right now, happy when sad. She wiped the tears away and looked at her friend.
"Thank you Duncan. I'm glad to have you as my best friend." She said to him.
"No problem Bridge. Oh by the way, I have something for you." Duncan got up and went to his nightstand and pulled something out of the drawer. He then went and sat back down next to Bridgette and gave her a letter. She opened it and started reading what was on it.
"Dear Bridgette,
This may be the cheesiest thing you'll get from me, but for you it's worth it. From the day we met, you instantly felt like family to me. You're always outgoing and do what you can to help others. I admire how good of an influence you have on me. I know I'm not the nicest person alive, but you always seem to rub off on me. I mean I can't remember the last time I got into trouble with a principal. You're nice, pretty, smart, fun, and just a wonderful person to be around. I want you to know that I'll always be with you till the end of time. You've always been like a sister to me and nothing will ever change that. I know the phrase I love you doesn't have to mean something in a romantic way, it can define the closeness and love and support between two friends, and that's how my love is for you. I love you Bridgette. Happy Valentine's day.
From Duncan.
By the time Bridgette was done reading the letter, she had more tears in her eyes. But they weren't tears of sadness, they were tears of joy. She looked at Duncan, only he was now holding a locket with a wave shape at the end of it.
"I got this for you." He said putting it around her neck. She looked inside the locket and saw a picture of her and Duncan. Bridgette couldn't take it anymore, she flung at Duncan in a tight hug almost knocking them off the couch. She had her arms around his neck and head on his shoulder. When she spoke, she was already shredding happy tears.
"Thank you Duncan. This is the best thing I've ever gotten. I love you so much too. You've always been like a brother to me. I don't know what I'd do without you with me." Bridgette said as she and Duncan held each other tighter.
"Of course. Anything for my best friend. Happy Valentine's day Bridgette.
"Happy Valentine's day Duncan."
Just something short and sweet for Valentines.
