"But what if-"
"Nuh-uh. We've already done this at least ten times, Jupiter. You're not supposed to be worrying today. Well, not supposed to worrying about anything other than catching fish."
"But Wilfred-"
"Look! You've got something on your line!"
Jupiter yelped, looking down at his line, then scowling when he realized that Wilfred had tricked him.
"That wasn't a very nice thing to do to your future king." He grumbled, flopping back onto the dock and shooting Wilfred a dirty look.
"You're still a prince today." Wilfred responded lightly. "And one that needs to take a break, for once."
Jupiter opened his mouth to protest for a third time, but Wilfred cut him off before he could even get a word out.
"Everything will go fine, Jupiter. Your mother planned it to a T, and there's no use worrying over something that is already set in stone. Just sit quiet, you're scaring the fish."
Jupiter, however, was incapable of sitting quietly.
"But does she have to insist that even my wedding day be marred by politics?"
"Do you mean tradition?" Wilfred replied, snagging his line out of the water to replace the bait.
"Whatever she likes to call it, it's boring. And political." Jupiter scowled.
"Hey, if she had it her way you'd be stuck in some sort of arranged marriage. Just be grateful you got to pick." Wilfred replied, spearing a worm on his hook.
"The Hollowers are going to kill me. I just know it."
Wilfred snorted at his friend's melodrama. "Yeah, okay. Remind me again why Glen agreed to marry you?"
Jupiter shot him an offended look. "I'm not joking."
"You'll be fine." Wilfred grunted, heaving his line back out into the lake. "And you need to stop worrying. You're stealing my job."
"How can I not? After the last year…."
"After the last year, we all deserve a break from the headache that is Bleston. So don't think about it. Think about something happy, like the fact that you're getting married tomorrow, political constraints or no."
Jupiter sighed.
"If you fall asleep, I'll throw you in the lake." Wilfred told him dryly, watching the prince's eyes slid closed.
His eyes popped back open. "You wouldn't!"
Wilfred gives him a look that said; Oh yes, I would, and don't test me.
Jupiter, evidently, made the wise choice not to.
