Author's Note: Happy Valentines!, have some cute Uikuro to celebrate
Kuroko could be so ridiculous, so sappy, so corny. Uiharu thought grinning wildly despite her thoughts as she looked upon her gifts.
It began with a simple phone message and a gift in the mail. Prepare for the best Valentines day of your life my sweet. She opened the gift to reveal a long silk dress of pure white. This was the same one she'd been eyeing every time they went on patrol lately. It was just way out of her budget. She never even outright said she wanted.
"Oh Kuroko." She said softly as she held the soft garment to her chest.
"Woah must've been expensive!" Mikoto exclaimed as she regarded Uiharu appearance.
Uiharu nodded with a blush, "J-just over um a million yen, it seems a little much to spend on me."
Saten grinned, eyes looking worn and tired. The three were sitting at their usual hangout family diner. Waiting for Kuroko to show up, and talking about their respective valentines. "Our pal is worth her weight in gold don't you think Misaka?"
"Huh oh yeah sure. Of course." Giving her junior a headpat on her flower adorned head. "Probably shouldn't encourage her though." She mumbled under her breath.
"Where is she anyway?" Uiharu asked as she gazed out of the window. Avoiding their looks out of embarrassment.
Mikoto shrugged, "I saw her this morning, she seemed pretty nervous about something. Kind of spastic really." And the less said about that penguin suit the better.
Uiharu narrowed her eyes, Strange she was usually their every morning to escort her to work. But then Konori called in to let her know she wasn't needed today, so where was she?
Saten leaned forwards her. "So where is she?"
Mikoto grunted in displeasure. "She told me to tell Uiharu, ah what was it again? I wrote that nonsense down." Taking a piece of paper out of her pocket she squinted reading it aloud with a slight blush. "If you wish to discover our future together trace your steps to where our past began my beloved" She put the paper down with her cheeks aflame. "Going way overboard as usual." She finished with a hmmph.
Uiharu laughed nervously. "Well its a little much but I can appreciate the thought. I think I know what she's talking about."
It was obvious enough to figure it out, the old Judgement training center was where they first met, though not where they really formed an attachment. There in her old locker she found a box of chocolates. Which tasty and sweet as they might be seemed a little unnecessary to come all this way for. Until she noticed a small card hidden in one of the tin foil wrapping with an arrow pointing up.
Or was it down? Uiharu spent a few minutes pondering that. But then there wasn't much of interest in the basement so it seemed like a decent choice.
Over the wide green expanse she couldn't see much. Just some trainees and off duty Judgement members. The February wind still had a chill to it, though not as cold as that fateful night almost a year ago. The bitter rain, the bitterness inside her all cleared away by that simple kiss.
Since then relationship had gone from strength to strength, aside from occasional point of contentions. Kuroko's eagerness and over dramatic side while quite cute could get a little exhausting at times.
It was nearly time for their anniversary. What do I get her exactly? That's the downside of dating a rich ojou-sama, she can already buy whatever she wants. Something homemade perhaps. So caught up in her thoughts the young girl failed to notice the strange movements the figures on the field were making.
"Huh what are they doing? Looks like some kind of letters. I lv u Uihar-oh…" Ah well that could only be the work of one person unless her little sister's ability had gone up 4 levels.
She blushed bright red and gave a shy awkward wave to what felt like and probably was 20 or so eyes locked upon her. She really is too much.
They began shifting again into a set of numbers, Uiharu cocking her head at the sight. "1452626 huh what would that mean?" A date? No too many numbers. Maybe coordinates? She used those many times in her career with Judgement. She'd have to go get her laptop to check.
Uiharu had tracked her next clue down to Joseph's family restaurant, the coordinates leading her right to her old friends home away from their dorms. She was quite surprised to see Mikoto and Saten there waving her over.
Saten whistled in approval "Nice dress, Kuroko should be worried, whoever gave you it clearly has their eye on you" She said in a teasing manner as Uiharu sat with them.
Uiharu rolled her eyes as Mikoto sighed. "Saten you know Kuroko gave it to me."
Saten stroked her chin in faux thought, in Uiharu's opinion anyway. "I would think she'd be more interested in you wearing less clothes." Falling into a shaking giggle fit as the other two rolled their eyes.
Mikoto finally spoke up her eyes scanning Uiharu's wavy dress, "You don't think its a bit much?"
The smaller girl shook her head. "No why would I think that? Though maybe the other stuff was a little embarrassing."
Mikoto leaned forward expectantly. With a look that put Uiharu on edge. "Oh do tell."
Uiharu sighed and told the two everything, knowing they'd find out sooner or later especially since a certain someone wasn't attempting to be even a little subtle.
Saten whistled obviously impressed. "Whew wonder how many reversals that took."
Uiharu sighed with dismay as she thought of that. She hoped Kuroko's antics hadn't interrupted their training too much.
Their level 5 senior smirked. "Probably a lot of time in any case, all the best for Kuroko's precious rose." Snickering at her blushing reaction.
Uiharu's shy reddening gaze withdrew to the ground. "I-I'm just… I mean I'm not so sure I'm worth spending all this time on." Her old self esteem issues creeping to the fore.
Saten and Misaka exchanged a worried glance and quickly hugged her. "Of course your worth spending time on." Misaka said softly. "Yeah your the bestest kindest friend ever, and I bet your an even more amazing girlfriend." While stroking her flower adorned hair.
"T-thank you guys I-" The beep of her phone distracted her, opening it up to reveal a string of numbers. Saten peered over the phone too, "Huh maybe you got to call it."
Uiharu shook her head. "No its too long for an Academy number. Hmm maybe coordinates?" Opening up a map app trying to find a matching location.
A soft wistful expression came across her face. "Ah of course I should have known."
While the training centre may have been where they first met, the bank on district 7's main road was where their bond was truly formed. She'd never thought that careless, stupid but very brave little pigtailed girl would become her true love.
Uiharu stood outside, reminiscing over their shared past. "So you finally made it." A cool collected voice said, though Uiharu could feel a undertone of shakiness to it. She turned to see her beloved Kuroko.
And in quite a dashing outfit no less. A fashionable and expensive tuxedo, dress shoes, and her red mane done up in a bushy ponytail. So handsome, Uiharu swooned over the sight.
Said handsome young lady seemed to have trouble keeping still, practically vibrating with excitement. As a band appeared and began playing a smooth jazz tune, Kuroko held out her hand, "I hope today's been satisfactory beloved."
Uiharu blushing bright red at being addressed at such a way all in public, shyly nodded, and gripped her hand firmly, "M-more than I could have ever dreamed."
Kuroko winked. "It gets better." The band now playing a more famous tune. Kuroko got down on one knee and produced a case containing a dazzling and likely very expensive ring. "Uiharu Kazari will you marry me?" The girl known as Kuroko Shirai barely out of middle school asked without a hint of pretense.
Her would be blushing bride froze, stunned silent by the proposal. She knew Kuroko had a flair for being over-dramatic but this was going far over the line.
Kuroko's loving smile weakened partly by Uiharu's silence, and partly by the growing pile of onlookers drawn in by the odd display. "Did you hear me? Do I repeat myself?" expecting Uiharu to squeal yes and sweep her into a passionate kiss by now.
Uiharu's eyes wandered over the growing passerby's not sure how to handle this, feeling some resentment towards the redhead kneeling in front of her for putting her in this delicate situation.
"Kuroko we're only 14!" Leaning in and harshly whispering the truth to her. "Its literally not allowed for us to get married, you… you moron!"
Promptly regretting her harshness as Kuroko's face flashed a look of pain before settling on embarrassment. Upturned eyes looking up at her sheepishly. "A-ah right sorry Kuroko was being stupid again." The humiliation of all this happening in public making her eyes tear up. "I'll just go, I should have known you were too good for me." Turning round to leave before Uiharu grabbed her arm, " Wait! You didn't let me finish."
"Its fine I get it. You don't need to rub it in" She said in a heart shattering pitiable tone as she tried to wipe her eyes.
"Kuroko please! Listen to me, we can't get married right now… but maybe um you can keep that ring safe until we're old enough, a-and then I'd happily marry you." Uiharu stuttered out blushing a bright tomato like red. Not helped by the resultant Awwws by their impromptu audience.
Kuroko hugged her tightly. "I'll protect you with my life, Happy Valentines future Mrs Shirai."
"H-happy Valentines Kuroko… and who said I'd be taking your name!"
