Addax had always wanted to have a normal dragon's life. And up until the brightest night he had had just that, but then everything changed. The day the Seawings captured him was like any other. He was patrolling the eastern border of his kingdom thinking about his family. His wife Roadrunner and three kids Gecko, Armadillo, and Hwamei. They also had another dragonet on the way and we're planning to name her Shamrock.

A sharp crack jerked him out of his daze and he made it 10 paces towards the thicket of bushes when he realized it had been him who had made the sound.

"Oh now we're afraid of ourselves, huh," said his Sergeant Rockhopper chuckling.

"It's not funny! If that had been a Seawing or an Icewing we would all be dead by now!" Addax snapped back.

"Hey, stop bickering, some of us are trying to concentrate,"said Sandstone, one his fellow soldiers and friend, "And I'm sorry I ruined your 'don't talk back to a superior officer' Rockhopper."

"That's exactly what I was thinking. Can you read minds or something?" asked Rockhopper, rolling his eyes.

He knew Rockhopper was just joking around but this was sort of serious too. Everyone in their barracks knew something up with Sandstone. And about 90% of them thought he was part Nightwing, although he had denied this on many occasions. He had weird scales beneath his eyes and kept saying exactly what one of them was thinking. Sandstone also kept having weird nightmares that made him wake up screaming and uttering random phrases.

"Um, Sandstone, what are you concentrating on? I don't see anything to look at or do or read," he asked.

"I'm concentrating on finding signs of Seawing or Icewing encampments." Sandstone answered in his 'how can you not know this' voice.

"Fat chance, we're almost half a continent away from the Ice Kingdom and the Seawings would dare come all the way out here. They would have to cross through the Mud Kingdom and Sky Kingdom."

"What about if they took a shortcut through the rainforest? There's nothing there but lazy Rainwings." Sandstone argued.

"No. It's haunted. Some of the Mudwing troops have disappeared into there and one time Barb went in there and she said she heard screaming. She reckons there's a monster in there," he argued.

"No. Monsters are not real." Sandstone replied.

"Ha! Look who's bickering now," remarked Rockhopper then added, "And Addax, Sandstone is right, you need to focus."

"But what are we looking for?" He asked. No sooner had the words left his mouth then a large blue dragon jumped out of the nearby tree. She was quickly followed by two smaller ones.

"That," Sandstone whispered, too scared to move.

Addax tried to be diplomatic and Rockhopper tried to fight back (of course) but it was no use. Eventually they were all captured and brought to the Seawing camp. The captain introduced herself as Dolphin and told them they were now prisoners of war. The Seawing soldiers confiscated all their belongings, and they started off by nightfall. He tried to recall his school days puzzled by how easily they navigated through the darkness without fire. Then it hit him, they could see in the dark! If Sandstone actually could read his mind then he would probably be very aggravated, as he always was when one of them forgot something basic.

Besides their agility and speed in the dark there was something else he was musing over. Why in the world the Seawings went to all the trouble just to capture the three of them. What in Pyrrhia did they need him for? Did they just want his information, or were they trying to get more Sandwings to join Blister's side? Well whatever it was he did certainly DID NOT want to be part of it, but there he was flying towards what he suspected to be his doom.

He was still thinking about it when he spotted the coast. The Seawings seemed to be heading for the beach. Were they stopping to rest? Right now rest sounded wonderful, after flying across a third of the continent his wings ached. They had stopped twice but only for a little while, all the dragons in the patrol seemed in a hurry.

They did, in fact, land. It was then when he noticed just how well he could see despite it being the middle of the night. Although he couldn't see color or detail, that was better than usual. And when he asked Sandstone he got the least specific answer possible.

"Well one of the reasons is Seawings have luminescent scales," Sandstone answered, gazing at the sky.

"And the other is…," he inquired.

"The other, I thought it would be obvious," said Sandstone.

"Well, it's not," Addax snapped. "And I'm sorry if I'm too dumb to understand it."

"Addax! In three days it'll be the brightest night! How can you not know these things?" Sandstone exclaimed.

"Hey, what do you think they want with us?" interrupted Rockhopper.

"I don't know," Addax answered.

The next morning they flew nonstop and arrived at a new island with the sun still high in the sky. An unfamiliar Seawing took them by the wrists, blindfolded them and tied their snouts shut 'just in case'. These Seawings weren't taking any chances.

They dove under water and through a long tunnel filled with breathing holes. They erupted out of the water and their blind folds were taken off. They were in the Seawings palace. Were they going to be brought before the queen?

Eventually they came to a prison where they were removed from their restraints. The prison was different than any he had ever seen before. Instead of cells there were tiny islands surrounded by waterfalls. He was separated from Rockhopper and Sandstone, and put on one of the islands.

What in Pyrrhia were the Seawings thinking? Anyone could just walk through the water! Although most other tribes dislike being wet it was a small price to pay if it meant escape. He was just about to step through the water when a voice said "I wouldn't do that if I were you." He suddenly realized he was not alone on his island. Next to him was a small Mudwing, she blended in perfectly with the soil so at first Addax thought she was a rock.

"Why?" he asked.

"Because,"said the dragon, "The waters filled with electric eels."

"What are those, why are they dangerous? How do you know?"

"Well, have you seen an eel before?" the Mudwing asked.

For a minute Addax was so surprised by her willingness to talk to him that he didn't remember his question. What kind of dragon just randomly started talking to a stranger? Even though the Mudwings weren't his enemy, the dragon couldn't know he was on Burns' side. The Sandwings were on all three sides of the war. He finally came to his senses and answered yes. He had seen a few when he visited Burns tower (which he had vowed to himself to never visit again). And when he was very small (before the war) he had seen some at a banquet when the Seawings had come to the palace to negotiate.

"Well this kind produces a shock like lightning. More than one zap can kill you," she said then added "and as for how I know, experience."

Addax later learned her name was Dragonfly and she was a soldier just like him. She'd been captured months earlier and knew almost everything that was happening with the Seawings (from listening to the guards). It turned out the reason the Seawings were so frantic on the night they brought him was because one of the queen's eggs was missing. They became friends and he wasn't as sad as he expected, except for missing his family.

It had been nearly 4 months since he'd captured him when two guards came and took him away.

"The Queen wants to see you," one said simply. They took him off the island, blindfolded him again and flew him up.

When they arrived in the throne room he immediately noticed the other sand wind in the corner. Then the queen spoke.

"This dragon says you're a spy for Blister's army and went undercover in Burn's Amy. She also says that you passed valuable intel to them," said Queen Coral. "Is this true?"

Immediately Addax became confused. He knew this dragon was lying to get him free. But why? But the temptation was too strong and, regardless of the risks, he told the queen it was true and was escorted out of the palace to a nearby island.

"Hello," said the other Sandwing, "my name is Thorn, I'm the leader of the Outclaws. What's your name?"

"Addax."
