Pangea actually had a very pleasant life.
She had three kind, amazing guardians (who needs parents anyways?), easy access to everything in life she needed, and could even talk to other dragons every so often! Bonus, she was a part of seven different tribes! What could be cooler? She could have lived like that for the rest of her life, and she wouldn't care. Why would she?
The only things she would change were about her, personally. For example, her ugly, murky brown-gray scales that didn't quite fit into any tribe. And maybe even give her some cool powers, as opposed to just having big wings (that also happened to have gorgeous golden wing flaps!). But that was it! Seriously!
Pangea wanted nothing more than to sleep on her favorite rock in the cave near the wonderful plains area that for some reason, no other dragon was able to find. It had flowers and fruit and even squirrels, who could ask for more? The place was amazing and Pangea had loved growing up in it, especially with Belle, Starfinder, and Crystalyne as her guardians.
So why would she expect, or even want, change? Unfortunately, the universe didn't feel like asking Pangea what she wanted. This was what Pangea thought was Mistake #1.
Mistake #2 was listening when Belle, the RainWing (and her personal favorite) guardian, called out in her melodic voice: "Pan! It's time for lunch!"
The ordinariness of this statement was why Pan never expected that something bad was about to happen, which was Mistake #3. Mistake #4 was actually believing that today was an outside day. She had gone into Possibility yesterday, so there was no way she should have been able to go out again.
But Mistake #5 was made as soon as she took an extra step towards the border, and somehow didn't notice that Belle had stopped. She spread her wings, and this not immediately setting off red flags was Mistake #6. Belle had a very large wingspan, which blocked the entire entrance of the cave.
Why is she… doing that? Pan thought to herself. Aren't we going to Possibility?
"Congratulations," Belle hissed in a tone more malicious and hateful than Pan had ever heard Belle use. "We don't need you anymore."
"What do you mean?" Pangea asked, perplexed. Mistake #7 was not realizing the true meaning of what Belle was saying.
"I said," she replied coolly, "That we don't need you. And we certainly don't plan to keep you around for company, so leave or die."
Belle took a menacing step forward as (yellow? No, she can't be happy right now) shot through her scales. Pan had never realized how much her diamond-like patterns resembled a snake, but now, as Belle bared her fangs, the resemblance was closer than ever.
"B-but," Pan blubbered. "You love me! Of course y-you'd keep me around, right?"
"I've hated you and your stupid AllWing thing ever since the moment I saw you hatch." Belle said, with no emotion whatsoever. "They told me, be kind or die. If anything goes wrong with the AllWing, you will be… eliminated. I thought that I couldn't hate you even more than I already did. But I was wrong. Very, very wrong."
"N-no!" she cried, "You can't do this! YOU CAN'T!"
"I'm afraid I can. We don't need you anymore. You're useless. We have another now. So leave, or are you interested in dying?"
Pangea held to the glimmer of hope that the only reason Belle was telling her to leave was so she didn't have to kill her. But deep down, she knew that was all a lie.
Tears were now flowing down Pan's face. Her wings lifted her higher and higher up into the sky. The last thing she saw was Belle's face, moving to shape words, and although she couldn't hear her, Pan still knew exactly what she had said.
"Useless," and, to Pan, the most painful of all: "We don't need you anymore."
