He scanned over the scroll one more time, fully aware of Sandstone watching him from across the room. Wait! The scroll didn't say anything about his egg, er, dragonet. What if she's still alive! Maybe in an orphanage somewhere? What if it's a he? He shook that last thought out of his head and focused on the first two. He could actually have a dragonet that was alive!
Then, he looked over to Sandstone. " The egg!"
"What?" Sandstone asked, clearly confused but then, maybe…. No it couldn't be. It looked as if Sandstone figured out what he was going to say. Like, like maybe he was reading Addax's mind. But that was impossible.
"Me and Roadrunner, remember, we had an egg. The paper says nothing about it! She must still be alive!"
"You shouldn't get your hopes up but, I can help you look through the papers," Sandstone replied.
"Ok," he said. They looked and looked until finally, they found something.
"Look! Over here! A letter from an orphanage!" Sandstone cried.
Addax came over to inspect the letter and as he read it his heart filled with hope and happiness. "Greetings from the Aloe Orphanage," he read out. "You're dragonet, Shamrock, has been in our care for the past six years. She is doing well and is perfectly ok. Since we now know that you are alive and not a traitor, would you like for her to live with you? If you would, please come to the orphanage in 6 days time to make her being your daughter official. Sincerely, Ceja and Talon, the orphanage caretakers." He couldn't believe it! He had a daughter and she was alive and perfectly ok!
The next six days passed very slowly with him waiting anxiously for it to be time for him to meet his daughter. In the meantime, he was slowly settling back into life as a soldier. He still remembered everything he was taught, but had a lot to learn about what was going on in the world. Though he knew a lot, the Scorpion Den was not completely up to speed on the news.
The basic gist of it seemed to be that none of the three sisters seemed close to winning, the Dragonets of Destiny were out and about and had already met all the queens. No one knew where they were but they had managed to injure Queen Scarlet enough that Burn had to bring her to the stronghold. And they had also been in the Sea Kingdom and figured out who was killing all the Queen's heirs. He knew that Sunny was one of them and he had brought her in but had no idea how loyal Thorn was to her. This shock came three days after the letter had arrived. The Outclaws had arrived, killed General Sandstorm, and took Sunny back.
Now he was standing in front of Aloe Orphanage nervous and happy.
The caretaker opened the door and out stepped a small Sandwing dragonet.
"Hi," she said quietly, "You're my dad, aren't you? I'm Shamrock."
