Kaeya continued along the longer than usual patrol route that he could have assigned to someone under but had decided not to. Not because he needed to walk far past Springvale himself. He also didn't need to adjust the route to include the cliffside overlooking Dawn Winery. He just spotted a flame flower and wanted to collect it. Because, why not? And also Klee would like it. Diluc was more than capable of handling whatever stray mob might wander into the area, and often did. His people were also trained to handle the stray hilichurl or slime that meandered onto the winery's domain. While his assistance was likely unneeded, he did admit curiosity at the unusual haze that hung in the air and little bit of concern at the burning smell that lingered.
Only because Kaeya had been privy to at least some of the antics Diluc had recently performed in efforts to keep his Darknight Hero persona a secret was he more amused than concerned at the unnatural number of slimes overrunning the outskirts of the property. Diluc stood, flaming greatsword in hand, surrounded by clusters of the elemental beings. Big, small, purple, orange, green, blue… every type of slime he had ever seen, and in a much larger quantity than he had seen together, surrounded the wine tycoon.
Below, Diluc sent a flaming phoenix through the hoard, instantly vaporizing several, melting the cryo helmets of larger slimes, and setting aflame a couple dendro slimes. He followed up the attack with several more, smaller but still flame filled, crushing geo slimes, popping anemo, and causing a small overload explosion with an electro slime.
Kaeya chuckled in amusement, watching his brother battle the innocuous enemies. The fight continued for quite some time, Kaeya deciding to settle on a nearby rock to watch the show. Every time Diluc seemed to make progress in eliminating the elemental nuisances, more of them would hop in.
Finally, after about an hour of fighting, Diluc stood nearly victorious but faced a unique problem. He was completely surrounded in pyro slimes.
Kaeya let out a laugh as his brother stood in the midst of his unlikely captors, looking a bit lost. For someone who used pyro so freely, this was actually a bit of a problem as pyro slimes were completely immune to their own elemental type. Diluc could, of course, use his sword like any other non-vision holder would have to, but pyro slimes had a nasty habit of exploding when nearly defeated. This could, in turn, lead to a chain reaction of explosions. Not something one would want to be caught in the middle of. Even as a pyro allogene, Diluc was not immune to the flames he wielded. It really was an unfortunate situation to be stuck in the middle of.
Eventually, he could work his way to the outside of the group, or call for Elzer to bring buckets of water, but Kaeya decided now was as good a time as any for him to make an appearance. He jumped and descended the rocky ledge with his wind glider, quickly folding it back in as he landed just beyond the crowd of slimes.
"Freeze!" He used a burst of cryo that would, at least temporarily, temper the flames of the pyro slimes. A hydro application would have been preferred, but cryo was what he had, and at least now the elemental monsters wouldn't blow up in his face.
A few minutes and several bursts of cryo later, the last of the slimes were defeated.
"I have come to rescue you from your captivity," Kaeya announced gallantly.
He was met with a disgruntled scowl.
"Finally. I thought I was going to have to throw a few cryo slimes up at you before you would stop laughing and do your job, Sir Kaeya."
"Is that any way to talk to your savior?" Kaeya asked, mock offended.
"I was the one who had to save you from drowning under the ice of the cryo slimes before," Diluc argued. "I did so without a vision or knight training."
"But you got a vision for that!" Kaeya rebutted. "I was the one who nearly died." He instantly regretted his phrasing, unsure if he was referring to his near drowning or receiving his own vision, and swiftly shifted the subject. "What caused all …" he gestured vaguely to the area now void of all traces of battle save some burnt grass, "...that?"
"I was testing a new batch of elemental bait… and dropped the bottle…" Diluc added disjointedly.
The abrupt shift in demeanor told Kaeya there was more to that story, but his brother didn't seem inclined to share, and he wasn't going to push it today.
"Well, I suppose I should be off then," Kaeya dismissed himself. "I think I might actually enjoy recounting this incident report to Jean."
