AN at the end but it's kinda sad so don't read if you don't want your mood ruined. I wasn't going to write anything but my OCD says I have to write for Valentine's Day since I have every year. I haven't decided if this is a one shot or if this will be a series of proposal stories. I'm not sure yet.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I do not own.

Rex glanced around the room and grinned. He out did himself this year. He stood with his hands firmly planted on his hips. Yup, there's no way Circe wouldn't be impressed. He surveyed the room. It was mood lighting. Candles were lit around the room. Flower petals lined the floor. In the center was a table with white tablecloth and a centerpiece of flowers and candles. In the corner a 4 piece string orchestra played classy music, at least it sounded classy to him.

Rex was about to run his hand through his hair before he realized that it would ruin his perfectly coiffed hair. It took him forever and several bottles of gel to get the stupid cowlick to stay down. He looked down at his suit. It fit nicely unlike the suits he use to borrow from Six. Well, everything was set. Now all he needed to do was wait for the guest of honor.

"Hey chief," Bobo interrupted his thoughts. "Whoa, looks so swanky in here."

"Not now Bobo." Rex shooed his sidekick towards the door. "Circe will be here any minute."

"What? Are you proposing to her?" Bobo chuckled. When he caught a glimpse of Rex's face, he paused. "Wait? You are?"

"Yeah, what if I am?" Rex asked defensively.

"Really?"

"Why do you sound so surprised?"

"Well," Bobo scratched his cheek thoughtfully. "For one thing, you're too young."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Rex looked at him.

"You got plenty of time to be free and not tied down to a ball and chain." Bobo shrugged.

"Circe's not like that." Rex protested.

"Oh yeah, so you think she'll let you hang out with the boys till the next morning? How about those midnight taco runs? Playing video games until your eyeballs fall out?" Bobo listed things on his fingers.

"Uhhh," Rex couldn't think of a clever comeback.

"Well, it's your life, chief. Personally, I'll stay a bachelor for the rest of my life. Have fun." He sauntered out.

Rex was feeling less confident now. Once he popped the question to Circe, he couldn't just do whatever he wanted anymore. Maybe he should think this through a little more. He checked the clock again. It had gotten later than he thought. Where was Circe?

Just as he finished that thought his phone rang. Jumping, he pulled it out of his pocket.

"Hello?"

"Oh Rex! Thank goodness I reached you." It was Beverly. She sounded scared.

"What? What's wrong?" Rex felt his chest tighten.

"First don't panic." Her saying that made him panic more.

"What! What happened?" Rex demanded to know.

"Circe's in the emergency wing of Providence…"

That was all Rex heard. The next thing he knew he was running out of the restaurant and into the street. Forming his Rex Ride, he recklessly tore down the street back to base.

"Ack, he didn't let me finish." Beverly looked at her phone with consternation.

"That's Rex for you." Circe said weakly.

"You ok? How are you feeling?" Beverly looked at her friend.

"Oh, I've been better." She winced as she shifted her weight in the bed.

"Those pain meds should be kicking in soon." Beverly patted her friend gently on her shoulder.

"Yeah, I am feeling a little out of it." Circe agreed.

"I can't believe you jumped in front of that out-of-control bus. You're not Rex!" Beverly chided her.

"She's not Rex but he's certainly rubbed off on her." Dr. Holiday stepped into the space.

"Hey sis," Beverly hugged her sister. "Is everything ok?"

"Yes, the mother and child will be fine, thanks to you Circe." She smiled at the young patient.

"That's good." Circe sighed in relief. " I was worried that I pushed them too hard out of the way."

The door suddenly fell over as Rex rode in on his motorcycle.

"How is she?" He yelled frantically as his build rescinded.

"Stop yelling. I'm right here." Circe said irritably.

"Rex Salazar, how many times do I have to tell you not to ride your bike indoors." Dr. Holiday admonished him.

"Yeah, yeah, sorry Doc. Circe, what happened?" Rex went to his girlfriend's side.

"Well, if you had let me finish…" Beverly huffed. "You'd know. But Circe's a hero."

Rex turned to look at Circe.

Circe shrugged nonchalantly. "I did what I had to."

"Anyway, we'll leave you two to talk." Holiday linked arms with her younger sister and lead her firmly away.

"Hey, I wanted to stay with Circe." Beverly protested as her sister dragged her away.

When they were gone, Rex took Circe's hand. "Hey, you ok?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. The bus didn't even tap me that hard."

"Bus?" Rex's voice went up an octave.

"Rex, relax. I'm fine. The medicine's just making me sleepy." She yawned. "Oh, I'm sorry I ruined tonight's date."

"Hey, don't worry about it. There'll be other dates." Rex leaned in and kissed her forehead. "As long as you don't get isekai-ed by bus-kun so fast.

"Stop with the geek talk." Circe grumbled but her eyes were amused.

"How cliché would it be if you got offed by a public transport vehicle." Rex joked. "Especially right when I'm about to…" He stopped.

"About to what?" Circe looked at him curiously.

Rex wordlessly went into his pocket and pulled out a velvet box.

Circe's mouth went dry. She looked at Rex with confusion.

"I guess the good thing is you can't run away now." He quipped nervously.

"Rex?" It was still not registering in her brain.

Rex knelt but then got back up. "Ack, that's no good. You can't see me from down there. Here, wait a minute. He pulled a chair to the side and tried to kneel on it."

"Rex, what are you doing? You look ridiculous." Circe looked around nervously to make sure no one was around.

"Hang on, I gotta do this right." He struggled to look dignified on that small chair. "I almost got it… woah!" Rex hell over on the side.

Circe couldn't help it. She laughed. "Rex, stop. Are you trying to end up in the hospital with me?"

"If that's what you want."

"No, that's not what I want. Now stop being silly and tell me what you're doing." Circe said firmly.

Rex sighed. "I was hoping that it would be more romantic." He opened the box. A silver band with red stones sparkled under the fluorescent light.

Circe gawked at Rex. "Is that… is that a…?"

Rex nodded. "Hey Circe, wanna get married?"

Circe couldn't speak for a moment. She looked to see if Rex was joking but his face was serious and nervous.

"Um Circe… I'm kinda sorta getting nervous here." Rex muttered.

Circe nodded.

Rex looked at her. "I don't know what that means."

Circe nodded again. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out. She swallowed and tried to say something. Nothing came out.

"So is that a yes? No? Maybe?" Rex fidgeted with the box.

Circe made a sound.

"Uh, I didn't get that." Rex leaned in closer. "What did you say?"

Circe wrapped her arms around Rex's neck and pulled him down. She squeezed him tight and kissed the side of his head.

"I'm going to guess that's a yes." Rex said with muffled voice.

Circe nodded. "I love you."

Rex grinned as he pulled back to look her in the face. "I love you too. Can I put this on your finger?"

Circe stuck out her finger and Rex slipped it on.

"Perfect." Circe raised her hand to the light.

"Just like my girl." He smiled.

Circe looked back at Rex and smiled back. They leaned in and kissed.

He had it all wrong. He wasn't trading in his freedom. He was choosing to spend his life being with the one he loved. Besides they can made midnight taco runs together now.

So if you read my profile, you know that my mom passed away unexpectedly on Chinese New Year. I mean she was old but she was getting better. In fact, the doctors were going to discharge her. And then around 4 in the morning they called to tell us her heart just stopped. My mom is an amazing woman. Not perfect in the least but she managed to face so much adversity in her life and overcome them. I can't believe she's gone. To make it worse, my dad has dementia so he keeps asking where she is. It's been tough and it's going to be tough for a while. I will finish my stories and I am planning on writing a few other things requested by some of you. But I'll have to ask for patience since I don't know when I'll start. I just can't seem to get the motivation to write these days. Anyway, sorry for the bummer ending here. God bless.
