'Not all Men are created equal', that's what I learned at age four. Everyone else in my class had their quirks come in and all I could do was wait and hope.
Izuku was sitting on top of the roof trembling. He had decided in his fan-induced dazed state that clinging onto a jumping All Might was a clever idea.
"What was the meaning of that my boy, I'm all for meeting fans but that was dangerous!" boomed the imposing voice of the Number One Hero
"I-I had a q-question for you," Izuku asked meekly.
"Is it possible to become a hero without a quirk?"
"Is it possible to become a hero without a quirk?" All Might pondered.
"No... No, I don't think it is, there are just some villains who are simply too powerful to beat without a special power of your own. I'm sorry kid"
And that was when the floodgates opened. Tears started to pour out of Izuku's eyes with every single thought of people calling him 'worthless' and 'Deku' coming back to him. He did the only thing he'd ever been able to do, he ran away as hard as he could, dreams in tatters.
"I'm sorry, I don't want to push you down a path that will lead to your death" Toshinori whispered finally able to relax and power down now nobody could see.
"I'd best get you to the station," he said patting his cargo trousers.
"Shit"
Izuku heard the largest explosion he ever had, he turned on his heel and instantly ran towards the sound. There was a crowd gathered around the site.
"Ohnoohnoohno, that villain!... it's the one All Might caught. I must've knocked it out his pocket when I jumped onto him" Izuku thought to himself
"Wait... is that? Kaachan?"
Some of those in the crowd were starting to whisper among themselves, "Why aren't the heroes doing anything? Why are they just watching this kid get killed?"
Toshinori rounded the corner himself in disbelief at what he was seeing. A middle schooler was fighting for his life, while the professionals stood idly by.
WHOOOOSH
He saw a streak of green sprint by him, the kid vaulted the barrier and ran straight towards the humungous villain.
"YOU AGAIN! I'LL FLATTEN YOU THIS TIME!" screamed the sludge monster ripping up a lamppost and launching it at the green streak.
He slid across the floor tearing his school uniform on the concrete as he dodged the incoming object, as he stood he span and ripped off his backpack to return fire at the villain.
"KID, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" came the worried shouts from Death Arms and the recent debutant Kamui Woods.
The bag was thrown with pinpoint accuracy or if you asked Izuku himself it was pure luck and it flew straight into the sludge monster's eye causing him to slightly release his hold on Bakugo. A huge explosion came from inside the villain and Bakugo's face was revealed.
"Deku? The hell are you doing you shitty nerd?" came Bakugo's enraged voice.
"I couldn't just stand there and watch you die, Kaachan!" Izuku responded without his usual stutter.
"Right where I want you" laughed the villain. He raised his arm and brought it down... hard.
Izuku thought to himself, 'well at least if I'm dying, I tried to be a hero'.
As that thought crossed his mind, a huge sonic boom rippled across the air accompanied by a flash of gold.
"NOT TODAY VILLAIN. DO YOU KNOW WHY? BECAUSE I AM HERE!"
Izuku looked up and the huge figure of All Might stood over him, holding back the punch with one hand of his own. He looked down at the greenette.
"That was a very foolish thing to do you know, especially after what you asked me, but you also inspired me. You showed me I WASN'T LIVING UP TO MY OWN IDEALS"
All Might drew back his right arm, allowing the awesome power of One For All to course through his body.
"DETROOOOIT SMAAAAAASHHHH" bellowed the Symbol of Peace destroying the bonds that held the sludge villain together.
A tornado formed off the back of the massive punch. Mt. Lady was sheltering the civilians from the galeforce winds whipping all over the place. The Fire Hydrant Hero, Backdraft, stopped fighting the fires, as the force from All Might's Smash killed them dead.
After ensuring that both children were safe All Might blasted off into the sky with Izuku wondering if he'd ever see him again, completely blanked from the lectures he was getting off the pros.
That was 10 months ago
Izuku had been approached very soon after by the Symbol of Peace about becoming his successor, which he accepted wholeheartedly. 'I'm gonna have a quirk!' he thought 'and not just that, ALL MIGHT'S QUIRK'
That had begun his training. All Might had taken him to a ruined part of Dagobah Beach and told him to clear it up before the UA entrance exam, which was to take place in 12 months' time.
"Phhew" Izuku sighed heaving the last piece of trash into the dumpster.
"That took me less time than I thought" he mused.
Over the past 10 months, he had honed his body, muscles protruding where before there were none. His arms bulged in his clothes, Izuku was particularly proud of these as he often found himself posing like All Might in the mirror with his new muscles.
"Wow Young Midoriya! I'm impressed" voiced Toshinori "You've surpassed my expectation by a whole two months! I think you're finally ready to inherit my power"
"A-are you s-sure I'm the right one to have it?" questioned Izuku "S-surely t-there are more q-qualified people?"
"Young Midoriya, look at all the hard work you've put in! And maybe there are people better trained to inherit my quirk, but none of them have your heart. The heart of a hero" Toshinori said, starting to steam.
"Besides, who else would jump in front of a huge villain to save a classmate from certain death? Even when the pros aren't able to help" boomed the voice of Toshinori now transformed into All Might.
"I s-suppose" he meekly replied.
"Now. EAT THIS"
2 months later at the UA entrance exam
Izuku was ready, he had been trained by All Might, the number one hero for god sake. So why was he so nervous?
'I don't know if I can do this' he thought 'No. I have to, All Might put his faith in me and I have to repay him.' Midoriya's game face descended. All Might always said once he got into the groove he completely changed and became a 'monster'. Izuku of course didn't believe this
"GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" came a quirk-enhanced Present Mic scream
With that Izuku bolted at his maximum percentage of One for All, 15%.
Entering the compound he was immediately greeted by 4, 3 pointers.
"SMAAASH" bellowed Izuku obliterating the robots in front of him.
Moving on from the trail of destruction left in his wake Izuku was starting to move more freely, he was using his empowered legs to bounce off walls and buildings while delivering smashes to multiple robots along the way.
Grinning from ear to ear, Izuku thought 'I could get used to this'
In the teacher's lounge
"What do you think of this year's crop sir?" Vlad King posed to Nezu
"Hmm, they look interesting, certainly a few standouts! But there are definitely those we can guide to becoming great heroes" came the energetic reply from the rat?
"Ooooh, I like that one" purred Midnight pointing towards Izuku "So Powerful, I LOOVE a strong man" winking at Toshinori, who she knows to be All Might.
Rolling his eyes he responded "Midoriya certainly seems to be doing well, though that look on his face I haven't seen since Miruko. He looks like he enjoys the fight"
"Illogical, fights are supposed to be won as fast as possible, not enjoyed" coming from Aizawa, who was wrapped up in his sleeping bag, looking like some kind of exhausted slug.
"Let's test that battle lust then" grinned Nezu slamming his paw down on the red button in front of him to release the zero pointer.
A huge rumbling started across the grounds of the examination centre, with buildings all around the participants crumbling. Izuku fell on his behind while looking up at the abomination in front of him.
'That kid, he looks terrified, however, the exam states the zero pointer is a distraction' thought an engined power sprinter as he ran by Izuku
"HEELLPPP"
'Oh shit, what do I do?' 'That's the girl that stopped me from falling, I can't leave her here' Izuku thinks to himself
'I HAVE TO SAVE HER'
Forcing himself to rise to his feet, Izuku channels One For All across his entire body, he pushes his maximum limit from 15% up to 20%. His bones are vibrating and his muscles screaming.
'I can do this, this might hurt but it's manageable'
Taking off towards the monstrosity he crouches, forcing all that power into his legs feeling the muscles strain with the increased power. In a blur for him, but a streak of ozone-tinged lightning for all the onlookers, Izuku appeared in front of the zero pointer. Tensing the muscles of his right arm and cocking it back he could hear All Might in his head
"Clench your butt cheeks kid and yell this from the depths of your heart! SMAAAAAASHHHH"
Izuku screamed as he poured everything he could into that punch, forgetting to hold at 20% he unconsciously put all 100% into the smash.
The head of the robot flew off into the distance, crumpled and mangled. Its body started to implode and fall back on itself. Looking at his arm he realised he'd gone overboard. It was completely purple and flapping in the wind as he fell.
His last thoughts as he plummeted from the sky were 'At least I saved her'. Izuku blacked out.
When he awoke, he was in a sterile room, only white and devoid of personality.
"I must be in the hospital" Izuku muttered to himself
"You're lucky you aren't dead" came an angry voice from behind a curtain
Recovery Girl stepped past the curtain to assess her patient.
"I have NEVER seen a quirk do that much damage to the user's own body before. What did you do?" she said angrily
Just as Izuku was about to reply the door flew open.
"I AM HERE! Like a hero" shouted All Might
"I should've known you'd be involved..." complained Recovery Girl "I take it he's your successor then?"
Izuku froze, what was he supposed to say? He couldn't reveal the secrets of One For All, of All Might's power!
"You are exactly right," said the now much smaller All Might with the trails of steam disappearing
"Toshinori, why didn't you tell me earlier?"
"I was going to! Promise, I just got... kinda busy"
"OW, OW, STOP THAT" moaned the Symbol of Peace as Recovery Girl beat him over the head with her stick, causing Izuku to laugh at his predecessor's misfortune
"If you're healthy enough to laugh I can include you boy" came the angry voice of the nurse
"Sorry Ma'am" Izuku replied scratching the back of his head "I'll get going now"
"Young Midoriya wait" said Toshinori "Are you sure you're okay? You broke your arm in so many places. I do have to say though, it was a great Smash!"
"Yes Sir, I'm fine... errr Sir, you might want to duck" commented Izuku as he saw the raised stick of Recovery Girl behind the man for praising his injury.
Pivoting very quickly Izuku ran out the door and all the way home beaming like a madman as he ran. HE HAD A QUIRK AND HE WAS SURE HE'D GOTTEN INTO UA!
